When this film was made in 1941, World War II had already been going on in Europe for two years, and Japan was becoming increasingly aggressive in Asia as well. The USA was still neutral and not actively involved. There were worries that the Central and South American countries might choose to be sympathetic to Germany or Japan, so to avoid that, the US openly worked to be friendly to all these countries to the south. That’s what Don Ameche first sings about when he gets driven onstage. Hollywood often worked such government campaigns into movies.
