I almost choked on my water when you asked if there was any more music of hers you could listen to. You have no idea how deep the rabbit hole of Bonnie Raitt is. She has been performing for over 50 years and just won a Grammy for song of the year for 2023! Besides having a marvelous voice she is probably the best blues slide guitar player alive today. She is an absolute American Treasure! You could literally spend years listening to her music! Incidentaskly she is the real deal, no autone or pitch correction nonsense!
What amazes me is that a music lover, one who is supposedly in a position of authority to "comment" on musicians, has never heard of Bonnie Raitt or listened to her music. She is one class act and a favorite of mine for many decades.
if you have a real broken heart. don't get drunk and listen to this song it will reck you. I know. bless Bonnie's heart and I don't mean that in a southern manner.
5 years on and stone cold sober- and here I am ugly crying in my car and feels like my heart got ripped out my chest all over again... đđ
Too many times. đ
This is how to not oversing a song. Simple , emotional voice.
She rocks with "Something to Talk About"! You will be dancing in your seat!
She is the OG artist, she did the original vocals in one take. The emotion in that recording still breaks my heart.
She said she couldnât do another take, she didnât have the emotional energy. I canât sing it, I cry every time
My favorite Bonnie Raitt song and I have truly experienced her lyrics and the somberness of her voice. Been there done that and Bonnie must have also sometime in her life.
The production on the original album is legendary.
YES đđœ. True that! I couldnât get enough of the raw heart in this song and the gorgeous quality of her voice, even as a kid when I first heard this â€
Sheâs also a world class blues and slide guitarist. This is Bonnieâs song, yes.
She speaks to my soul!! âđ»đđâŁïž
And she plays with everybody. The Keb Mo No getting over you is straight up fun.
IIRC she's one of the short list to make Rolling Stone's all-time Top 100 lists as both vocalist and guitarist...
Yep!
She didn't write the song, however. I remember hearing this song first in the early 90s.
Bonnie is loved. She couldn't sing a bad song if she tried. I go waaay back with her. "Guilty" is a classic.
You might give her Angel from Montgomery a listen.
Yes! Or just the original John Prine. But I really love them singing it together.
Yessss
You took the words right out of my mouth! I love John Prine, but Bonnie's cover of this song is my fave!
Because EVERYONE HAS COVERED IT.
But, it will always be Bonnie's song. She's the original. Such a clear, plaintive voice.
Badass slide guitar player.
THE GOAT Slide guitar player.
Yes, this is a great song, but doesn't begin to show what this lady can do!
This is what you call a performance, not a show. We are here for the talent, not the antics. Not many artists around like this anymore.
Bonnie Raitt has won 10 Grannyâs so you might be able to find another song. Her father John Raitt was also a famous musician. Her most famous is âAngel from Montgomery â.
Havenât seen this live performance. True singers can give you a goosebump performance with their voice. She is a true singer and talented musician.
Bonnie Raitt is one of the most emotion provoking artists I can ever remember hearing. Sheâs the queen of what she does, and man can she play slide guitar!!!
Yes, she IS the original... and has the best version...in my opinion.
Sheâs a legend. She cannot sing a wrong note.
Teddy does a great job, brings his own heart and soul into the song. They both can evoke so much emotion.
Bonnie is a super star blues singer, slide guitar player, has played and sung with legends like BB King, John lee hooker. Absolutely thrilled with your reaction. "Let's Give 'Em Something To Talk About" is great, a sample of her guitar expertise in "A Thing Called Love". Thank You so much for this Bonnie Raitt treat! Looking forward to your reactions to more of her songs.
đŻ
She is a Country Legend with Emmy Lou Harris, Reba McIntyre. Sang backup for Roy Orbison.
This is actually my favorite of hers.
Ive been singing her "in the mood" with John Lee Hooker in the shower since I was 13!
A Bonnie classic. I've heard her sing this 100 different ways and she never fails. She is amazing. There's a reason Teddy covered her. One of the best female voices there is. Bonnie is legendary.
Yes. She can sing it 100 different ways because she is singing her story not just some lyrics.
"Clean vibrato"- yes, I'm with you on that. Her delivery never overpowers the story or the song.
Bonnie is the original singer....
