Fun fact. The movie was originally supposed to end with Lloyd and Harry getting on the bus. But Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels wanted to remain true to their characters and make the dumber decision.

The funniest line, is when Lloyd is leaving the bar in Aspen, and then stops to read the framed newspaper headline.
In disbelief, he exclaims "WE'VE LANDED, ON THE MOON!", with his fists raised.
I have to believe, that it was not in the script; and he just saw it, and went for it.
Even more astounding, is that later in his career, he stars as Andy Kaufman, in "Man On The Moon".
I always thought this line got overlooked. It makes me laugh every time. I’d also like to believe he improvised that.
I also love “No, it’s a cardigan! But thanks for noticing!”

Originally the guys ended up on the bus with the girls, but Jim Carrey suggested to the Farrelly Brothers that wouldn't be in Harry and Lloyd's nature. So the ending was changed

Also, The Truman Show. It's not a silly movie, but it's a Jim Carrey classic.

@@pleutron I've driven in Honolulu, and yeah, it gets tight on those highways lol. At least with Hawaii, if you need to change lanes, all you need to do is throw up a shaka hand symbol out the window, and those behind you in target lane will generally let you in the lane lol.
You guys HAVE to watch ‘Something About Mary’, which is by the same two guys who made ‘Dumb And Dumber’. It is HILARIOUS!
Yea The Farrelly Brothers Peter and Bobby also did Me, Myself and Irene with Jim Carrey, Shallow Hal with Jack Black but think Dumb and Dumber is there best work.

The orange and baby blue tuxedos have been popular Halloween costumes for 20+ years and occasionally are worn in actual weddings and formal events as some other posters have mentioned.

I think this movie demonstrates "ignorance is bliss", and you can be happier with less clutter in your life and just good friends.
Super enjoyable movie, I saw it as a kid after borrowing it on VHS from Block Busters (I actually miss going to a physical place to look at all the movies and only having 1 to pick. Made the movies more special! Well, when they were good at least more annoying if the movie was bad :P) and more than a few jokes went over my head - I had no idea what Samsonite was and I'm not sure if an IOU is an American thing but neither me or my mum knew what it was

You just can't contain a guy like Jim! Many of his best scenes are improvised and memorable lines are often completely spontaneous. Remember the "most annoying sound in the world" from this film? You could probably tell this wasn't in the script by the genuinely horrified look on Jeff Daniel's face as Jim leans over and lets him hear it. It was off the cuff in typical Carrey style. And in the bar scene in Aspen, the line "No way... that's great. We've landed on the moon!" was also made up by Jim right on the spot when he saw the framed newspaper.
Some say Jim hasn't taken any dramatic roles lately due to the poor box-office performance of his previous ones. But apparently, he will only perform in a movie that has a completely positive message. He has struggled with depression, and due to his own personal belief system doesn't want to project anything negative.

Jeff Daniels is great at both dramatic and comedic roles - I would strongly recommend a 2000 movie called The Crossing, starring him as George Washington.

HELL YEAH!!! 😀 BY FAR MY FAVORITE JIM CARREY MOVIE!!!! Seen this my 4th grade year in theaters in 1994. I remember explaining it to my teacher; whom couldn’t believe my parents took me to the theaters to watch it; it’s a JIM CARREY movie and OF COURSE I was going to watch it in theaters! But, I’m not taking anything away from Jeff Daniels! I feel he played the perfect opposite of Jim Carrey for this movie. Jim Carrey also had mentioned he didn’t want another comedian-type actor to play opposite of him for the role because he felt it would have turned into a ‘I can be funnier than you’ type of setting. Jim Carrey saw the mainly straight forward serious type actor in Jeff Daniels felt it would work perfectly & he was surely correct!!! Such a great movie choice to react too 😁👍🏼

The scene in the van with all three of the guys, where Harry and Lloyd make the bad guy so man he flips out. They really annoyed the guy so much, that was actually him yelling at them. Lol
Oh and Lloyd's chipped tooth is actually real. Jim really has a chipped tooth that he has a cover on it normally. He thought the chip would add to his character.
The bad guy Joe was played by tough guy character actor Mike Starr who usually plays bully types and bad guys. He was in On Deadly Ground with Steven Seagal in 1994 in the bar and and gets beaten to a pulp by Seagal’s character. Jim Carrey improvised the most annoying sound in the world and the scream and can see Jeff Daniels genuine expression as well. Carrey chipped his tooth like you years before he became a star and had the cap removed to give his character Lloyd more of a deranged look.
Best comedy in history. Fun fact,watched this movie more than 50 times..i know all script by heart....still watch it from time to time

The red head who played Mary Swanson actually married Jim Carrey 2 years after this movie. They divorced 10 months later.
That's my favorite movie as a kid. I love this so Much. Even today as an adult, i considere it my favorite movie Ever. It's probably the Best comedy Ever made.
Jim IS my favorite actor of all, he's a World treasure honestly.

