Nigerian Nightmare - Christian Okoye Highlights

- The Chiefs' battering ram had a short but memorable career as a power back who required at least 3 guys to bring him down.
All footage and music belong to their respective owners. Those respective owners are probably the NFL.
I found the footage on CZcams, and the music was downloaded off Dave Volsky's amazing channel. - Sport
I came here for the music.
Eric B who didn’t
I came for the highlights, but stayed for the music
bahahaha
Way better than mumble-rap!
This gives me nostalgic feelings from a time and place that I am unsure of...
An underrated Tecmo Super Bowl star.
Bro. The chiefs had Christian okoye and Barry word. And they were equal to bo Jackson and Marcus Allen.
@@bunkerarchie6881 True
He sure as hell wasn't underrated in gameplay...
@dan allen He's never talked about when people bring up the Tecmo stars. Bo, Randall, Neal Anderson, Rice. Everyone remembers them. Few discuss how good Okoye was on that game.
When his health was excellent the defenders just bounced off of him! Unstoppable!
Seriously with this music for these highlights. Sounds like the opening song to a 80s sitcom
Thought it WAS Hart 2 Hart
I wore a neck roll like that when I played football in the 90s and he was one of my inspirations. Helluva player.
We always called then cowboy collars because back in the day cowboys that ride broncs in the rodeos used to wear them and hell they still might. I've been away from rodeoing for about 20 years now and even then I was a bullrider. Bull riders didn't have enough sense to try and protect ourselves in any way besides a vest and hitting the ground and either bouncing up to our feet on the run in the opposite direction of the bull or hitting the ground running lol. Damn what I wouldn't do to be about 20 years younger again playing football and chasing the rodeo. Best days of my youth right there.
When Christian ran all of those defensive backs certainly had to make business decisions!! Well done my friend!!
If he were a more experienced runner he could've had a stellar career. He ran too upright and not behind his pads. This is probably due to his limited college football career at Azusa Pacific. The man was still a freak of nature and is a great human being. Nice video!
This channel is sacred and we need to protect it
I'm just now seeing this comment. Thanks for the compliment lol
Tacklers used to bounce right off him in Tecmo Bowl.
Fax lol
Cough steve Atwater cough cough
@@nickz1487 he got him one good time lol okoye ran him over plenty of times😂🤣😉💯
I remember him crushing the Dolphins on Monday night when I was a young lad. It was the first time I was allowed to stay up and watch an entire Monday night game.
Imagine him playing for the chiefs in this day and age♥️♥️♥️🔥
This is the best era of NFL films in my opinion.
Agreed. RIP Steve Sabol
People seem to forget and overlook just how fast he was. He deserved those Tecmobowl stats.
Christian Okoye had a fairly typical career arc for a good running back, if you think about it. He was a good backup with some serious potential in his first two seasons. He then peaked in his third season, and then began declining afterwards. As a power back, he was never destined to have a long career. However, Okoye had a memorable one, which is more than most RBs can say.
btw, it's a darn shame that Okoye highlights were rare. I used the NFL Yearbook videos to get footage for this video, and NFL films seemed allergic to showing Okoye runs. They'd rather show another ho-hum Steve DeBerg to Stephone Paige pass.
Anyways, the next video will be another Chiefs-centric video. Y'all are about to see why Derrick Thomas was the greatest pass-rusher in Alabama history.
Derrick Thomas and Neil Smith made for a deadly pass-rushing tandem. Derrick Thomas on turf was every QB's and left tackle's nightmare.
@@davidk6269 You're probably going to enjoy the Derrick Thomas video then!
Not just the best in Alabama history but NFL!
Okoye went from knowing nothing about football to becoming the best running back in the NFL five years later (beating the likes of Eric Dickerson and Bo Jackson in 89). I wouldn't call that a typical career arc haha
Thank you so much for this!
The Nigerian Nightmare..... him and Barry Word was a tremendous backfield
Yeah, it could be argued that Word and Okoye's ratings should have been swapped in Tecmo Super Bowl, if you're familiar with that game. Word had an excellent 1990 campaign, which is the year the ratings for the game are based on.
