'Till this day, this movie still has the best Werewolfs around, the special effects of the transformations from and to are simply phenomenal.
Agreed, best design of a werewolf ever
im sure there is a best transformation of a werewolf, very nasty and shocking but I dont remember the film xD but for the transformation they used practical effects insted cgi if I remember the film I comeback jaj
@@yoestoyluis433 'An American Werewolf in London' and 'The Howling' remain the gold standard for werewolf transformations. The werewolves in 'Van Helsing' look great, though.
facts
100%
Van Helsing had personally my most favorite looking werewolf EVER his wolf looked so awesome
Agree!! Not that shit from Underworld... poor werewolfs.... jajajaja
I personally think Velkan had a better wolf design than Van Helsing's, but yeah, the whole movie itself has the best looking werewolves of any movie in hollywood
I think a loooot of people would agree with THAT. 😏😁👌🏼
fun facts van helsing in this movie is the angel gabriel one of the most powefull angels of god
@@blacky8987 archangel
The Bride of Dracula with the long black hair is now a famous Italian TV chef here in Australia. She married the guy who plays Dracula
oh really?! , that's nice , didn't know that
@@TavoDev yeah, theyre married since 2004..
Say whaaaat!😲 I had noooo idea. That is such a surprise and really wonderful.
So she’s really Dracula’s bride huh?
That's so cute. Happy for her and them ❤️
He is the archangel Gabriel, that is why dracula keeps calling him like that, at some point in time he took a human form and came to earth, he befriended dracula but for some unknown reason he killed him and after that God erased his memory. He spent the next 400 years wandering the earth until one day after a battle, again with no memory, he was found half-dead crawling up the steps of the Vatican.
they should have put that in the movies.
@@jasontodd6779 They did. They didn't show it, but it was alluded to multiple times.
Being called the "Left Hand of God" is a pretty big hint as to who he really is, as is him living for over four hundred years
@@15blackshirt Michael is God's right hand and Gabriel is usually considered the left hand.
If the movie didn’t bomb it would have made a interesting plot for a franchise. Dracula was a human that made a deal with the devil to be a vampire Van Helsing was an angel who became human.
One thing I want to say about the ending is the significance of that moment to Van Helsing. To him, it was more than reassurance that the one he loved was gone to a better place, it was affirmation that his work on God's behalf actually matters.
in a way it could refrence how it is with his horn he opens heaven's gates to let souls into heaven
The movie was giving hints that Van Helsing is Gabriel, an Archangel and the Left Hand of God.
@@tararocksong5085 I always thought that’s why he could see her on the sky
@@shania991, I thought so too.
Such a fun movie that got a lot of hate for no reason. Really enjoyed this back in the day but also just love to rewatch it every once in a while.
2 reasons i hated it:
1) The actor portraying Dracula. He was horrible. Not a good Dracula at all.
2) werewolf eyes were too cartoonish.
Not a big Hugh Jackman fan, he did ok.
Besides that, it was a fun enjoyable movie.
@@myTERAexperience I loved the Dracula actor. Had such fun with the role and was very well over the top.
The werewolves were literally the best werewolves we’ve had in any movie ever in terms of design. So not sure on that one either.
Hugh Jackman is a good actor IMO but if you don’t like him that’s fine I guess
@@blinkachu5275 Hugh Jackman was perfect in The Prestige, but if he's not in a serious role he comes off tacky to me. Idk but for some reason he'll act amazing in 1 role then "meh" in others.
@@myTERAexperience You should watch Prisoners then c: You'd really love him in that one as it's a very serious role
@@wuxiang91 Same tbh cx I love the Victorian style
Fuck I love this movie. Such dumb fun. Movies used to be fun, now everything sucks.
True.
Woke
@@chavang3699 he's not wrong though, hollywood isn't even a shell of it's former self
Well I wouldn’t say it was dumb fun considering it was a really good movie at the timing still stands the stairs being a really good crossover of a lot of the key fantasy stories created around that time. Werewolves, vampires and Frankenstein have similar always been connected with each other and Van Helsing did a really great job of that. Not least because of Hugh Jackman.😁 Movies today are still good, but back then you could definitely say a lot more stuff freely without having to worry about always trying to satisfy everyone. Animated films are still great though and they are continuing to always improve across the would.
