- I completely remade the Eric Dickerson highlight video I posted previously. Dickerson is one of the greatest runningbacks ever; a runningback with amazing speed and a running style so smooth that it didn't appear that he was trying at all. Eric ran over 13,000 yards and 96 touchdowns with the highlight of his career being the 2,105 rushing yards in 1984. Also a Hall of Famer and a 5x All Pro

He always ran so pretty it looked effortless and great
Lot of people always gave proper props to his speed and slick as oil running style but Ole 29 had some power to.
He was the most complete runner I ever saw. Power AND speed AND incredible moves.
I was just about to say that. No one really even talks about Erick Dickerson as being one of the best running backs but truth be told he is

And his run with the knees to the chest and with the upright position, pure Beautiful stride run, like a aribian stallion, I remember the night he was totally disrespected, it was his last season when he was with the Raiders, it was a Monday night game and he was playing his former team the colt's, the colt's were blowing the raiders out and Dickerson hadn't played all night, the Raiders coach had the audacity to bring Dickerson in, the raiders had a 3rd down and Twenty, and handed the ball to Dickerson he got about 3yrds even the commentators calling the game said that was totally disrespectful for them to do that to a man of class and his caliber, even the colt's fans booed the raiders for that.
Dickerson was the sweetest back of all time. Use to love to watch him run. One of the all time best.
I just love him and Dorsett, Bettis, Franco...They all had guts and style.

My all time favorite player. I remember meeting him in Lakeland Fl. He was hosting the Miss teen USA paegent at the Lakeland civic center . I was just a young kid . He came out the front door and was surrounded by security guards . I wanted to get his rookie card autographed . I walked over to him and his security guards stopped me and said he was in a hurry to another engagement . All of a sudden Mr Dickerson yelled hey let him through. The security guard walked over with me and i remember him saying to the guard
" I know your doing you job but ,
I ALWAYS HAVE TIME FOR MY FANS ."
He got down on one knee and asked me if he could sign something and i handed him the card . He smiled and signed it and said always work hard for what you want and you will get it . I thanked him and he said have a good day kid .
I still have that football card in a plastic holder . Its probably quite valuable now . Its priceless to me .
What a really great guy .
You can get mesmerized watching Dickerson's sprint style of running. Arms move on torso in perfect timing, long strides and he could take a hit with little problem. The man just glides upright and his level drops in traffic. Art in motion. Awesome back....
Take a hit is true, but he could deliver one if he chose to .
We used to hold our breath when Dickerson got the ball,he could take it all the way in a heartbeat
What hurt him tremendously is that he sat out alot of games over contract disputes, if he hadn't I truly believe he would have eclipsed Walter Payton too.

Eric the Great. Best ever in my opinion. Such a rare blend of size, speed and power. Teams knew he was getting 25-30 carries per but he still tore it up

One of the absolute greatest of GREATS. A full blown locomotive with exceptional lateral capability. Would, many times, "simply" bounce off defenders. The saddest, most unconscionable part......... He's NEVER mentioned.

Loved this man as a kid. I live in the UK and grew up in the 80's oving Amerian Football. The Rams where my favourite team and still are. I even wrote to the Rams and got a signed picture sent from this legend... and I just said it there... Eric Dickerson is A LEGEND!!
That's pretty cool. I can't imgaine tweeting a player and getting a signed picture straight away. Definitely a memento to hold onto.
Eric was a big boy fast great vision strong as hell.. he played in an Era of pro ball 70s 80s 90s were it was a brutal hard hiting league hes one of the greats for sure.

You know looking at this video reminds me Eric Dickerson was one of the top 5 backs in history. He’s often forgotten but what a great runner. Class personified.
I think he was forgotten because he held on to long. He was a shell of himself the last 4 or 5 seasons of his career and that’s what some fans remember. I started watching regularly in ‘91 so I had no idea he was one of the best RB’s ever until years later.
Attended Rams games with my dad from '78 to '92. In the '80s, even during losing seasons, the crowds still attended just to watch Dickerson's epic runs. He was the show.
Frank Gifford and the others were trying to describe Eric Dickerson’s running style on Monday Night Football. O. J. Simpson said, “he run so pretty”. That toss sweep was his bread and butter, he would cut and hit the hole so quickly. Gone!!!!!