Been in love with her for 40 years. Her father is John Rait a famous Broadway Musical star.
Great voice! Always loved hearing him!
Yes, John Raitt was such a beautiful singer in the films. The apple doesnât fall far⊠czcams.com/video/CkwXDgwwpsE/video.html
Ditto. Sheâs one of my top two faves. She is amazing in concert.
Me too. My Sister and her boyfriend introduced me to Bonnie Raitt more than 40 years ago. She is awesome.
Bonnie Raitt IS meant to do this exact thing. She's so talented on guitar and her voice is perfectly suited for blues. Please more Bonnie! I specifically want more of this specific content. đ
You nailed MrLboyd very well lol
Bonnie didnât write the song. But man! I canât believe that you never heard of her. She is an American treasure.
Yeah, she's the original. When you say this version is less dressed, I'm sure you mean what most call less produced. You're absolutely right with Bonnie. She's the kind of artist who is, in my opinion, best listened to totally raw and live. She can just sit there, alone, with an acoustic guitar and nothing else and be fabulous. She won a Grammy for this song. She's actually won 15 of them, including one tonight for song of the year.
She also won a Grammy for her duet with 70 year old blues singer John Lee Hooker I'm In the Mood.
I love her voice so much. Something to Talk About was my favorite.
me too! i put that on a mixtape (along with songs from meatloaf, the dazz band, and some others i cant recall) that i made for a boy when i was 9 or 10yrs old (circa 1992). lol i was a bit of a different kid.
She did this without running tracks in her live mix, with no auto tune, just a real voice and real band. Why did we get away from this?
I have listened to this song since it came out, by Bonnie. Still makes me cry, 30 years later
I think your comparison to the Swims version was very apt. I would say that Teddy Swims version was like a cry of pain, but her version is just deeply, deeply sad--heartbroken, beyond crying, to the point of sheer emotional exhaustion. Hearing it almost brought tears to my eyes, and I knew this song decades ago when it first came out. The smoothness, the richness of her voice, the long tones, amazing breath control, almost seem to create a calm background against which her despair crashes quietly, but powerfully. This album came out right during the break-up of my first marriage, and it was on all the time. Nick of Time is the name of the album, and there isn't a bad cut on it.
Anything Bonnie Raitt sings will touch you like no other. She just has IT!!!
Bonnie can melt your heart with that voice and pathos. Such an authentic soul. She feels the power. She has the power. What a wonderfully strong woman.
Love this song, she isnât the writer, but the original artist. Yes. What a voice.
I love this song, but it always makes me cry. Another one of her songs that I love is "Feels Like Home to Me".
Love them both
Just FYI I was looking to download her Feels Like Home and stumbled upon a cover of it by the jazz singer Diana Krall and Bryan Adams. Itâs very pretty! I remember they played her version in the movie âMichaelâ with John Travolta.
My same feelings !
I was in a relationship that made me feel just like this song...i would cry everytime i listened and sang along with her...when it ended it was my life story in a song..how she sings with so much hart and sole without crying speaks to how great and wonderfull a artist she is...my top most fav. singer of all time. Forever Bonni
The most heartbreaking song ever written. As many times as I have listened to it, I cry every time. And no one sings it better than Bonnie Raitt.
Thanks for reacting to Bonnie Raitt. Angel of Montgomery, Love Me Like a Man, I Feel The Same, Feels Like Home to me, Something to talk about...so many choices
Oh yeah, I also suggest that you listen to Love Me Like a Man
I've been a fan of Bonnie Raitt's since the 70s. She has a huge catalog of great songs. She finally was awarded Grammy awards for her album Nick Of Time and this song. Yes, she is the original artist.
Yes Sir, This is her song. Her voice is so so rich, smooth, velvety. She plays guitar with a beautiful power.
Bonnie Raitt is a truly great lady with a heartfelt and beautiful voice. She also walked the walk and is co-founder of the Blues Foundation, which has helped many artists get their deserved royalties and helped many other artists in tangible ways when no one else cared about their cause. She is the real deal. My highest respect for her.
