Fun fact: This was Cameron Diaz's first movie she did. She actually turned 21 on the set, and she had an interview about it being her first movie.
And what an entrance it was, i mean you could not ask for a sexier introduction to a movie career then that opening scene with her!
That's something I did not know 😁
She was in her prime here
@Ali Chaudhry this and Poison Ivy in Batman and Robin hit me like a semi truck towards puberty for me haha.
So funny how fast they turned on her when they saw the hidden camera.
That's one thing that's so brilliant about this movie: they code Cameron Diaz's character (Diaz'?) as the femme fatale, as the one who uses her sexuality to get ahead, who will ultimately betray our hero (in this case, Stanley). And the reporter is coded as the "nice girl" that Stanley *should* get with. Because of how the camera frames them, because of how they dress and talk, because of how they look, and because the reporter seems to like Stanley, whereas Cameron Diaz seems to like The Mask...
but then they turn that trope on its head and it's Cameron Diaz who is the good girl, and the reporter who is selfish. It's great, I love it.
And my god, the casting of Cameron Diaz is insanely, impossibly lucky. She's so perfect for that type of character, it's hard to imagine the movie without her. It was her first movie, she had to be convinced to be an actress in the first place, but now look at her.
Diaz's? Diaz'? Diaz'z?
Yeah and I was shocked later to find out that the reporter was killed in a deleted scene. I was like ‘I...did not expect that honestly’ 0.0
@@NarutoTsunadefan1 then again, if they kept the scene, it would be directly after Dorian gets the Mask, and would have driven home that he was now alignment Diabolically Evil.
I think the only thing the movie is missing is a chance for Diaz's character to get a turn with the Mask. It'd be hard to pull-off, but it could really flesh-out her character a touch more. And Diaz has the comedy chops for it, though they didn't necessarily know that at the time.
I hadn't noticed that in all the times I've watched this, and I'm glad you highlighted it because it is a refreshing take on the trope.
1994 was the Jim Carrey year.
And this was Cameron Diaz’s first acting experience.
Love how they took the homicidal Mask from the comics and focused more on the comedy for the movie. But let's all be honest. The REAL hero of the movie is Milo, the dog. I mean, COME ON, how can you NOT want a Jack Russell as a pet after watching this movie.
Lmao you mean a Russell Terrier?! 🤣😂
I wouldn’t want a Jack Russell terrier, personally. Contrary to the film, Jack Russells should not be living in condominiums or apartments, because they’re very high energy.
I also wanted Cameron Diaz as a pet after watching this movie.
LONG GO JACK RUSSEL RAT TERRIERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! #SCOOBY #MYBEBEDOG
I hear the original draft had the movie being more darker like the comic almost like a horror movie
The line about the “one-armed man” was referring to the excellent film “The Fugitive” with Harrison Ford.
Which was based on the TV series from the 60s.
@@sdrawkcabsiemansiht485 Which was based off of...oh, wait. Nevermind...
@@sdrawkcabsiemansiht485
Which starred David Jansen
"That's a SPICY meatball!!" Gets me every time 😂
Milo puts the mask on and he laughs out loud 😂 one of my favorite parts
In Spanish: "Eso sí que tenía MUCHO PICANTE!!!!", memorable lines.
Awesome movie
Not the first time he said that... czcams.com/video/by0kMP-FeYM/video.html
Because of the allusion to the old commercial for Alka Seltzer?
"A *TOMMYGUN*!"
The Mask is basically a living cartoon character that bases its characteristics and personality on the repressed inhibitions of the person wearing it.
Technically the cartoon character aspect comes from ipkis and his enjoyment of cartoons…so the characteristics of being like a cartoon character comes from him
It’s one of those tiny details that sentence structure and wording cna get different…
@@trayolphia5756 There was still a little bit of cartoonish carry over to Dorian. It wasn't near as prominent as it was with Stanley but it was still there.
@@kennethlane7645 not denying that…he’d also seen the powers of the mask from seeing Stanley…
Like I said,all a matter or phrasing…
Some of the comics that the film was based on were much darker and not “cartoonish” at all lol 👍
@@trayolphia5756 Oh yeah. If they based it more off the comics I'm pretty sure it would've gotten an R rating and I don't even wanna think about how the spin move in the club dance scene would've ended.
@@kennethlane7645 my guess something with chainsaws but idk I e never read. The comics thank God wouldn't be able to sleep otherwise
"U love me, u really love me," is taken from Sally Field's 2nd Oscar win speech :). The "thank u very much," is from Elvis!