@@PockyCandy I'm I familiar with Super Tecmo Bowl😂😂😂😂 I'm 42 years old that was my life for 2 years😂😂😂..... yeah man they werr a devastating combination on the game and in real life for a couple of seasons.......
LOVED BARRY WORD...ANOTHER MONSTER.
@@85passthru it makes me happy to hear you talk about Barry Word. Nobody ever brings him up except me and my friends.
@@PockyCandy they were very close in their abilities.
I remember when he was wrecking havoc on linebackers thought the league. This was back when the fullbacks were huge. Then you see this train of a man coming at you full on and looking even bigger with that cowboy collar you might as well lay down and cry because it's all over but the pain.
He could have been even better if he would have had bigger shoulder pads.
I agree...he was beefed up on Tecmo Bowl and one of the hardest dudes to tackle
Who here reset the game when he got injured. And even more when you put him as kick and punt returner. Damn the returns were so fun with this guy...I had like 10 kr returns for scores and 3 punts in a season once. Good times!
Great job this sound like an 80s commercial
This was my guy in Super Techmo Bowl
(Steve Atwater’s has joined the chat)
I'll never forget K.C. and Okoye powering the ball down the field against the Buffalo Bills during a Monday Night Football game. Dan Dierdorf described it as K.C. going hammer and tong against an overmanned Bills defense. Power football at its finest. I think Okoye and K.C. won the Big 10 conference that year. LOL.
Barry Word was a tough runner too, think they played at the same time..
I watched this video twice.. Once for the video. And a second time to blast in my Bluetooth speakers. This track is 🔥.
What a beast. 1991 was the year I was born.
Metallica live Moscow 1991. Look it up. You won't be disappointed
My gawd...those shoulder pads. It looks like he's got a sofa on his back.
😂😂😂😂
One of my favorite NFL collisions is Okoye and Steve Atwater. That play will always be the first thing to come to mind when hearing either of their names. Loved the music Pocky!
koolguyinplano Steve Atwater bodied him, and he was tiny! Steve Atwater was an awesome strong safety
Atwater got one good hit on him. What they don't show is how many times he ran over Atwater just like everyone else that got in front of him.
Mike L I’m sure...
@@allurvin6618 I went back and watched the video he did hit him good, but that was not often done against Okoye.
Mike L I totally agree, Okoye was an 18 wheeled beast, and Atwater was so tiny, he deserves credit for hitting Okoye that hard, especially since Okoye basically doesn’t go down
Okoye was a BEAST and he's running straight up if he had lowered his shoulders no one would try to stop him.
I remember Christian Okoye he was a monster wish he could of played a full career due to his size and the way he plowed them lines eventually will ware you down.
this guy made us proud to be Nigerian back in the day
Reminds me of the old NFL Films music. Love it!
He brought a new meaning to wearing a neck roll!!
He was essentially DK Metcalf, but as a running back. If he had played football as a child or teenager, he could've easily been considered one of the all time great RBs of all time. The "Nigerian Nightmare!"
Christian Okoye is the most athletic NFL player of all time and idc what anyone thinks. He ran a 4.45 at 260 😥
Please don't change the music. Its perfect lol
I love how he wrapped both arms around the ball and tucked it to his chest while busting through the line: it was kind of a trademark of his running style.
This guy was a load to bring down both in real life and video 🎮!!
Okoye was unstoppable on Tecmo Bowl! 😂
This is the best soundtrack of all time
A 1x 1st team ALL Pro ,2x Pro Bowl , he lead the league in rush one year and finished 7th in rushing a other year
Those shoulder pads make him look like a friggin bison in a football jersey.
I love my CHIEFS, and, my Nigerian Nightmare... but, dammit! That music has GOTS to go!!
You're absolutely correct. I would have thought original sound bites what have been more entertaining. I've been a Chiefs fan since 1969. Love the old days. Thank goodness they didn't have instant replay in those days. PS I think they got the music from The Love Boat. LOL.
"GO CHIEFS!!! "
Music is great
Staring at his shoulder pads is giving me CTE
CHRISTIAN OKOYE AND I WHERE WATCHING THE SUPERBOWL TOGETHER AT PACHANGA CASINO AND IT WAS NICE THAT THE CHIEFS WON AND SEEN HIM CELEBRATE IT WAS AWESOME....