I think it’s stupid and overkill but I think it’s fun enough to watch
Van Helsing's tech-buddy is played by David "Daisy" Wenham, the same who played Faramir in Lord Of The Rings.
Yep....David Wenham. Also Dilios and the narrator in "300"
He was also the narrator for the Spike TV series "Deadliest Warrior"
So underrated. Movies are supposed to be fun. This one nailed it
Gabriel, the Archangel, often referred to as the Left Hand of God.
also whose horn (the instrument) has the power to open the gates of heaven :) where as Michael is god's right hand and general of god's armies
Richard Roxburgh’s portrayal of Dracula is my favorite screen Dracula of all time. He plays the role so deliciously over the top. Plus, did you catch that the actor who plays Carl (the comic-relief sidekick to Van Helsing) is the same actor who played Faramir in Lord of the Rings, and Dilos, the sidekick to Leonidas and narrator of the story in 300?
Frankenstein isn't the monster. Is a common mistake. Dr Frankenstein created the monster in the book, and called him Adam. The monster, werewolves and Dracula and all associated together because of a link in gothic horror stories and the Universal Studio monster movies from the 1930s. The British film studio used them as well for a series of horror movies from the 1950s to 1970s.
I never thought the Frakenstein story fit especially well with the rest. It was a comment on the scary theoretical possibilities of science, or at least the percieved possibilities. While the other clearly have a medieval/near medieval/gothic tone and setting.
For years It used to piss me off when people called the monster "Frankenstein" but now I have surrendered to it, I don't care. People will always call him Frankenstein. Besides, he is the creation of Victor Frankenstein, he is his son and so a Frankenstein. So he can be called Frankenstein.
@@johnnyskinwalker4095 That's what I always said, the monster was the son of Dr. Frankenstein, named Adam. So the creature's full name would presumably be Adam Frankenstein. So calling the monster Frankenstein is perfectly fine.
@@TheKrossRoads Maybe it's because I'm a fan of The Munsters but I've always preferred calling the Frankenstein monster (at least the Universal version) Herman.
For a short period of time I worked at catholic school next to an old church and nunnery all owned by the catholic church of cause. I'm no catholic myself, but for some reason the very old woman caretaker of the place, kept addressing me as sir Frankenstein, which I personally found both quite strange and funny.
The score for this movie was incredible. Alan Silvestri did such an excellent job.
He always does. Don't forget he also did a lot of Zemeckis movies and 3/4 Avengers films.
@@oliverconway6960 Yes, my friend, I am very familiar with Silvestri's filmography. :) I have MANY of his scores in my vault. In fact, I have an "original silver colored factory pressed" CD to his score to "Predator" years before Varese Sarabande Records released it. My favorite score by him is "Predator 2", the percussions are freakin' insane!
I love this movie. I saw it as a kid and it still gives me so much joy. Best werewolves, fantastic style, Richard Roxburgh as Dracula giving 100 percent. It has it's problems, but I love it. It's the one film that I would love to see a reboot of.
So, basically, Hugh Jackman portrays Ethan Hunt or James Bond or Batman or someone else like these guys, but in a 19th century gothic (and a little funny) version.
I really like that movie.
Vampires and verewolfs 👍😊 now you're ready to see "Underworld" 👍👍
The priest said in the beginning that many generations of the Valerian family won't get to heaven, unless Dracula is killed.
That's the significance of him seeing her going up with her family at the end.
Arch-angel Gabriel was the "left hand of God". (I think Michael was the right hand?)
David Wenham, as Carl. Also played Faramir of Gondor in the LotR movies, and the one-eyed story teller soldier in "300".
Kate Beckinsale, played the Vampire Selene in the "Underworld" series.
Same actor Kevin J. O'Connor played Igor, as played Beni in "the Mummy" 1999
If you haven't seen Stephen Sommers' The Mummy and The Mummy Returns starring Brendan Fraser, you should watch them this month. Also has Rachel Weisz, and features Arnold Vosloo as the Mummy. Excellent monster movies, damn near perfect.
Plus there's the spinoff The Scorpion King, starring Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, but it's not a monster movie - just a fun action/adventure.