The Mask, Ace Ventura & Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind really showed us the range Jim Carry has
If they like Jim Carrey _ they should watch_ Ace Ventura _ Pet Detective
@@DaddyDoggAbbott + "The Truman Show" AND "Bruce The Almighty"
👍🤣😂
Forever love going your general direction just stay amazing though that's all that matters that is the key to treat people nice _ stay amazing thank you kindly
@@Blandina11 let's go
Happiness and love is the key to life fun fact take it from somebody that's been robbed of everything
Dumb and Dumber, The Mask, Ace Ventura. All great comedies and all in the same year. Insane!
When a person wears the Mask they get the ability called Toon Force which mean they can do and creat anything at will and can never be killed as long as they wear it.
They can control reality but only as long as it's funny to them.
In other words the wielders of the mask become a real life cartoon basically!
I want that power lol
@@ItApproaches I think it's more like people who see the world as funny and great like Stanley can use it's powers when they think its funny but if your a dark cruel lunatic you'll use it's powers when your thinking of homicidal thoughts but hey you might be right
@@alexpena4091 Dorian was laughing at hurting and killing people like his old boss. People find different things funny.
I've never laughed harder at a film in my life than I did at the Cuban Pete sequence.
My fav part as well!
The face Milo makes as the mask is pulled off - the eye bulge and tongue poke out - is just amazing xD
This was Cameron Diaz's first film role. She was 21 when she made the film, 22 when it was released.
She had her birthday on the mask set.
The actress Stanley gives the concert tickets to is Joely Fisher, stepsister to Carrie Fisher (Princess Leia).
Dumb and dumber, ace Ventura and liar liar are comedy gold as well from Jim Carrey
dumb and dumber now that is a movie that you will pee your self :D
@@riusu8672 Yeah, that John Denver's full of shit, man!!
The actress that played the reporter is one of the main characters in 'Robin Hood Men In Tights' which is an extremely funny movie. I would love to see you girls watch that one.
34:41 Never piss off a Bulgarian woman. She'll yell and you'll bust an ear drum.
Yeah, good to know.
imagine Deadpool, Loki, Genie, Joker and Mask in the same room.
sanity would just nope out the window.
Deadpool, Loki, Genie, Joker and the Mask are caught by Jigsaw, and need to work together to escape...
I invited Freakazoid and The Creeper to the party
There's actually The Mask and Joker crossover comic book.
@@Smuglu makes sense since The Mask was by Dark Horse Comics, a subdivision of DC.
The mask is supposed to be Loki's so he may want it back.
Your faces at 41:49 when Milo gets the mask are PRICELESS :D Love Michelle's laugh near 43:35 after the "spicy meatball" thing :D Love you two, Michelle and Ellie! Love The Homies! :)
The energy needed to be portrayed by this character couldn't have been done by anyone other than Jim Carrey you've got to see Ace Ventura pet Detective.
Both Ace Vetura movies are great.
Maybe only Robin Williams(RIP)
This is a classic, still now this movie looks fresh.
Absolutely loved this reaction, ladies. Always love to see you both laugh your heads off at pure comedic brilliance. The Mask is one of the all time classics & basically cemented Jim Carrey as one of Hollywood’s A-grade actors. For me, his greatest role by far.
Also worth noting this is actually a superhero movie too. The movie is based off a comic book character of the same name by Dark Horse Comics in the early 90s, but it is a totally different story to the one you just saw now. Some say he’s actually more of a supervillain there as he does kill mercilessly & is rather sadistic throughout & from reputation he does die in the end.
Please keep up the excellent work with the channel. Easily one of my favourites on CZcams. Love it!
This movie used to scare me as a kid 😂 now it's one of my favorites. Jim Carrey is a legend.
OMG Same man and now I’m a Fan of This Movie!
Rocko's Modern Life gave me nightmares
One of my favorites with Jim is Bruce Almighty.
Agreed
B E A utiful....
What’s better to have the power of god or the power of the mask?
Fun fact: the teeth that the mask wore was supposed to be use a couple scene and have Jim Carrey not wear them when he doesn’t have any speaking line. But because of Jim Carrey being a dedicated actor, he learned to speak with the teeth as him movie like a cartoon
And the character Peggy in a delete scene was supposed dead At the hand of the bad guy wearing the mask, but they scraped the idea as they thought it would be too graphic
Some day you might want to watch another Jim Carey movie called, "The Cable Guy". Highly underrated.
Really enjoyed this! _The Mask_ truly is a modern Classic! And I *really* enjoyed your reaction to the "hopeless romantic" line ... hey, there *are* still a few of us around! 😉
Funny huh ladies?!😂 This was always one of my favorite Jim Carrey movies since back in the 90's😃
SAD FACT: Peggy actually died in the printing machine
I think that's a deleted scene on the DVD.
Is the a vid of it cause I didn't know that
@@alexpena4091 czcams.com/video/ihAczwNny-w/video.html
the reporter ?
@@anthropyrequien6227 Yes, it became a deleted scene.