When I was 7, he and other players visited my hometown of El Paso, Tx. for a fishing event. My parents took me with the hopes of just seeing him from afar and wave to him. As we were eating, I see this giant approach me and it was him. I was frozen, should I wave, should I not bother him, what do I do. I was decked out in all Rams Merch and was hoping maybe he would see me…next thing I know, he calls out my name and comes up to me to shake my hand. My parents had pulled strings to make sure he would meet me. He stuck around and sat with my parents, the respect he showed my mom and dad showed me that my parents were my real heros. I had a million questions but I was too shocked by the whole thing. He was humble, gracious, engaging, fun…
I walked away with photos and signed Merch. I wish I could thank him because I realized, later in life, that I admired him because of his grace and ability to do things different, to do things in your own way and still succeed with humility and honesty.
I grew up with ADHD and Autism and I always remembered “What would Eric Dickerson do?”

I remember defenders would bounce off of Dickerson. He was hard to tackle, because of that upright high knee style. In my opinion, Dickerson was the best ever.

@@billmorrison9068they didnt top it. He literally ran for 1808 and 2105 his 1st 2 years. Faulk wasnt close and LT was below 4.0 ypc as a rookie.
So ture. He had the best two season of any running back. Marshall Faulk was not in his class, not even close.
@@jamesasmith2494 as a runner, Marshall wasnt close. He never even had 1 1500 yard season or a rushing title. Eric Dickerson has many plus 1500 yards seasons and 4 rushing titles. And he succeeded on a piss poor Colts team, also.

My favorite player ever is Walter Payton. My 2 favorite running backs to watch ever are Barry Sanders and Eric Dickerson. Those 2 did things that just made your jaw drop. Barry could stop and start like nobody had ever seen. Was strong as a ox and fast. Eric was poetry in motion. Never saw a RB hit a hole like he did and be past the safeties as fast as he did. He looked like Michael Johnson ( the sprinter) running a football.
Bo Jackson would give Dickerson a run for his money when he comes to bursting out of a whole and plowing through safeties like a bowling ball 🎳
Fairy Sanders was picking up his yardage in 3rd and long situations. And he ran in a lot of 3 wr sets. Dickerson and Walter were in power I formations. You KNEW they were getting the ball.

He really made it look effortless when he got past the last line of defense. Eric is one of the greatest pure runners of all time.

Fortunate to grow up in the 80’s and be able to watch Dickerson and Payton. Have to say I had the pleasure to meet Eric. I’m 6-4 and he was taller than me.

another thing, being a tall RB, Eric didn't need to take alot of steps like most small RB... he just needed a few steps... amazing!
I heard Jackie Slater say that Eric was the easiest back to block for because you just had to control the man in front of you for a moment and Eric would be gone! Past them!
I used to watch him run at Anaheim didn't care much for Robinson as a coach though.🤷🙋

Took my Son to Canton in 2001 by luck and chance we got his Ram helmet ( official) signed by Youngblood on the left horn and Dryer on the right horn! Starting left and right defensive ends! I'm old enough to of watched the Fearsome foursome play at the Coliseum Pop took me to my first game in 1969 !

Derrick Henry reminds me so much of him. Tall and muscular with an upright running style. Bit of a forward lean behind the line of scrimmage. Absolutely bruising physicality. Built like a linebacker with the speed of a defensive back. Freak of nature.
That's a pretty good comparison now that I think about it. Eric is faster, but Derrick is bigger by around 25 pounds. Derrick will have my vote for the HOF if he run for 2,000 yards again.

The most beautiful runner i ever saw. Dickerson was so smooth. He looked effortless in the stride and so his speed looked effortless. Watch all the people flailing and falling trying to catch him. When he hit full speed in 2 or 3 strides, everyone else moved backwards.
I'm 55, I saw his incredible rookie year and 2nd year. Only 3 players in my life have left me in awwwww. Marino, Dickerson, and Deion.