You're right that this movie combines several different classic monsters. They come from the following 19th century stories: Dracula (1897 novel by Bram Stoker), Frankenstein (1818 novel by Mary Shelley), and Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde (1886 novella by Robert Louis Stevenson).
(Stories of werewolves are much older, likely with no single source.)
In the book the monster is not called Frankenstien. Frankenstien is the name of the doctor who creates the monster, he then gives the creature the name Adam after the first man in the bible.
The monster never got a name in the book.
"Bram Stoker's Dracula" is a good deal close to the original book.
The truly underrated movie of 2004
This is one of my favorite movies of all time
Hugh Jackman is also awesome as Wolverine in the X-Men movies, and Kate Beckinsale really shines as a vampire in the Underworld films; this is loosely based on Universal Studios' classic monster movies and classic horror stories; Van Helsing in this film is derived from Professor Abraham Van Helsing in Bram Stoker's Dracula and the Archangel Gabriel
Watch The Mummy 1999
And The Mummy Returns as well
He didn't mean to kill Anna. He thought that she had the silver stake not the cure. He didn't realize it until he saw that Carl had the silver stake.
I disagree. He was in full werewolf form and would kill anything. He spared Carl because the injection was slowly bringing him back to his human senses. Just because the werewolf killed Dracula, doesn't mean it was a good werewolf. If Anna did not stab him with the needle, he would of killed Carl as well
@@MikeyWilliams1998 he tried to kill her the first time he saw her. By the stroke of midnight he went under Dracula's power. Doesn't mean he was a good werewolf before that. If that was the case then why did he make a play for Van Helsing and end up killing the coffin make, if he was in complete control?
When English is your second language, pronunciation with a heavy accent is inevitable and sometimes hard to understand but when it comes to the different locations and names in this movie, Michelle and Ellie's pronunciations of those words are not only eloquent and spot on, but romantically sexy.
They can bite me in the neck anytime they want!
I was thinking that the whole time!
They both could of been in this movie with their Slavic accents
I love how when Ellie gets excited, her expression is so fierce-looking.🥰
3 vampires walk into a bar. The first one orders a Bloody Mary. The second orders a Bloody Mary.
The bartender turns to the third and asks “a Bloody Mary?”
The vampire shakes his head. “Hot water for me”
“Hot water?”
“I found a tampon out back and want to make tea”
It was awful. Get a like!
That shot of him holding her lifeless body howling in agony...
great old school movie..it still looks AMAZING now
You know, it dawns on me watching this again that it really doesn't make sense for an immortal creature like a vampire to procreate en masse like they were doing in this movie. It just creates a lot of competition for food.
I was thinking the same thing while watching this, bever before it crossed my mind.
It's kind of funny how the portrayal of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde evolved from an older, physically large, scientist that turns into a dwarf-like, remorseless, evil character to a scientist that turns into an evil Incredible Hulk
The monk that goes with Van Helsing is the guy from 300 who loses an eye and goes back to tell the story
So nostalgic, I love dissociating into this movies world as I did when I was a child and it’s fun as fuck love it!!!! Easy 10/10
Lots of Australians in this
Van Helsing, and his side-kick, and the vampire all played by Australians
(Dracula) Richard Roxburgh married in real life one of the vampire brides Silvia Colloca (from Italy originally, but now also an Australian). They have 3 kids together
She would later appear as a different vampire in Lesbian Vampire Killers (2009) as Carmilla
That movie had also an incredible and awesome sountrack , composed by Alan Silvestri ! Loved that movie ...!
Aleera , is my beloved badass vampire bride ! Great contrast to the charachter of Kate Beckinsale ! The character of Elena Anaya , it was so epic great ! What a blondy , grey - laventer - eyed Godess !!
But the other two hottie girls are too awesome vampire brides ...
Silvia Colloca and Josie Maran ... !
Verona and Marishka !
There's actually an animated prequel to this film called "The London Assignment", which tells the backstory of Van Helsing's hunt for Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde. It's only about half an hour long, but it's still a fun watch.
Where u find that?
@@gdiaz8827 I own it on DVD. You can probably find it on Amazon or somewhere.
Чтоб вы понимали, сцена, где она и вся ее семья появляется в небе, разбила мне в детстве сердце........
