The way I did it was not necessary. I wanted to have a little fun in the day and I really enjoyed it.

I always use nylog blue on my flare joints! Also I’m glad you are thinking about getting away from the staybrite 8 braze is the way to go… can’t trust that stuff with pressures of refrigerant and it’s just more tedious b/c you have to prep it like solder

Chigo built original unit... still have 2 of those remaining in my house (under the grunaire name).. from 2008.. i can bet the pipe near the compresser discharge cracked... soon to be one left standing in my house.. I had 3.. 2 still work but one started leaking a slow leak so a Fujitsu is on order for it.. whyd you guys stop doing fujitsu? id be an upset customer if I got a daikin isntead of a fuji.. Daikin VRV is top notch but their single zone mini's im not a huge fan.. Fuji anyday.. Nevertheless regardless of the unit.. your guys' Install is Top notch!! way to go!

We were told it was recommended to add a little vacuum pump oil to the flare thread before attempting to tighten the fitting. The tools you’re using are awesome!
I was always told vacuum pump oil should only be used for Vaccuum pumps, as it’s not save for refrigerant systems.
@@DCHVAC just use oil. You’re only using a half a drop for lubrication for improved flare forming. I’m sure you’re not going to dilute the system oil charge that much.
Nylog? They recommend that.
the issue is vacuum pump oil sits on truvks and picks up miniscule amounts of moisture being opened and clsoed. when thats mixed with POE oil that minute amoount of moisture creates acid and ive seen the destruction moisture has done to the refrigerant system.
@@DCHVAC but, if you use vacuum pump oil when seating the flares and then pull a vacuum, wouldn’t the excess oil/moisture be sucked out of the system? Is this where Nylog would out perform and do better? Please explain. I’m not an hvac expert, I like following and learning, understanding. My other question, if you used POE oil that was opened and closed, wouldn’t you have the same issue as vacuum pump oil?
Helps to cycle those valves a couple times during evac, they'll actually trap a little air in the ball

Awesome Thanks! I’ll be using it in the future as a lubricant on the threads for more torque before friction, and the bottom side of the flair to prevent spinning.
Yes its compatible but if you are using that torque wrench maybe you have to apply more torque than usual

Get yourself some strain relief connectors for your com wire,they are cheap and much better than just sticking the wire through that hole.
Without oiling the flares, eventually they'll leak, I always cut them off and braze them. Also, carrying the unit up the ladder like that is not good...one day you'll either drop it or do your back in. Just hire a genie lift and do it safely :)
A good flare shouldn’t leak if torqued properly, that’s what the torque spec is for…
However if you want to get technical any mechanical seal leaks minutely at all times just not enough to make an impact.
@@DCHVAC so why do you use nylog then then? You weren't sure if it was compatible with R32 so you squeaked them on. Using oil is ancient tech, but so is the wheel.
i use nylog on the threads itself as a lubricant to be able to tighten it more freely, and prior to working for pipe doctor i hadnt used torque wrenches, so a little nylog on the back side of the fare where the nut presses prevented spinning and ripping the flare when overtightening
@@DCHVAC That's my point, you didn't spend 30 secs looking up on the internet if it was compatible with R32 and made all your flares dry....which is why they'll eventually leak and you probably twisted the pipe when you torqued them up. It was a nice looking job, i'm not saying you don't take pride in your work, but the little things add up over time....like one day you'll drop a unit carrying it up a ladder...you wouldn't get away with that working for me and I reckon if you think about it, it's probably not something you should be doing.
Consider installing a plastic pipe in the wall for pipes to pass thru. Cause spiders or scorpions or other bugs could pass thru interwall and come into room behind AC.
They put a leak lock on the face of the flare !!!

Nice install! one quick question I was just wondering if the staybrite 8 joints you had leak were joints between a swaged connection or if they were joints from like the lineset and a manufactured fitting. I have used it a few times and I felt it was very intolerant of gaps that would be no issue at all with brazing .
They were joints at filter driers, and at unit connections. We just braze now, staybrite 8 works for some people just not for me.
In case of split ACs you should leave at least 10 cm / 4 inch space between ceiling and indoor unit, and 10-15 cm / 4 to 6 inches space between wall and outdoor unit. :*
Manual specified less than 2” is acceptable.

@@DCHVAC I'm not a/c guy, but I've spent over 40 years working on ladders. One of the most important safety rules when climbing is *_3-point contact_* all the time. Now I'll be the first to admit I don't always follow that rule, but I'd never pull a stunt like trying to carry a 90 lb bulky item up that ladder. That's just asking for serious injury. Please be careful.

2:57 hey Daniel ever notice the gasket material filling the hole for the communication wire is the same stuff on the nipple.
Defiantly not the same material. The nipple had a tacky opaque gray substance on it. The wiring had a hardened gelatinous translucent t gray/tan substance.

