Simply superb
Voleti was not given proper recognition in Chennai. No other vocalist has such a majestic and sweet voice. He was brilliant in all the departments of Carnatic music. Music academy failed to confer Sangeeta Kalanidi to Voleti and conferring the title to some most undeserving people.

yes! This year Aruna Sairam was awarded the same. I wonder what's her rank among the great musicians alive today to get Sangeeta Kalanidhi . She even sang a kriti that was plagiarized from Thyagaraya's into Jesus's name.

After all Madras Music Academy is nothing more than just a bunch of politicised community with its own interests. Many deserving artists were left out of the award.
That's how Music Academy is run.... The biggest politician amongst Carnatic Music was Shree Semmangudi Srinivasa Iyer whose diction was atrocious, never had a voice and to overcome that he indulged in meaningless politics. He was not willing to accept The great Chowdaiya ..Today's classical music is nothing but joke. The only thing matters to these people is money and show business.
What a rendering. Majestic, unique and mesmerising. He will remain in history as a great musician.
We need to popularise his rendering among the youngsters. They must listen to him.
48 years ago, Voletti was teaching Carnatic music everyday through All India Radio and my sisters listened and learned several krithis like that. They used to sing those songs on Festival days and get lots of appreciation from listeners. Voleti's singing and teaching was so perfectly chiseled that even without direct contact, my sisters could pick up quite a lot, even though they had no formal music training earlier.
In fact, some of the songs, for example "Ra Ra Rajeeva Lochana Rama.." in Mohanam, had such a perfection in rendering and teaching by Voleti that I had never heard such a typical way of rendering with all the beauties of Mohana Raga sancharas intact in any other singer's rendition. It was so soaked in tradition as well as uniqueness. My sisters' favorite song was that and they too used to sing the song so well.

It's pure nectar. Excellent voice full of sweetness making the raaga still more authentic. So much he has offered to classical singing it's unparalleled. Listeners will be transcended to another world by sheer listening to this great musician. He keeps it simple by his effortless singing style. Thanks for the upload.
Fantastic performance. Music academy has its own funny ways to decide on Sangeeta Kalanidhi volatile is real stalwart and with Lalgudi and Sankaran or UKS or Karaikkudi Mani as accompanists used to be a great treat. I have a feeling MA has a way of ignoring legends. Even Lalgudi was not given this award! Even now Karaikudi Mani sir is not conferred. Very sad state.
Music Academy is a bunch of self seekers indulging in politics in the name of music. Today's Carnatic music is a pathetic joke.
Music Academy has recognized some of the legends in Karnatik music. Now that doesn’t mean whoever that are not recognized are not legends. There were so many great musicians that were never recognized or recognition came very late. Same case with the Padma awards. And we all know these panels have people with prejudice and try to favor certain people. Especially MA has not recognized many Telugu legends for the reasons known to them.

Doubt if these days any karnatic vocalists can give such a wonderful and thought provoking performance surely not. It's unfortunate that the traditional art has not been preserved. A great Vidwan greatly blessed by Goddess Saraswathi and Lord Parameswaran. No doubt. My eyes started building with tears.
what a resonating voice and perfection in rendering begada,that is Voleti style,we had only one musician of his stature and miss him very much.

this rendering is from Shanmukhananda sabha Bombay. My guess is that violinist is the great MSG. There is no better swara kalpana for begada than this. what a musician!!