Probably my favorite werewolf adaptions to this day, especially Van Helsing’s black one
You like dragons? Maybe you could check out "Reign of Fire" or "Dragonheart."
EDIT: Also, if you enjoy this kind of mix of classical stories, framed as a superhero film, I suggest "The League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen."
Love all 3 of those movies.
Самое классное в бэкстори Дракулы и Гэбриэла в том, что мы никогда и ничего о ней не узнаем 💔
Excellent reaction! Awesome flick, don’t know why it’s hated so much. Now, if you please, to keep the theme going, why not review Bram Stoker’s Dracula(1992)? It’s a really good vampire flick too!
You ever wonder if the people who did Resident Evil Village were inspired by the brides of Dracula? They were like: what if instead of a male Dracula we have a tall southern-belle Dracula?
Great reactions ladies!
Well, I mean, yeah, the Dimetrescus were clearly meant to seem like vampires, even though none of them were actual vampires. The lycans were obviously...lycans, and Heisenberg was sort of a Dr. Frankenstein. Donna was sort of like a ghost in the way that she haunted Ethan. As for Moreau...well, he's Moreau. He doesn't really fit in with the classical monsters, but I think he was inspired by the lake monster in RE4.
@@Tantalus010 I think Moreau could be inspired by the "creature from the Black Lagoon," although that still doesn't exactly fit in with the classic gothic monster and folklore theme. I definitely got RE4 lake monster vibes, too.
9:19 Van Helsing says "Why can't I have one of those?" Because it is very out of date tech. The Maxim Machine Gun (the (in)famous MG of WWI) had been out for 3 years by this point.
This and League of Extraordinary Gentlemen are my favorite newer horror revamps! And Hansel and Gretal is a good one too!
I was 8 when this came out and even at that age I said "yeah right" to kate beckinsale catching the werewolf cure xD One of my favotites. The score, the cast, the werewolf design. Love this film.
I remembered how terrified I was of the Vampires...I watched it at the cinema and I just turned 9 years old at the time, I also remembered everybody jumped out of their skin when Jekyll just pop up out of nowhere...It was fun and I watched it so many times when it came out on DVD.
One of my fav drama van helsing... and i like very few...
1:05 the only person to ever say: "oh, count [dracula], it's just you"
13:51 - "She knows her name and they just said 'Hello'". I suspected they went to high school together.
When Dracula calls Van Helsing "the Left Hand of God", he actually means that LITERALLY. Apparently the big plot twist of this film is that Van Helsing is actually the Archangel Gabriel in human form.
The reason why Dracula calls VanHelsing Gabriel is because that’s who he is . It truly is the coolest part of the movie that VanHelsing is the left hand of God, the Archangel Gabriel he is not a man he is an angel.
The monster that Van Helsing fought in the beginning of this film was the man named Dr. Jekyll who transforms into Mr. Hyde and I heard there was an animated movie prequel of Van Helsing.
The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen (2003) If you liked this film you will enjoy LXG. Generally credited as the movie production that caused Sean Connery to retire from acting. After turning down appearing in The Matrix and as Gandalf in LOTR. The movie was his final film role.
Great reaction! This was one of my favorite childhood movies! Do the Underworld series next!!
Yes 👍👍👍👍 Underworld
Underworld is awesome
Underworld plz!
Yes, we need more reactions to this movie
2021 and Van helsing has the best Werewolf in Television history 🙏💯
A lot of people hated on this I guess but when I watched it I loved it. No hate here it’s awesome
I love Van helsing... thank you for the reaction to this legendary movie
Fantastic insight into Bulgarian myths! Love it.
This was one of my favorite movies when I was a kid 😍😍
This is still one of the greatest movies ever
My fav quote: " ...your reputation proceeds you "
Best werewolf designs ever man
Good popcorn movie! :) LOVED the werewolf transformation they use in this :)
35:51 At this moment, Ellie looks like an affectionate kitty🥰
If you liked this, you guys might like the movie Underworld (2003). It would make a great Halloween movie.
It's darker and more serious than Val Helsing.
i really hope they will react to all the movies of the "Underworld" franchise... they will for sure love them!
