    Listening to this as I get ready in the morning for school. GCSEs in about two weeks. She’s explains everything so well and is one of the only people who can get me to revise and stay concentrated. I think it is the way she talks, the times she talks with

    for the last line: my city hides behind me. They mutter death, and my shadow falls as evidence of sunlight. i had differing views
    - her city hiding behind her depicts how her positive memories are seeking protection from tainted reality 'they' remind her of
    - the caesura heighten tension and builds upon this image of being trapped by reality.
    - they mutter death=refrences how verbally people are trying to manipulate her into seeing the true state of her city. they essentially shatter her utopic views and thus they are death threats to the innocent life which is the memories of her city. Bare in mind the poet has previously personified the memories of her city as a child to make this more heart wrenching
    - her shadow falling ends the poem on a negative note. at the end, the speaker is finally brought to terms with reality and her idyllic views are distorted. Thus her shadow falls as her ssunlight(positive memories of her city) is gone. You need sunlight to cast a sahdow etc
    Evidence of sunlight) before ending the speaker personifies herself as the last remaing evidence of the good in her city. eg she was the hope of a better past.
    - at the end, the poet argues the power of others perception on war torn countries (this could be society,media,governemnt) has finally ruined the sunlit perception of the speaker. they have destroyed her memories.
    -moreover falling is reminscent of a soldier falling in battle. similar to how the speakers deep sense of patriotism for her city led her to fight this battle of hope but at teh end, perhaps she fails.
    what do you think?

      Hi ❤, I am impressed about how you analyse this poem. Is very clear and beautiful. I have a teacher training interview next week and I am required to teach a lesson for 30 min. I chose this poem but I am struggling what to prepare and what do I have to analyse about it. Can you give me some clues please? Is mostly the langauge techniques and what does the author mean. I am very nevous, thank you very much!

    Do you only do AQA?

    • @glowupyourgrades
      @glowupyourgrades  Před rokem +2

      For now… yes! But a lot of the poems and texts cross over into different boards like Edexcel and OCR. Also, things like creative writing and and unseen poetry are assessed in all boards!

    Am I the only one who does Edexcel and that is so annoying . your videos are so helpful but there are some poems you got no video because most of the teachers do AQA probably because of the majority . but that's sad
