- Easy and really effective Ikea LACK makeover to achieve a beautiful farmhouse style coffee table.
I got this table (free!) from Facebook Marketplace, and I used Earthborn's EcoChic clay paint in the colour Woodsmoke to paint the base and the shelf. Then I got two whitewashed oak effect furniture panels from B&Q and attached them to the top of the table using GripFill adhesive and Gorilla wood glue. I finished off the painted base with Frenchic Finishing Coat to protect it from scuffs and that was it!
You can support Holly's Design via Buy Me A Coffee, so I can spend more money on new paint colours and sandpaper and crazy bits of furniture (not coffee).

Holly's Design was born out of a love for beautiful interiors and beautiful furniture. Having worked in interior design for several years, I saw the value in traditional, well made furniture that is built to last, over our increasingly throw away culture. When my partner and I bought our first house it was empty! Without the budget or the inclination for a massive shopping spree, I started updating old pieces that were kindly gifted to us, and finding pieces on their way to the tip that I could renovate. I loved upcycling them to suit our style, and I got so addicted I had to start selling my work to make room! And so Holly's Design was born! I hope you enjoy being a part of the journey, and thank you for watching and supporting my little venture. - Jak na to + styl
I appreciate knowing you did this project inside. I often watch people to DIY projects outside or in their garage but I live in an apartment so this is encouraging!
Oh yeah go for it! I’d recommend using some old sheets or something to cover stuff while you’re sanding, that’s the messiest bit. I do almost all my painting inside and I use paper plates under the feet of my pieces, or bits of cardboard boxes. Thanks so much for watching 😁 and happy flipping!!
Paper plates - brilliant! :D
They are! So handy!
That was a nice idea, the simplest ideas are the best.
Thanks so much!! Really appreciate the comment.
Oh my goodness thank you SO much for sharing. I'm new to this stuff but your video is easy to follow and approachable. Thank you ♥️

Looks top dollar with the new wood top. Love it 🌷

This is such an awesome idea. And it turned out amazing. Thanks so much for the inspiration, I have a similar table and I'm looking to diy an upgrade. This is a great idea.

Thank you! I’ve got some more pieces coming soon, and a couple more IKEA Hacks in the pipeline!
I think you did a very nice job.
Thank you Paul!
Light materials but works very well
Hi! I really love this video. Thank you very much for sharing. Where did you purchase the wooden slabs from and what were the dimensions? Thanks!
Hi, thank you so much! I got them from B&Q, they are washed oak effect furniture panels: 120cm long x 40cm wide x 2cm thick. Hope this helps, and thanks for your comment!
Oh may do this brought the side table in white but looking to turn it grey french oak to match our TV unit
Ah awesome! Thanks for watching 🥰
Cute table! Don’t you end up with sanding dust all over your living room? I do hand sanding and I end with dust inside of electronics. 😂
Thanks so much! Haha yeah I’ve done some sanding inside a couple of times (in my cane chair upcycle video too!) and never again, dust everywhere!

what are furniture panels? Are they at home depot?
Hi! They are wood or wood effect panels that are used for building custom furniture. It looks like there are spruce panel boards available from Home Depot that would probably work! I got mine from B&Q in the UK.
Hello, what are the dimensions of the boards? and what series? THANKS
Hi! The boards are just furniture panels that I picked up from the hardware store. Mine are from Wickes, and then I cut them to size. Thanks for watching!
hello, what size of the top table?
Hi! It’s 55cm square. Thanks so much for watching!