Its funny because when i commented on that solder you used that it seems to be weak on Mikeys channel he said that its safe to use.I don't know what regulations you have in the US but here in europe when using r410a lines must be tested at 42 bars equals to 609 psi.
It’s more of a vibration and expansion/contraction issue than pressure. Sheer pressure it’s rated much higher than a brazed joint.

Doesn’t matter what temp u set remote that doesn’t change anything. And max fan speed.
I have the BlueVac+ Pro micron gauge with the true blue hose kit they have a proprietary app.

Clearance is 2 inches specified in the manual, I am well above. Closer to 4 or 5

Aside from the pros & cons of these ductless systems vs window units, HOAs and some local zoning regulations already prohibit window units - supposedly because they're unsightly. Are you aware of any restrictions on these ductless units?

I love StayBrite 8. You have to get the pipe connections clean and use the flux sparingly. Also, you don’t want any large gaps because the solder flows thin and has trouble filling the gaps. In my opinion, StayBrite 8 is easier to use than silver brazing rod and makes very reliable connections. I installed my HVAC equipment in 2020 using StayBrite 8 and absolutely no leaks so far.
Yup, soldering is a different animal than brazing. If you attempt to fill any gaps with solder it will crack.
I think staybrite 8 has its purposes. But I stand by brazing at this point.

id never install anything thats 115, its cheap garbage at that point and you take a big hit on effeciency

Depends on the unit, some cheaper models are 120v, but the more efficient and better built units are 240v
Can you use Staybright 8 instead of using the flares or brazing? And would you not have to use nitrogen? Different question I know…*just finished watching* I see you would not recommend it after all.
We use the flares, manufactures do not allow other connections to be made.

What is the minimum line set length on that unit? I did an LG and they wanted at least 9 feet I think. Mitsubishi doesn't have a minimum. I think Daikin is the same as LG. Good job guys. It good to see young guys out there doing good work!

it matters a great deal for the life of the compressor with oil return and with liquid refrigerant making its way back to the compressor. SUPER Super important
@@DCHVAC So would you put a loop in the line set behind the OD unit to have enough length if there wouldn't be otherwise? Would a loop cause a problem with oil not returning to the compressor?
@@johnmiller102 manufacturers recommend putting the loop in.
Nylog should be fine, 410 is made up of r32 & r125.
Nylog should be fine with R32 because R410a is 50% R32.
The sealant looks like leaklock to me.
For Staybrite8 I only use it on the evap coil, I just feel there’s far too much pressure and vibrations going on with the condenser side, so I always have brazing done there. Otherwise I’ve been using it for about 3 years now and have had no leaks.
Oldest unit I used StayBrite 8 on was in 2010 on both the evap and the condenser. It's still going and never had a leak.
I think the vibrations, and expansion and contraction are what kill the joints.
@@TofuInc StayBrite 8 cannot handle the pressures and keep a leak free seal. Nobody uses that product on 410a or newer systems. Even on an evaporator, you will end up leaking. I don't know of a single HVAC company using that product anymore. Sil-fos 8 is pretty much the main product besides press fit systems.
@@Balticblue93 I've seen it used more in the past couple years than ever before. It wouldn't be my first choice but I think it's a lot stronger than people give it credit. The joints have to be clean and tight. I personally have done some joints with it that seen over 900psi. I don't think pressure is the issue with it.
couldn't you installed both units at the same height? It looks really crap that one's higher than the other, it'd really bother me if this would be on my house...
They’re different sized units, and we will be replacing the other unit in due time.
I mounted it where I did in order to cover up the holes from the old bracket, and reuse the holes already drilled into the house.
Regardless, the customer doesn’t care, they’re very old.

Rent a material lift, way cheaper than workmans comp and being out of commission. Hate being the employee in those positions.
I had many options to get it up there, I chose this one to have a little fun in the day and scare my family who watches. If I had any doubt of capability (if that even matters) I would’ve done it another way

410 is better than r32 at least for now because most places you can’t get r32 I ran into that issue last week I had to put in an r32 unit and needed to add refrigerant because of the lineset length couldn’t find r32 anywhere locally and I told the customer I can’t start it up until I get the refrigerant which I had to order online and wait 2 weeks for it to come
We have a stock of R32, we’re installing them because that’s the next priority residential refrigerant. We’re getting ahead of the curve.
@@DCHVAC I would do the same if I could get the refrigerant locally I can’t even get it to stockpile it because all of the local distributors are saying they are unable to get it
theres been back and forth with manufacturing due to the laws tryng to be changed by the EPA. they wanted to mandate all new refrigerant be sold in reusable recovery cylinders, but the law was struck down by congress. the tank we have is in a reusable cylinder but im not sure what will end up being the norm...
Need to come up with better way than one person bringing u it up ladder. Violates all ladder safety.