The original studio version features a gorgeous piano accompaniment by Bruce Hornsby (who, if you're not yet familiar with him and his group, Bruce Hornsby and The Range, you should check them out). Hornsby is one of those musicians who has a very identifiable style and sound, and his contribution to the original record was significant, adding to the general feeling of heartbreak and resignation in the song. Of course, Bonnie's amazing vocal is the key factor, but Hornsby's playing deepens the effect.
Bruce Hornsby âŠthatâs who it was in the silky 80s pantsâŠ.saw him as the final show at the Syria Mosque in Pittsburgh. Couldnât think of his nameâŠ.thank you.
Her version of John Prine's Angel from Montgomery is one of, if not the epitome of Bonnie's classic (late 70s early 80s) period. This one being the same for the early '90s period. For a more upbeat song, "Let's Give Them Something to Talk About" also from the same album and also good.
Bonnie Raitt is very underrated, I honestly donât know why she was never more popular than she is.
This song belongs to Miss Bunny, she is a song writer also....beautiful
Do yourself a favor & listen to the studio version of this song. It's been making me cry every time I hear it for 30 years. Bonnie sings just like she plays guitar - sliding beautifully from one note to the next.
"I Can't Make You Love Me" is a song written by Mike Reid and Allen Shamblin and recorded by American singer Bonnie Raitt for her eleventh studio album. She is the original artist and she is AMAZING as a singer and guitarist. Here name is pronounced "Rate"
Yes she was the first original singer yes yes yes! I have followed her since early in her career and she's a brilliant artist. No auto-tune, no waving her hands around, she can just stand there and sing like that
She is a singular performer. One of the best of her generation.
Sheâs a siren, impeccable voice and deep, deep soulful lyrics. Iâve listened to her for 35+ years. Sheâs rooted in the blues, sang with Sippy Wallace and others. Sheâs the Dolly Pardon of soul. (This is not her original version, that was sang in the 90âs) I have her on vinyl!
Sir Iâm constantly blown away by how many outstanding artists you havenât been exposed to. Iâm very curious about the artists you DID listen to?
She is the daughter of John Raitt a Broadway singer/actor, I remember him in the original play Oklahoma. She started singing with the old black blues singers when she was a young teenager. I love her voice and music. I saw her perform this in concert with thousands of fans, you could have heard a pin drop because everyone was focused on her performance. I see her everytime she comes to town.
This obviously comes from a real place for Bonnie. Thatâs one of the reasons it works so well. Sincerity is the key.
Bonnie has been doing this for nearly 50 years. Folk, blues, rock, she made a "comeback' with this release. BUT those of us who have listened to her for so long never saw her leave. A fine woman who helped women of my generation be strong and bold.
Well said
One of the most beautiful songs ever written, they both did beautifully
Bonnie who has a long and distinguished career as a musician and singer followed in her Father's (John Raitt) footsteps whose career was that of a singer in musical theater. I saw Bonnie perform at the Ann Arbor Blues and Jazz Festival in 1970 or 71, anyways, when we were both quite young.
Saw her live this year after a lifetime of loving her. She is INCREDIBLE and has such a strong voice, even now.
Magnificent, warm, expressive voice. Bonnie Raitt is serious quality. Listen to Dimming of the Day. Live versions will be great.
Bonnie is an amazingly under rated artist. Her vocals are incredible and one of the best slide guitar player ever. A pure great blues player.
She has the most perfect texture in her voice. Should check out her cover of "angel from Montgomery" or a newer one called "Gypsy in me". I'm 33 and to this day she is my celebrity crush.
50 years of music by Bonnie
Can't Make You Love Me" is a song written by Mike Reid and Allen Shamblin and recorded by American singer Bonnie Raitt for her eleventh studio album, Luck of the Draw (1991).
Bonnie Raitt is on constant rotation on my playlists. Her voice is bewitching, unique and mesmerizing. I hope you'll listen to her "Nick of Time" album. Its a masterpiece.
A absolutely fine mix of styles! There's no one like Bonnie. â€
This is one of the most beautiful songs that I've ever heard. Not only because of the melody and way she sings it but because of the meaning behind it. There are not many pains in life that can compare to the pain of being in love with someone that does not love you. As the song implies, there is nothing , nothing, nothing that you can do about it...and it really hurts when you actually realize it.