Best running back in my lifetime, and I've been on this rock for about 60 years.
Eric was a joy to watch in high school, college, and at the pro level. Crazy how he barely gets mentioned these days among the great running backs of all time.
He wasn't an especially stylish runner, I think that's why.
Those were the days as a Rams fan, along with 1999-2000 season of course! I just wish the Rams had a real QB when Dickerson was there, they could have been the first greatest show on turf! They almost beat the '85 bears in the NFC championship game, considered by many to be the best defense of all time. But Dieter Brock coming from the CFL couldn't quite cut it allowing "Da-Bears" to concentrate on stopping 'The big Dick" which along with the -15 degree temperature in Chicago made it almost impossible for the Rams and Dickerson to run most of their usual plays! Jackie Slater (another Ram and NFL HOF player)deserves a shout out (along with the rest of their O-line) for his years (19, all with the Rams!) as an offensive tackle, blocking for many different backs including Dickerson in his record breaking rookie season and his record setting second. Good memories!
Yeah the years that Dickerson was with the Rams, he was the offense. His last year there he had Jim Everett as the QB (not a great QB, but better than previous guys). Would've been interesting to see how Dickerson's career played out if he stayed with the Rams a few more years.
They did not almost beat the Bears in the NFC Championship. They were shut out in that game. 24-0

@@Tigerbrown44 Exactly. Dickerson was amazing, but to say they "almost beat the Bears" that day is beyond absurd. However, I will agree that if they had a better QB, they might have made it to the Super Bowl during Dickerson's years in LA.

Dickerson was at his peak just a few years after Channel 4 first started showing football to UK audiences, so we on this side of the pond have particularly strong memories of him, as he was the first true all-time great running back whose career we saw in its entirety. What a player. He had everything - speed, size, agility, and was waaaay tougher than he was ever given credit for. Second only to Sanders in my personal all-time list. Legend.
Youngsters nowadays have absolutely no idea how great this dude was, he rarely gets the recognition he rightfully deserves, his numbers are absolutely ridiculous, especially what he did early in his career.

Always thought Dickerson had best running form of all the greatest running backs of all time. He ran with a football in one hand and as though he had a baton in the other. Like the commentators say, even though he didn't have that low center of gravity like Smith and Sanders who could juke taller players more easily, Dickerson could fake out shorter players then run like he was bringing in the final hundred meters of the sprint relay.
What astounds me in 2023 is that Eric's records still stand. There have been so many great backs since Eric. The man wasn't like Barry. He didn't avoid contact.

I remember as a young BYU fan...watching the "Miracle Bowl" between BYU and SMU. BYU ended up winning the game at the very end with a Hail Mary from Jim McMahon. But Eric Dickerson just had his way with the BYU defense all game long. And it was true. He didn't "look that fast". So I couldn't understand how they couldn't tackle him. But when I saw it continue into the NFL...I understood he was that fast and that good. He was just toying with the BYU defenders.

Living in the DFW area,watched him collegiately at SMU! One of the top 10 backs ever. For a man his size and could run as fast as he could! He was the real deal
My brother went to SMU. Dick fresh year they switched from Cotton Bowl to TX Stadium. Dick wasn't starting at first. It was Charles Waggner and Craig James. CW broke a couple bones in his neck on a kickoff return against UT. Then Dick got his chance. The rest is history !!!!!!!!!

I saw Dickerson in his NFL prime as a season ticket holder and he was amazing! It all seemed so effortless and at halftime he would have 60 yards and at the end of the game he would run for 200+. There was an El Torito restaurant near the stadium and the Rams players would be there before any fan could get there.
There was only one bust I took a picture next to when I went to the Hall of Fame, it was Eric Dickerson. I was so broken up when he left and went to the Colts.

His career was at its end when I got old enough to enjoy watching football at 7 years old but I heard my family speak of his greatness. I could only imagine what he could have done with a offense that had a good passing quarterback to where the defense didn't know that 9/10 plays were runs
