Canoe Camping Maine - Penobscot River Historical Journey

  • The historic Penobscot River fell victim to the rapid damming of Americas rivers. Fortunately a massive effort is underway to reverse that.
We paddled 25 miles over 2 days with the Penobscot Nation's Tribal Historian and learned about the rivers tumultuous past. The Penobscot River Restoration Project was a collaborative effort to balance fisheries restoration and hydropower production in Maine’s largest watershed. The result, 2,000 miles of rivers and streams opened up to sea-run fish like the Atlantic salmon and shad. Hydropower production was maintained to complete one of the nation’s most innovative river restoration projects.

I am SO jealous of this experience right now lol and that sunset and sunrise fog drone footage 😍 Unfortunately temps have dropped over past few weeks, especially last couple of weeks and have cleaned and stored yaks away for the winter. Luckily last trip with a buddy down to Kentucky beginning of October with his padding club resulted in new friends and the opportunity to join said club. So hopefully be going on more adventures next season! Cheers Gatewood!

What an awesome trip . Bit of a change paddling a canoe . I row my aluminum canoe and use a kayak paddle with
my plastic canoe . I really enjoy my kayak , but at 65 it is a bit hard to get out of after 4 or 5 hours of paddling . My
trailer is only set up for one canoe , but it would be easy to set it up like the one in this video , and even make it fold
up to stow away in a small garage . At 65 you start to look for ways to do what you love a little easier lol . Beautiful
video as always . Did you get a chance to see my last one of Blue Bayou ( titled "I love East Texas." ) . I shot it form
a bridge close to Toledo Bend . The fields of yellow daisies and the cypress trees were so beautiful I had to fly there.
It's on my paddle list now . Oh yeah Merry Xmas .

Thanks so much for another fantastic video Mr. Brown. I know that in the U.P. of Michigan, the red coloring in the rivers is from spruce roots, not pollution. Hopefully that goes for the upper Penobscot river too. How were the black flies while you were there? Nasty buggers.

I have watched my favorite state become less wild, less natural and NOT ENOUGH is being done to stop the lumber companies and stop the commercialization of the waterfront. When are we going tho STOP SELLING OUT MAINE to the highest bidders? I treat Maine like I treat Hawaii. It is NOT mine to own.