So much amazing talent in this movie, I wanna point out the great work of Peter Greene, who plays the bad guy. It takes a lot of presence to act opposite Jim Carrey and not get totally overrun, but he makes it look easy.
A couple of things: First, by that time I had a big crush on Amy Yasbeck (Peggy Brant), but oh my God, Cameron!... Second, in the cinema, in the scene of the flying mask, I was "Go Milo!" all the time... And third, you two are a pleasure to watch, funny and cute! Keep going!
I love how genuine these ladies are
Watch Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls, Dumb and Dumber, The Truman Show, Liar Liar, Man On The Moon, How The Grinch Stole Christmas (The Live Action), Batman Forever, Bruce Almighty, The Cable Guy, Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind, Horton Hears a Who, Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events, and Sonic The Hedgehog.
And Love you Philip Morris
and The Majestic (his most underrated)
just IMDB his name lol
@@FrancoisDressler
Thank you. It's sad that The Majestic is so forgotten and was underappreciated.
It's a favorite of my Dad and I.
@@UTU49 It's long overdue for a critical reappraisal.
I remember seeing this in the theaters with my brother, good times and the director of this film who also did the remake of The Blob & his well known one A Nightmare On Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors.
The Blob remake is one of those few that take an okay B-movie original and make it shine. Chuck Russell has chops. Another "great remake" example is The Fly.
Hollywood should leave the "let's remake good movies" thing alone and mine their past for interesting concepts that never got the cash or influence to be properly developed.
Peggy's betrayal is a great Plot Twist
What a great funny movie I love the mask I can imagine how many people quoted the lines from Jim Carrey.
3:15 - There’s making an entrance and then there’s MAKING AN ENTRANCE.
The actress playing Peggy also played Maid Marian in Robin Hood: Men in Tights
Another movie you might enjoy is an old comedy western called "The Villain". It's basically a live action roadrunner cartoon.
Girls: "We're looking for nice guys!"
Me: *straightens tie and squirts breathspray*
Ahem..maladies. *tips hat.
Are you an 8 or higher? 6 feet minimum? Muscles? Or at least very toned and have some money? If not sorry, no dice for us "nice guys".
all of us: "sure, nice guys. good one."
Yeah and they have OnlyFans accounts lol goodluck
Now, just don't fight over me girls, that'd be embarrassing ... and so *very* unnecessary!
😉 😁
The was the beginning of a great run of movies for Jim Carey.
If you want to see the most popular film to interact cartoons with live-action, watch Who Framed Roger Rabbit?.
The first? No, no no. For that, you'll have to see "Anchors Aweigh", from 1945.
@@attorneyrobert Well, in terms of the *entire* film it is.
And there's the Incredible Mr. Limpet with Don Knotts.
WFRR? is a technical masterpiece. It even spawned an animation-industry term, "bumping the lamp", which means to put a large amount of effort into a detail that only a few observant people will directly notice. In this case, it's a scene in which Roger is in a room with a bumped overhead lamp, and the animators had to work like crazy to keep Roger's shadow in-line with the wildly-swinging light source to keep the illusion that he was actually a 3D object in the room. It's a sign of putting in the effort in even the smallest aspects to make the entire illusion work perfectly. Red Letter Media has a saying for such small details that you may not notice directly, but your subconscious picks-up and gives you a feeling of either reality or unreality; "You may not have noticed it, but your brain did". An example of a failure in this regard is several of the Transformers movies, where massive heavy robots are supposed to be impacting a city street, but none of the parked cars or street trees are moving in the slightest.
The production of WFRR? is a fascinating story, and worth looking-up if you have the time and interest.
@@attorneyrobert I think he said the most popular ‘film’, not the ‘first’ film.
You two ladies are SSSMOKIN! 🔥😍🤪😉
You can say that again pal.
One Smokin hot, one Smokin cute
20:06 😉
@@Will.Flavell Ah, I see you’re a man of culture as well.
My best favorite funniest scenes were making the cops dance, swallowing a bomb and reference of Clint Eastwood "Now I'm Just Gonna Ask Yourself One Question. Do I Feel Lucky? Do Ya, Punks?" 😂🤣👌🏿👏🏿👏🏿
My favorite part is Milo the dog getting the mask on. That could be a whole movie itself.
well it was kinda in Son of the Mask... and that movie was horrible.
this movie and Adventures in Babysitting were both prequels to Thor (2011) because Loki lost his mask in this one and Thor was stranded on Earth in Adventures in Babysitting
Yes! They absolutely should do Adventures in Babysitting.
Fun fact: the “sorry, wrong pocket” joke was made up right on the spot, it was improvised by Jim
Fun fact 2: Peggy was originally supposed to die in the newspaper factory, the newspaper would print in red “ink” after
Dorian is Zed from Pulp Fiction
Yep back in a days they were making really good movies. True adventures.
