I love the idea of including a "bonus game" to throw us off the real gamelength and question if a comeback is going to happen. Plus I get an extra cast that Ill watch anyway, so its win/win. Keep doing that!

No. Bonus game is to cheat viewers who scan the ending - because zerg win match is a boring one. I wonder if winter noticed a short visit (only few seconds watch before closing the video in order to fast forwards the ending first). If he get more views on this compared to other Maru match where he lost against zerg, expect more videos with "bonus round", specially the one where terran lost the match.
I wonder if Gumiho, which was teamless, went 3-0 against solar, and yet lost the final match - finally lead to current in testing balance patch. I wonder if the environment during the contest was "I'm done as a Terran fan and/or player" hence the mega balance patch in testing - to stop terran fan/player quitting just like broodlord 4 hour match season.

@@TheStaniG You know when this game was released? Are we getting a new player? In the end, it was the same face, the same map (maybe the map changed once a year). And for some they just want to see their favorite's wins. They see a player name, they click. If they scan win, they watch. If they scan lose, they just close the video - specially if it against zerg. I don't spoil myself if TvP, but for Zerg, I'm not going to waste 1 hour of my life for bane+ling move. My opinion on it is the same as Artosis when he talk about current balance patch.
Wow, I really want to take a moment to point out some crazy details in game 1:
1. The fact that Serral only committed 2 queens to the queen walk attack (2 creep tumors, optimal creep spread)
2. Getting the roach speed early enough that it was ready in time for the rush
3. Having Lair ready early enough to spread creep via Slow-verlords
4. The fact that the whole attack was a total feint; Serral committed just enough resources that if Maru underreacted, he could run him down, but not so much that he would damage his own economy; he went into the rush with MORE workers than Maru. As soon as he set Maru's production back, he backed off with hardly any losses, setting up a creep highway for vision, aggressive defense, and of course, his maxed-out follow up attack.
5. The positioning of his queens at 4:20; he positions them in just such a way that he can watch, if not outright intercept, Maru's banshee, AND spread creep over Maru's 3rd, delaying his expansion.
So many tiny details... for an attack that resembled something Dark would do, all of those details were so distinctly _Serral_ . It's crazy how good his instincts for this game are.
Serral really respects his opponents, that's what it comes down to.
He doesn't hope for a mistake to exploit, he uses perfectly efficient builds and depending on how you react, has a decision tree to follow. Every time you make a decision, he already has a plan on how to react to it.
In another universe, Serral is the best grappler in the world.
Damn you missed the best Part in game 2, Maru was Microing his Marauder with the Medivac to keep Serral busy, but did not see that his CC was burning down. The moment the CC died and he realised it and left.
Seems like me and Maru have the same weakness

I feel like Serral would be a good one to do the FPOV cast for because, early game spamming disclosed, he plays very smooth and orderly so his screen is not blitzing around so much.
On the Ultra's game, Maru was doing great when he was taking the ultras in the open field, with room to kite, but the moment he had to take a standing fight, things went down south
That last push was disgusting
That's actually a very interesting thing to point out, when Serral was willing to completely abandon the gold base and all its drones in favor of a better fight. Maybe Maru would've done better to keep his distance and just write off the eco damage in favor of preserving his forces.

Yeah, there are players who have a realistic chance to win against him - Reynor, Clem - but not one single player is the FAVORIT against Serral. At best, it is 50-50.
People often say: Reynor wins against him - and yeah, Reynor wins often - but when you look at the statistics it is basically 50-50.
And there are a huge amount of players Serral beats almost always (Maru included), his winrates against those players are way higher than the winrates than e.g. Reynor or Clem has against those players.
Great idea with the bonus game, it makes it much harder to predict, keep doing that in the future Winter. Good casts as always :)
12:43, Winter you have been doing an amazing job. I pretty much watch all the casts, been following your twitch since 2015. Sometimes I do not watch for a week or two, but then I will binge watch them later. It is a lot more entertaining to watch compared to official casts.
I just like to add, lets give the reapers some credit for allowing the queens to fly again! If even for a moment!

@WinterStarcraft One thing you could go more in depth on that could be interesting. During the early game, doing a 1st person perspective of a player. Going through the thought process of what would be best to build to counter the opponent based on available information. Switching players throughout the series. You do this often with the observer view and it's always great information but this could show us youtube GMs how to think better about playing the game too. Love the content Winter, you're the best SC2 caster out there.
Adding on to this, I would love a full video like this where you cast from the 1st person perspective for the entirety of the game.

Clem is the best in TvZ right now but Maru is the Goat overall. Serial second place in my opinion
@@Sotman.how in the hell could maru be the goat ? He has never had a positive winrate against Serral. Serral spent more time ranked number one. Maru struggles to win premier tournaments outside of gsl, serral has the most out of all players. Serral has been world champion twice, maru none. Almost every time serral and maru meet in tournaments, especially recently, maru looses.
Winter said it in the video : serral has the best winrate by far, the only thing bringing him down is zvz , but thats not his weakness, thats all zergs. That goes for reynor and dark as well. And serral is statistically also the best zvz player.
@popkhorne5372 serral has negative Winrate vs most good zergs. For some reason he always loses from Raynor or Clem. Does that mean they are better than him? No. Maru loses to serral, but that doesn't make him worse. Maru has been dominating way longer than Serral. Most pros call Maru the Goat. Serral had times that he looked weak for months