I read original Drakula (first time I think I was around 12) book and know loads of those stories.... and do care a lot of mythology and, but I do not find this movie really fun, and it is one of my favorite movies of this type. I can not realize why sometimes people get so silly about some stuff. This is really good movie with solid mixture of several famous older horror mixing Werewolf legend, dr Jekyll and mr Hyde, Frankenstein, Van Helsing..... Drakula and probably lots more mixed in really good fun action movie...
Also tale in novel of Drakula is based on Vlad Cepes (Влад Цепеш) although he was partially inspiration for Drakula because of his cruelty toward enemies and he fought on borders Transylvania and Vlaška..... in short Drakula is based on real person but not one who flew around.
I LOVE THIS WHEN I WAS STILL A KID ❤

Catching up with some older videos and have you seen Brahm Stokers Dracula with Keanu in it 👍🏻👍🏻
Y'all should check out the spoof, "Stan Helsing" and John Carpenter's Vampires
+ Dracula: Dead and Loving It 👍😅
You two should do Fright Night! It’s a fun movie!
Gabriel, the Archangel, often referred to as the Left Hand of God. Whose horn (the instrument) has the power to open the gates of heaven :) Where as Michael is God's right hand and general of God's armies.
I used to walk alone in the forest at night, for hours... At first I did it to conquer my fears, because my pride would not allow me to be such a pansy. But later on, I did it because I enjoyed the peace and quiet.
Fun fact about this movie is that van hellsing is the human form of the arcangel gabriel one of the most powerfull angels of god thats why his werewolf form is mach with dracula demon form the dude is half angel half werewolf. and that is why he can see the gate of heaven and anna and her family at the end.
Great reaction from you, girls (of course). It's just a gothic fantasy romp in the end, so it's nice to see you took it the right way. I'm just left wondering, more than ever, what your "Eche!!" means in English - if it's even translatable.
This channel amuses me so much! I don’t know if Larry is in heaven or hell with these ladies!
Yes, the director mixed from 2 novels: Dracula & Frankenstein
Great Movie. I usually don't like vampire or werewolf movies but I really to my surprise like this one. Another vampire movie I like is Blade 1998 with Westerly Snips. Also a more dramatic movie is Interview with the Vampire with Brad Pit and Tom Cruz.
"Westerly Snips" 😂
There are many versions of these characters, so you can have many Frankenstien's Monster and Dracula movies to explore.
The James Bond of vampire hunting!!!
seriously you 2 are fun to watch. just watched the conjuring and airplane with you all
This was lots oif fun. Great reaction.
4:46 Ohff~ Jean Valjean became Van Helsing for a part time job.😅
I absolutely love that crossbow Hugh Jackman got to use in the movie.
Sometimes I think Beckinsale might actually be a vampire since she never ages.
The soundtrack for this movie is just too good
I hope you ladies will react to the films in Kate Beckinsale's Underworld franchise as well!
Dracula, being satan, an arch angel and Gabriel being another arch angel. Fought against each other in the war in heaven
These special effects are better then those 2022 moevies.
Ye should watch The Monster Squad. It's for about the same ages as this movie in which children save the world from Dracula and other monsters. It's a lot of fun for Halloween.
Van Helsing is the Arc Angel Gabriel. Hence why Dracula calls him by his real name.
Not greatest movie but it is a comfort that get you into the Halloween spirit like a cheesy Hallmark Christmas movie. Plot was convoluted and a lot of things like Vampire dying by Werewolf seems like the age old cliche that has been going on for ages. Biggest plot hole was the origins of Van Helsing him being an angel that became human is kind of cliche which could have been a good plot of multiple planned movies sadly this movie didn’t do well enough at the box office to warrant a franchise even Hugh Jackman said this wasn’t one of his best and he did Les Mis.
..........
SUCCESS!
AHHHH!
Gets me every time 😂
Always is a pleasure to see Michelle....😅😅😅😅
Universal pictures originally did the Dracula, Frankenstein, the Wolfman, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, the Mummy and a bunch of others plus the sequals and crossovers starting in the 1930's.
Van Helsing was the vampire hunter in the original Dracula so the crossovers in this movie were natural.
In Dracula Van Helsing was not really a badass
He was a badass, just a different kind of badass.
5:06 that actually got them 😂😂😂