Raitt has received 10 Grammy Awards. She since 1971 she has sung with icons. Pretty much anything she touches is golden. "Nick of Time" album got to #1 in the US in 1990. She is a 'quiet' activist in everything from clean energy and anti-apartheid to Farm Aid and Amnesty International.
How can you have not heard Bonnie Raitt she's incredible on the slide guitar. She played a lot with BB King and other Blues artist, John Prine, Junior Wells, Buddy Guy, Eric Clapton. Rock and Roll Hall of Famer and Grammy winner. I love Angel From Montgomery.
This is the traditional singer/songwriter. She doesnât sing covers, only her own songs, although this wasnât written by her, it is written for her. To me this is an amazing womanâs song. Many of us have had similar situations. âIâll feel the power, but you wonâtâ. Her writing, her voice and her guitar playing are top level.
Actually, she does do covers. She's done many a Jackson Browne song. But they're great friends and she does them so well.
@@RockyTheWonderGeek and this isn't her song
Finally someone is reacting to Bonnie Raitt! She has been on the music scene for decades. My favorite song is âMighty Tight Womanâ give it a listen đđ
âLove Me Like a Manâ
âFinest Lovin Manâ
âWomen Be Wiseâ
âGive It Up Or Let Me Goâ
âLove Has No Prideâ
âGuiltyâ
âAngel From Montgomeryâ
âAbout To Make Me Leave Homeâ
âNo Gettin Over Youâ with Keb Mo
âIâm In The Moodâ with John Lee Hooker
Just for a start! People used to come to my house in the 80âs and always wanted to know what music I was playing. I introduced a lot of friends to Bonnie âźïžđ
one of her best
I absolutely adore this woman. Such incredible talent she owns this song and everyone she sings
Plus fabulous blues and slide guitarist. They don't come anymore talented
Beautiful song. Beautiful voice.
She has so many great songs, Something to talk about, Have a Heart. Many more.
Also she gets her talent honestly. Her father was a well-known musical theater singer and actor.
I know you will fall in love with her if you listen to more of her work like the rest of us.
Bonnie has the most pure, clear, beautiful voice. I read somewhere that in recording one of her albums, her vocals on the songs were recorded in one take. She has perfect pitch. Plus she can play slide guitar like nobodyâs business. Put simply, the lady is a gigantic talent.
She's a great blues guitarist with a lot of the old black blues legends. She knows what she's doing.
She does an amazing cover of "Can't find my way home". However, yes, this is her song. A fun one of hers "Let's give them something to talk about"
Bonnie Raitt is my favorite female artist of all time. Her voice carries the feelings of any song she sings. Nick of Time and Not the Only One are my 2 faves after this one. I had just ended a relationship with a man I hoped to marry but we weren't good for each other and this song was released the same month...very fitting. I think you'll love most of her music.
This Is My Favorite Bonnie Raitt Song With Bruce HornsbyđAlso "Going Wild For U Baby"đčđ¶
Bonnie released this song in 1991. I would consider this song a classic. Her voice is beyond mesmerizing.
"Take My Love With You", "Thing Called Love", "Used To Rule The World" "Something To Talk About", "Love Letter", "Papa Come Quick", "Used To Rule The World"....just to name a few of the great Bonnie Raiit's songs. Thank you sir.....
âAngel from Montgomeryâ is my favorite.
She is a beautiful singer and artist. Iâve followed her for years. Her father is also pretty great.
Bonnie Raitt is my favorite blues singer I have ever heard and a fabulous concert performer.
Angel from Montgomery...anything will work she is so awesome and one of the greatest guitarists you will find.
Bonnie wrote a song for every one of my heartbreaks. After a good cry, I could go on. Thanks, Bonnie.â€ïžâđ„đ
This song is so great, that even Teddy Swims was in tears after covering this song. It is truly a heartfelt story that all of us can relate to. At least I know that I can! Thank you Bonnie...
No one does this song đ§ like BonnieâŠ. She is the original!! Love her music
Bonnie is one of the greatest and this is her song. Furthermore Bonnie is a ten-time Grammy winner, who Rolling Stone named as both one of the "100 Greatest Singers of All Time" and one of the "100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time,"
I will never not tear up when I hear this song & although this live version is really good.. the way you hear it like you would on a radio station is the best.. I will always remember getting to see her live in concert back when I was 19.. it was the most incredible experience & I had backstage passes,so I got to meet her in person & I had to seriously chuckle because I never realized how short or small she really was until I met her face to face.. I love pretty much all of her music.. Have a Heart & Thing Called Love & Something to Talk About are some of my favorites.. Her voice is slightly raspy & yet so soothing to the senses. Sheâs just amazing.