Jim Carrey is the MAN! He's like a real life cartoon character. SSSSSMOKIN!
45:06 They had Milo 🐕 fetching the mask at the end since they was planning on a sequel. Sad that it didn't happen. I'd love to know how that would've went.
There was a sequel just with different dog and different stuff
@@1sonofabiscuit837 Yeah that one was just weird though. I can't even remember anything from it and very glad about that. My brain knows it wont be needing that. lol
And after just googling what that version of the mask looks like (why did i just do that), god i hope i forget that again.
A sequel with Jim Carrey would've been far better since he's hilarious and his version of the mask is memorable and actually looks good.
Son of the Mask is one of those low quality remakes, like Stuart Little 3 which i've only even heard about because some people reacted to it. Anyway...
@@1sonofabiscuit837 Dio found it ^^
You girls have great chemistry.
"That's a spicy meatball!!" CLASSIC!!
The "Swing dance" the Mask did with Tina was what my mom (who loved to Jitterbug) would call "dirty boogie".
Michelle makes me have the same reaction The Mask had in the club when he saw Cameron Diaz singing--every time she appears in a Homies video :)
This is the movie that skyrocketed Jim Carrey's career as a comedy actor.
I’m pretty sure that Ace Ventura is the movie that skyrocketed his career, just saying 🤷🏻♂️
Another Loki variant!
Better one really as much as I like Loki from avengers I like this one way better
Awww I wanted to see your reaction to my favorite line, right after Stanley flushes Dorian, he says in like a 1920s transatlantic accent: “You were good, kid, real good. But as long as I’m around, you’ll always be second best, see?” That line gets me every time! 😂😂😂
I remember when the film came out, the visuals still hold really well......even to this day.
You guys should watch Ace Ventura pet detective... Great reaction BTW ladies x
That was my first PG-13 movie I watched on VHS curiously as I was a kid but I found it so funny and good. Jim Carrey really makes me laugh so much. And I’ll remember I watched the animated series was so cool and so funny to see it. Good times. 😁
For a long time, "Smokin´!", "It´s Party Time!", "Uh, Somebody Stop Me!" were part of our vocabulary...
Fun fact: Tina Carlyle is Princess Fiona from Shrek.
And Peggy Brant is Lady Marion from Robin Hood Men In Tights (which is another great movie for Ellie and Michelle to react...)
Jim Carrey IS a cartoon character! 🤪
I just found this channel and I love it! I love all the reactions from everyone on this channel! The only thing I would suggest is to have someone off screen refill their drinks! Hahaha great videos, keep it up!
Great reaction ladies. Ellies reaction to Peggys betrayal made me laugh. You were both fantastic and my recommendations for Jim Carrey is both Ace Ventura movies and Liar Liar. Keep up the awesome work. 👍
"Because 'Dear Peggy' pays dick" is a line I always remember.
Can you imagine how different this film would've been if they'd stuck closer to the comic it was based on? Comic Mask had the same premise, except whoever wore it was also a serial killer
First time I watched this movie as a kid I never laughed as hard as my life I have tears in my eyes I haven't laughed this good in a long time you guys' reaction to this movie was hilarious Milo is hilarious with the mask on LOL I really wish Jim Carrey would do a sequel to this if it happens I'll be internally grateful till the end of time if it does happen
Same
The Mask (IMO) belonged or is imbued with the power of Loki (god of mischief) and takes on the traits of the wearer. Therefore as Stanley loves cartoons his powers are based on them. The club owners powers were based on him being evil and greedy for power.
The mask MCU confirmed.
My fave is "Ace Ventura: Pet Detective". ❤️ Never been a fan of the mask, but I always respect your movie choices
Cheers 👍😊
The second Ace Ventura i like better.
HOLD ON TO YOUR LUGNUTS IT’S TIIIIIME FOR AN OVERHAUL!
You guys should react to some Jim Carry from his In Living Color days. Fire marshall Bill was by far his best.
His best acting performance is in Kickass 2.
Him as Captain Kirk was pretty funny.
Hank in Me, Myself and Irene is my favorite of his.
He got black balled because of that movie.Well it was his own fault because he got paid for the movie but refused to help promote the movie and has not been in a movie since.
"You love me, you really love me!!" Was actually someones Academy acceptance speech - Sally Fields I think 🤔
Love the reactions at the two female love interests, 🤣🤣🤣
The Mask was the 1st role of Cameron DIaz.
Can anyone else see the strong resemblance Ellie has to Jim Carrey? She looks a lot like him... she could pass off as a relative and most people would believe her the resemblance is so strong lol.
30:24 My actual face when Michelle nails the "chérie" better than Jim Carrey...

This was an adorable review.
Jim Carrey played a character named Fireman Pete on In Living Color, who was sort of like the prototype for the Mask character
