NFL 50 Greatest Interior Defensive Lineman (2024)
This is my list for the 50 greatest interior defensive lineman in NFL history. This list consists of defensive tackles, nose tackles, and some 3-4 defensive ends. I looked at the stats, accolades, peak years, longevity, and highlights of these players to rank. Also broke it up into tiers cause there were a lot of close calls. Please enjoy and let me know what you think while being respectful in the comments.

Roger Brown Highlights
zhlédnutí 82Před 14 dny
One of the first players in NFL history to weight over 300 lbs. A great, but forgotten defensive lineman lost to history. Brown was difficult to block and good at rushing the passer. He was a 2x First Team All Pro, had 79 sacks, was named to both the Hall of Very Good and College Football Hall of Fame.
Andre Johnson Highlights
zhlédnutí 154Před měsícem
The Houston Texans first star player. Andre was drafted 3rd overall in the 2003 NFL Draft and proved early that he was worth the pick. He is a beast of an athlete at 6'3, 229 lbs with 4.4 speed. He led the league in receptions and receiving yards twice. Was also a 2x First Team All Pro, 7x Pro Bowler, had over 1,000 receptions, and over 14,000 receiving yards in his career.

Steve McMichael Highlights
zhlédnutí 103Před měsícem
A member of the Chicago Bears during the "46 defense" era. He was a good run stuffer and brought pressure from the inside with three seasons of 10 or more sacks. He was a 2x First Team All Pro, 2x Second Team All Pro, and had 95 sacks in his career. He was voted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2024.
Dwight Freeney Highlights
zhlédnutí 178Před 2 měsíci
A great pass rusher and a master of the spin move. He gave the Colts the pass rush needed to be consistent contenders and was great at forcing turnovers. He had 125.5 sacks in his career and went over 10 sacks a season 7 different times. He was a 3x First Team All Pro, 7x Pro Bowler, and a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
Earl Thomas Highlights
zhlédnutí 106Před 2 měsíci
A great free safety and a ball hawk for the "Legion of Boom" defense. His range, ball skills, and hitting ability made the Cover 3 defense work for the Seahawks. Earl had 30 interceptions in his career and was named a 3x First Team All Pro along with the 2010's HOF Team. He's definitely worthy of the Hall of Fame, but off the field incidents may keep him out.
James Brooks Highlights
zhlédnutí 436Před 2 měsíci
One of the most underrated, forgotten running backs in NFL history. Brooks was a dynamic player; he was dangerous as a runner and elusive with the football in his hands. He was a solid receiver out of the backfield and returned kicks as well. He had over 1,200 scrimmage yards in 5 seasons and scored 79 total touchdowns. Also was a 4x Pro Bowler and had over 11,000 yards from scrimmage.
Lemar Parrish Highlights
zhlédnutí 221Před 2 měsíci
A forgotten defensive back from the 1970's. Parrish was a ball hawk and a good coverage player for the Bengals who made them formidable in tandem with Ken Riley. He had at least 5 interceptions in five of his 13 seasons in the NFL. He was dynamic was the football in his hands with 7 defensive touchdowns and 6 special teams touchdowns. He was voted to the Pro Bowl 8 times and is arguably more wo...

This list will consist of 4-3 defensive ends (Reggie White, Deacon Jones, Doug Atkins, etc.), 3-4 outside linebackers (Lawrence Taylor, Kevin Greene, Pat Swilling, etc.) and some 3-4 defensive ends who can rush from the outside (JJ Watt as an example). I looked at a combination of stats, accolades, ability, and longevity. This is ...
Matt Ryan Highlights
zhlédnutí 139Před 3 měsíci
The best quarterback in Falcons history and helped revitalize the franchise after the Michael Vick era. He was drafted 3rd overall out of Boston College and threw a touchdown with his first pass as a pro en route to the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year award. He was consistent, durable and accurate in his 15 year career with his best year being in 2016 where he threw for almost 5,000 yards and ...
Brian Urlacher Highlights
zhlédnutí 213Před 3 měsíci
A freak athlete at the linebacker position. Urlacher was a big, fast player at 6'4", 258 lbs. He converted from safety in college to middle linebacker in the NFL with the Bears and became an all time great. He used his great athleticism to run down runners and intercept passes. He was a 4x First Team All Pro, 8x Pro Bowler, and was named the NFL Defensive Player of the Year in 2005. Also named ...
Doug Atkins Highlights
zhlédnutí 150Před 3 měsíci
One of the biggest, fiercest players in NFL history. Atkins loomed large over opponents using his length and strength to overwhelm pass blockers. He was also athletic enough to chase down ball carriers and pick off passes with his leaping ability. He consistently had at least 8 sacks a season for most of his career and ended up with 94.5 unofficial sacks. He was a 1x First Team All Pro, 6x Seco...
Paul Krause Highlights

That Priest Holmes 3 year stretch only is rivaled imo only by a few other HoF RBs Terrell Davis 3yr stretch with the back to back Superbowl years Emitts early 90s stretch Faulk stretch with Rams Tomlinson mid 2000s Davis (3yr rush & rec)= 6,100yds, 53TDs Smith (3yr rush & rec)= 5,900yds, 57TDs Faulk (3yr rush & rec)= 6,750yds, 59TDs Tomlinson= 6,100yds, 69TDs Holmes (3yr rush & rec)= 6,500yds, 61TDs If Holmes had won a superbowl in KC, he’d be in the Hall of Fame already I think Tomlinsons dominant years so close to Holmes overshadowed him which is sad. Tomlinson is a top 5 all time back. Holmes could be top 10-15 Such a joy to watch them all. Elite!

1971 or maybe 1972, Lustine Chevrolet in Hyattsville had an autograph session with Sonny and Billy Kilmer early on a Saturday morning. They were signing small plastic footballs. My dad brings myself and my younger brother to see them but there must have been almost a hundred people there and we're at the very back. My dad turns to me and says, "I don't know if we're going to get autographs today boys, Billy and Sonny look a little hungover". I talked my dad into getting up onto his shoulders and I yelled "Hey Sonny, throw me a spiral". Sunny points at me, and says " you ready kid" and throws the football and I catch it. Thrill of a lifetime for an 11-year-old kid to catch a pass from Sonny Jurgensen.

As far as just football goes he is easily a hall of fame guy. He won’t be put in and that is sad but I understand he just doesn’t have the stats. The sad thing is if he played behind the line Emmitt smith did Eddie would hold the all time record. If he played on those patriot teams they would have more than 6 super bowls. Sucks that the measure of these men is not what they did alone but what their teams did for them as well. He is hall of fame material period.

Ndamukong Suh should not be #10 all time, Hall of Fame DT Buck Buchanan should be in that spot or higher, Suh is top 20 though absolutely but not top 10

    • @dukewilson14
      @dukewilson14 Před 10 dny

This one was pretty close; both players had similar stats, similar peaks, and similar accolades. I gave the Suh a small edge for two reasons; he played in an era that was emphasized offense with the rule set, and Suh wasn't surrounded by Hall of Famers like Buck was. Don't have a problem with Buck being over Suh, but I would take Suh over him.