One of my favorites Jim Carrey movies, laughed so hard when i very first watched it
It might not be his best, but it's certainly his funniest. It's my favorite, also.
The big, tough trucker guy at the cafe…the “Sea Bass” character is played by Cam Neely, an NHL Hall of Famer. One of the best power forwards to ever play…and he was/is huge. 6’3” 235lbs when he played. A no joke, huge tough guy and hardcore player, who also scored a bunch. He was a huge star in hockey when this came out. He’s now the president of the Boston Bruins (the team he famously played for).
These directors are huge New England area sports fans and they put a lot of star athletes (especially guys who play in New England/northeast part of the US) in their movies in small roles.
Ellie has the cutest smile I have ever seen.
This movie almost made me crap my pants of laughing the first time I watched it 🤣🤣

A great jim carrey to recommend is the cable guy, i think one of his best roles.
I would love for you all to watch The Crow. Its a dark fantasy comic movie that stars Brandon Lee, Bruce Lee's son, as the main character. He died making the movie, as he was accidentally fatally shot during the making of it. Its violent but beautifully shot and the acting is beautiful.
A "Doggy Bag" is what Americans call left overs or when you get a bag to take home the food from the restaurant. Jeff Daniels (the blonde guy) is a funny actor too. I hope you watch more of his movies too. Arachnophobia is a good movie that shows his range.

This films soundtrack is so powerful, despite not hearing it for a quarter of a century, and it being muted on this video, it got back into my head so much that I had to download the whole thing the day after watching this.
And just think, after Lloyd was rejected by the Austrian woman the song "Loser" by Beck was supposed to play, but Beck said no. I've already played that scene on mute and played the song just to see if it was as great as I thought it would be and it was.
I met Lauren Holly at an amusement park when I worked there. She was really cool. Great tipper too!
One of the staff of this movie actually went to truck stops, hid in one of the stalls with a recorder to get the pooping sounds LOL
Jim Carrey and Lauren Holly (Mary) got married for a couple years after filming this. Also that last scene running up to the bus was completely unscripted.
Jeff Daniels is actually an excellent dramatic actor as well. You should see the opening scene to his show The Newsroom, his character gives an awesome monologue.
They were originally going to cast Chris Elliott to play Jeff Daniels character but turned it down for a commercial. I think its why he's in there's something about mary

Everyone recommending the comedies, but Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind is by far Carey's finest film. Definitely worth a watch.
And on comedies, I love you Phillip Morris is less well known but still an amazing film.
FUN FACT, If Lloyd and Mary ever got married her name would change to MARY CHRISTMAS ! Everyone i tell that to they all missed it. THEY DID GET MARRIED IN REAL LIFE! for a short time!

I think one of the reasons why this movie still is popular after all these years is because as dumb and silly as the comedy is, there's a surprising amount of heart under all the silliness. It's actually quite a sweet story about two best friends who might be too stupid to operate in the rest of the world, but because they have each other, they're still happy.

1994 was a good year for Jim Carrey - this movie and The Mask. I think that he was still doing late night show, In Living Color. One of his characters on that show is Fire Marshal Bill. Jim go over the top as Fire Marshal Bill. I know that CZcams has video clips from In Living Color. Some of his costars made it big in other roles in TV and movies plus producing TV and movies too.

The dog car was parked around there corner from my house at Ventura studios in Orem utah for about a year , there were 3 of them identical but before the r movie came out so we had no idea , I died in theater when I saw this and saw the dog car lol

How come when girls watch a movie and there is a weirdo; or a very odd and strange guy, one that happens to be somewhat sweet, and that happens to have a crush on the girl in the movie, they suddenly thinks he's the best for the girl and they side with him. Here, Lloyd is...not what generally girl would fall for in real life. He's all wrong, but of course in the movie, he's funny for being that dumb.
This is easily my favorite Jim Carrey movie, with "Ace Ventura" being 2nd.
To add to the Jim Carrey recommendations, I suggest Yes Man.
