I’ve listened to this every day as it describes how I often feel and try to keep faith in God that I will see better days. To me this poem is about grief except for the last line which is about hope.
Our way of life, and Western identity, is under serious siege. As a Italian American it's clear our foundation is under attack, from Plato to Thomas Paine.
That is your advice to an exile in the Anglo-Saxon era? I think you're overestimating his options friend! Without a lord (a 'ring giver') to support him - financially and with allies - his life would have been grim indeed.