Of the other 20%, you're too young for 10-15% of them as well. 😁
@@okachobe1 Yeah, in the stone age. But even in antoquity people lived at least until their fifties if they didn't die in child birth or war. The average age graphs get really screwed up once you have a bunch of kids dying at only a few months or years old as was usual for the longest time.
Age is a mindset my friend. Bodies a machine - stop moving, you start to collect rust and feel old. Keep moving and you can be 60 feeling better than those 20s who spend all day wallowing about how life sucks
@@okachobe1I don't think this is true across the board in every age in every place ever. During famines in Ireland the lifespan was smaller. And that's modernity. During medieval I'm sure there was more food than there is in North Korea right now. Malnutrition kills.
We improved in our understanding of nutrition so we have less deaths in the 50's/60's. Living to 50 or 60 just wasn't uncommon for most of Europe's history.
I wish Serral would do the Reynor thing and start off-racing before all the Serral nerfs to Zerg start rolling in.

Figuring serral is like trying to not drown in the middle of the ocean. Once you cross a certain threshhold its too late and you know its coming.
Game one reminds me of the GSL finals where Rogue swiftly and efficiently manhandled Maru with roaches, winning either 4-0 or 4-1.

You said something about doing "first person casts" I like that idea a lot, I personally feel like I would only watch zerg first person casts, because that's what I played, and is my favorite race, but I'm sure a lot of people would love to watch their main races first person casts

Beautiful to see how Serral has taken the Erik build to full perfection, adding different variations on top of it, and leaving even pros like Maru utterly dumbfounded how to deal with this.

I just realized that Protoss is the only race that doesn't have a shutdown mechanic that works on DPS unit. Zerg has cloud and fungal, Terran can do disruption and EMP, and Protoss can....make domes.

Fun exhibition match idea for a video: Two pros but they can't use their keyboards AT ALL. I think it would be very educational because it slows down their physical skill; purely demonstrates their tactical skill. Also shows how much of their skill is connected to their physical muscle memory.

Game two was crazy, I can't see how any other zerg would not fold to the constant medivac drop and pickup abuse, game perfectly displayed the shere speed of Maru when he's in stimpack mode and yet, Serral was even faster and always a step ahead. By the time Maru finally had some damage racking up, well, Serral had done even more on his side of the map. Truely a legend this Serral, has anyone else gotten a race nerfed so many times and so many different units? And yet, I wouldn't be surprised if it happens again, he won't stop till he, Dark and Reynor are the only Zerg in GM. 😂
The bonus game is a solid plan Winter, keep it up. Serral really is on another level man, you gotta hand it to him. The dude really is just that good. He makes Maru look like a regular old GM player, not the pretty clear number one Terran player in the game today.

I'm going to take this opportunity to randomly explain why I subscribe to your channel: Back in the day, I grew to like TotalBiscuit's SC2 content. Well, that guy passed away (RIP), and left me with an unfulfilled appetite for some SC2 content. The problem was, and is, that I don't like most SC2 casters, the style is just wrong to me. I'm not sure how to explain it but I'm going to say I prefer a solo, personal, educational, laid back, whimsical, focused, professional style. On point, with expertise, with no talk shows, inside jokes included. Back then I decided to search for one channel that would provide me with such SC2 content, and I found yours. Up to this day, you continue making videos that I like.
Hey Winter! maybe showing a top rankers/"highscores" table at the beginning of your casts could make it more interesting as we would have more context on current abilities of the players :P, I know you mention that some times, but a table might be cool?

A few years ago I tried to gather all the top casters and make a modded versus mode tournament but things fell thru.
I'd love to watch you cast a game with top talent try their hand at commander mode or other wonky modes. I think the fans would love it.

maybe for the eyes of the pro do a segment or fight instead of the whole match. That way you can slow it down and get in the nitty gritty of all the details. Even at half or 0.25 speed will make a 10-15min video for that ad time.
For first person analysis videos you might want to slow down the replay speed so us mere mortals can keep up.
Always love your casting your honestly the only caster i watch regularly. But also loving that shirt!!
i think in an effort to try to cast thru the eyes of the pro you could try slowing the replay speed to something like 90% to where the game gives you more of time to explain as the micro is happening. and i think you should mix in replaying the micro and important like bits of the game watch them from the pro perspective and then switch and cast normally showing the effect of that micro or macro. i think tiny things like that and the replay speed could make the game a bit more watchable from a viewer perspective.

I think at this point, it'd be easier for Maru to learn zerg and play it against Serral when there's a tournament that allows switching races (I know GSL doesn't) than for Maru to try and beat Serral in a TvZ.
What is the observer interface? It looks different to WCS 3.0 and Pro2020
Custom interface I had made, I like seeing the resources mined and the income differences in actual numbers (in addition to some other tweaks)
I think it's cool seeing the perspectives of the players but yeah it can be a bit disorientating when they spam camera movements and such. It also kinda sucks you can't fully see their mouse, like you can see the pings from the clicks but not the movement
92% win rate is absurd, especially considering second best is so much lower. Just 8% more, and it's like Serral doesn't even acknowledge terran exists...

Maru gets destroyed by Serral, almost every time. What is his winrate against him? 85%? 90%?

In one series something like a year ago, one comment illustrated the complete destruction perfectly:

Maru is a great player against almost everybody - but against Serral he is just "fresh meat" that gets butchered.
If the people at Blizzard somehow envisioned an ideal Zerg play style, Serral is surely executing it 1:1

It could be a typo, but with it following charisma I expect it isn’t. English is a bastard language with words from all over brought into it so I expect he is using the word Amor which means love in another language(can’t remember which one)