Gotta love the 80s TV show style music
I wish NFL RBs still wore big pads like that. Looks tough!
Who’s here from the Texas game lol
FASCINATING!
Pound for pound ..... this guy pounded !!
This terminator nvr went backwards!!
Awsome!
Still remember seeing him run 🏃♂️ Thur Linebackers & Defensive Backs lol 😂 Mack Truck coming to You
The most late 80s early 90s music ever.
Welp kc is in the super bowl, good luck chiefs.
And again 😍
The music kills me lmao haha
This man is a god FB and HB in Madden
The music tho reminds me of the intro to an 80s sitcom
He was great. The action was great. Now I will go jump off my house due to the music.
A linebacker running the football. What a terror.
I came here because I was playing ultimate team on madden 20 and he was killing my defense for some odd reason
Really it honestly seems like no wanted to tackle that monster and he's surprisingly more athletic than I remember.
C.H.I.P.S. music or St. Elsewhere seems out of place but interesting. thanks for posting.
Christian Okoye ,Larry Csonka with great speed.
Just played him. He was on bad health status and put him in on Good two games later. Had 152 yards on 10 carries against the Ray Da's.
Best fb of all time greatest ever sports athlete runner thanks to the lord christ jesus the heavenly father blessed ever day thanks brother kc
I can’t understand why more people don’t remember the Nigerian nightmare,,,,, he made his own holes for gods sake.
He looked like the biggest guy on the field.
He had never even seen a football until he was 20. If he had grown up playing the game....
Thought I was on the Love Boat while watching this clip
He came to my school like 3 times
Where you live and he is my uncle I’ll ask him if that’s true
Could you imagine Nightmare with Emmitt Smith’s offensive line. 🤦🏻♂️
Imagine if you're a safety and have to tackle him coming full speed untouched.
I'll say this- there was no better coach in that era better for rbs than Marty Schottenheimer. If Okoye would have held on another couple of years, he'd be in a power duo with Marcus Allen!
Marty-ball !!! One of my all time favorite concepts of offense
He is my uncle and I am not lieing I’m in a zoom with him right now
Lmao 🤣🤣🤣 Good for you and as a fellow 9ja, I wish I could watch him play live back then. Oh well let me stick to my FALCONS
who has seen steve atwater hitstick christain okoye
Me thinking they legit got a Lineman to play RB... that many injuries on the squad!😅
The Juggernaut of NFL
Trying to figure out why the music is more "dated" than the footage!
After Okoye met Atwater, it was all over -
Whats the name of the song used for this video some body help me please lol
Love Boat reunion song
Good now make a show about steve Atwater showing this man who controlled the field lol good video tho
Made it the NFL and won a rushing title one year. All without learning how to cut.
Remember, he only played two years of college ball. His first love was soccer. He went to Azusa Pacific University to throw the discus and hammer in track and field.
Okoye's got the ball and he's gonna tackle you.
Damn this dude bigger tham the o-lineman
👊🏾
I left because of the music
I think he is the main reason going low for the legs was invented,, my luck he would've used me as a catapult, steps on my back, and leaps in the endzone...
The love boat was canceled back in the '80's
In madden this fb should have been in the nfl 100 so that if u build a all nfl 100 team you’d have a fb
Is this THE LOVE BOAT theme song 😅
Is this a defense blooper video?
Where’s the Derrick Thomas one? :P
It's done, just not uploaded yet.
PockyCandy You gots ta upload it!
Derrick Henry reminds me of Okoye.
What is up with the Love Boat music?
This music sounds like it could have been on an episode of “Love Boat”! It’s freakin horrible!
This music tho?!?!
Why the disco music😕
Before there was Mike allstott...... There was the nightmare
BRADY!!!
If Chiefs just had a nxt level QB in early-mid 90s? Like a Dan Marino as they should drafted in 83 Draft. Chiefs have at least 5 SB rings now.
Some those early-mid 90s teams better than Chiefs SBLIV team overall. Just no QB. One best defenses of all-time, amazing offensive line, great RBs