Same. I didn't get to meet her but saw her live at The Warfield in SF in the early '80's. She's lived quite a life and it's all there in her voice. That slide guitar, too. Oomph.
"Let's Give Them Something To Talk About" is a great song of hers.
One of the most beautifulist songs ever written, suberbly sung by Bonnie Raitt. Is this the performance with Bruce Hornsby on piano? What an all-around outstanding performance, my favorite rendition. I think George Michael also did a wonderful rendition of this song, but I still like Bonnie's version the best, her voice, her inflection, her intonation, all make this version something very special, plus, if truth be told, it has some very special meaning for me, but some very good memories also. By Bonnie's appearance, this song has very special meaning to her also, she must have written it in response to a tragic experience, but we all go on. Bravo, Bonnie, Bravo.
A beautiful, enchantingly painful song written by a guy with an unbelievable story - Mike Reid. An All American at Penn State and a 2 time Pro Bowl defensive lineman for the Cincinnati Bengals, he quit the NFL at age 26 to focus on his music. Not the sort of person you associate with this gift. A big, tough freak of nature defensive lineman? Mike went on to write twelve #1 songs, including this one. He's a legend in Happy Valley, Cincinnati and Nashville. And anywhere else he's ever taken the stage.
I have been in love with this song, Bonnie Raitts version, for decades. She is not singing ABOUT this, she is singing the story, and singing her story to you. The most haunting heartbreak creeps from her soul.
Bro that's a Live performance for her, but her version from the CD is amazing. As far as I know she is the Original Artist of this song.
Bonnie is and always be the original artist, Timeless Classic
One of the best all-time female singer songwriters, slide guitarists⊠still my hero forever!
Listen to : Nick of Time; Angel from Montgomery; Love has no pride
There's just so much emotion behind her voice. Another by her I love is "Something to Talk About". Thanks for the reaction! :)
Mr l Boyd you're a good looking young man, with a very expressive face, I love that you can tell when you are really pleased by something as far as the voice and the words they affect you, I think you are empathetic and that's what makes you so very good at this particular job because you can feel it and voice that feeling through the expressions of your face, on top of being cool calm and collected, you're very educated and dedicated and, have some of the sharpest ears, and highly educated to know what your job is and do it very well!!!!. Just saying!!!
I LOVE this woman singing. I listen to her often.
Impossible to not like this song or any by Bonnie! She sings from her soul.
"I Can't Make You Love Me" is a song written by Mike Reid and Allen Shamblin and recorded by American singer Bonnie Raitt for her eleventh studio album, Luck of the Draw (1991). " Wikipedia. .... Nice reaction. AM enjoying your exploration of different genres. As a follow to this one may I recommend Bonnie Raitt/Norah Jones cover of "Tennessee Waltz." 3 classics at once.
Thanks for me mentioning this one. I love both Bonnie and Norah but havenât heard them sing together. Iâm off to find it right now!
Mike Reid is an interesting guy. He was a recently retired pro football player when he wrote this song, having played for the Cincinnati Bengals. He became a successful Nashville songwriter selling his work mostly to country artists, but occasionally to crossover artists like this. He also tried his hand at singing himself. He recorded his own version of "I Can't Make You Love Me" after Raitt. His version has a very different tone and is interesting for comparison's sake, but the song inherently seems to work better from a female perspective.
Oh, yeah! The Bonnie, Norah Tennessee Waltz!
It's so well done!
She makes you feel a pain that everyone has felt at some point in their lives...
When she sings it, I cry....
There are very few artists that have that ability and she does that so well.
She is an amazing artist for sure.
My mom was a huge Bonnie Raitt fan as I was growing up in the 80âs and Iâm fortunate to have known such a great musician. A little unknown fact is that she is a masterful writer and wrote TONS of country music hits for all kinds of musicians.
This woman brings me to tears when she sings this song. Love her đ
