- We recently did a Top 5 on our Perception vs. Reality Podcast and the Don Johnson Gold Palm was the #1 CRAZIEST BOWLING ACCESSORY EVER! I'm going to try to bowl with it using Purple Hammer, Rhino Pro Teal and Paragon Pearl and see what it's all about!
What's the craziest bowling accessory you've ever used or seen? Comment below! I'll be doing more of these videos as I come across wacky stuff!

A guy on my Friday night league uses a modern version of this. It's called the Storm Power Glove Plus. Instead of a plastic wedge, it uses pads that can be swapped in and out depending on the size you want.
That could actually make a comeback for people who don't use thumbs! đ
Takes me down memory lane, I had this, probably still laying around somewhere. Same idea as the gloves with a pad in the palm, basically it fills up the space in the palm of your hand, it was comfortable and it works well enough, crazy as it may look.
That glove actually goes back to the early 70's. I never saw anyone use this as a kid back then, only photos of Don Johnson himself in his book Inside Bowling. I do remember, however, another bowling accessory he made in the early 80's that was put on the index finger. It was plastic and had a couple Velcro straps to secure it. I can't remember what it was called, but my high school bowling friends and I called it the "nose picker"! đđ€Łđ€Ł
Right on Nick! I was hoping you'd review this bad boy. Well after watching it WTH! You know they sold a bunch of these things. I don't remember those at least I never saw them at our local houses. Thanks
I had one similar to that back in the 70's!
best review ever! I've never even seen one of these things in my entire life!
Speaking of feeling the ball, and the inventions that are out there for bowling, I wish some one some way some how bring back the Don Carter glove. I loved it. Storm has something in that line, but does not have a pad to place in the middle of the palm.
I have one of these autographed by DJ and is still in the package...
Cool video talk tech bowling bowling glove Brunsnick
The Kinetic Controller was the thing I had to have as a kid.
Oh wow I need one of those. đ€Ł
Ebonite used to have a glove with a type of wedged palm pad in it . I loved it back in the day
I know this is a little late for a comment, but, I really donât see how that glove does anything. Lol. But I would like to see you investigate a gadget that they used to have out years ago if you could find it. It was called the kinetic controller Came in red, it had a couple of soft pads that you placed in certain areas so it wouldnât hurt your hand. I had the Proto type which was all foam. When I threw the foam one, it actually brought my track higher because of the way it rested on my hand, the pinky finger elevated the ball which brought the ball up and the track. Back in the day, it brought my average up significantly. made my forearm a little sore, but thatâs only because I was using it. Lol. Let me know if you come across this. I bowl two handed and one-handed for my spares. I could sure use it again for my one-handed spares. Take care.
There's a few of these on Ebay right now
Been wondering when you were going to release this video! Now Iâm curious how it will work with a two hander? Packy your turn! đ
When the ten pin's a-rockin', don't come a-knockin'.
THAT WAS AWESOME OF COURSE I DO REMEMBER IT BECAUSE I'M OLD........LOL
That looks money to me! đ„đ„đ„
0:51 waiting for this, about 1966. Wow that didnât look just like Nick.
OMG, Those approaches!
We need to hire a porter.
Iâve never been a fan of gloves. I like to feel the ball in my hand. I recently gave a buddy a glove that reminded me more of a golf glove. I believe it was made by storm. I never threw more than a few shots with it. And I believe it cost me about thirty bucks đ. I guess thereâs no substitute for a proper fit and putting practice in. But I watched the whole video.
Interesting and cool video
Price of the product if it was released this year would put it around $60-75.
Crazy looking I think I would have trouble getting used to it
A guy in our league uses an aid that I think is called "Steel Fingers". If you could get that and try it that would be cool as I often wondered how effective it is.
That was in the top 5 as well, though not sure how itâll work with Sarge grip.
You have to stretch your grip about 1/2 inch, add under to your fingers, right to your thumb, and 1/2 reverse. And those fingers better be tight. Now put that glove on, put your hand in your Manhattan rubber, fill the place with lucky Strike cigarette smoke, and WALLAH! You have the feel of the era.
Perfect. đ€Łđ€Ł (Iâll respectfully pass though)
â@@brunsnick Fair enough. I implied historic accuracy, not enjoyability.
I still have my dad's Manhattan rubber ball from the early 60's!
Wish they remade this good training tool
Green Bay Packers Glove
The Gold Palm made Don Johnson a boat load of $$$$ 1970-1973.
Hopefully he got some of the residuals from this sale too. đ€Ł
I actually use the storm power plus glove and like it. Been bowling better since going to it. Have a plate in my wrist so I have to wear a glove to help
Maybe the horseshoe design optimizes luck closest to the ball where it matters most... They didn't have all this amazing ball tech back then... Luck was their best bet, lol.
I love it. đ€Ł
By the way, I think the DJ glove is a great glove to experiment with.
Where are they sold
Theyâre 50 years old, theyâre not sold anymore. Maybe eBay.
Storm had something like that out a year or 2 ago
What was it called?
Powerglove. Still available...
Where do you find this stuff?
eBay sometimes
What is all that grime on the approach
Trail leg toe dragging when they bowl. Some shoes leave a residue.
Where to buy
I found mine on eBay. They are no longer made.
Storm makes something similar
Whatâs with all the scuff marks on the approaches
White approaches, some shoes leave marks.
The package showed a price of $3.99, I guess in 1970. Today's dollars would be $31.41????
Inflation is crazy like that but yes, sounds right!
@@brunsnick Thanks for taking the time to reply. Much appreciated.
Storm already has this and its better
This glove pre dates storm by 20-30 years.
@@brunsnick that's a crazy tool if it was back in the day. The power glove plus is pretty good you should grab you one for a review. I used it without the pads because it was just a really nice glove on its own
Canât do it. Sorry.
How about the Johnny Petraglia finger device for the index finger ?
That looks money to me! đ„đ„đ„
