1960 Ford Ranchero “Coca-Cola” edition by AMT - Episode 20

- Today on the WorkBench,
I am going to assemble the 1960 Ford Ranchero from AMT. This was a fun and easy build that went together really easy. The only problem that I had with this kit was the extra long steel axles. The one piece chassis was very easy to detail paint. The interior, although light on detail turned out very well.
The kit, overall, had near zero flash, and there were a few mold lines to clean up but overall this kit was a snap to paint and assemble. This is the first AMT kit in a while that didn’t require some sort of warp adjustment which was very refreshing.
Overall, I recommend this kit for those of you that want a relaxing, easy build.

I believe that you're correct. This kit does have a bunch of accessories that could be used in a diorama or with another build. Great price, by the way.

I've Got this kit. I had a 60 Ranchero in 90-92 I was going to Hot Rod the 144 ci in 6 & Add Mustang 5 speed to it Also Wanted to out the Mini Lebanon front clip on the Car. It would've got 50 MPG highway

@@toddmeader2362 Thank You! I have been working with foil going on 23 years now. Started working with it not long after it hit the market. As I have gotten older my eyes have gotten weaker for close up work as well. I have resorted to using a magnifier visor thing. It definitely helps especially when I have been at it for a few hours. The 1960 Rancheros were basic cars with minimal trim. As more time passed, more trim was offered. Strut braces dominated the engine bay. To bad AMT couldn't mold these in and offer Ford's only engine, a straight six.
I agree. My grandfather had a 1960 Falcon, which this Ranchero was based from. His had an inline 6 with a manual transmission. I don't remember a whole bunch about the car because I was just a wee lad but I remember that it was a two door and it was black. He had that car until the day he died. I cannot understand why AMT decided to go with the V8 engine for this kit. A V8 was available after the 62 model year. Maybe AMT was trying to make it into a hot rod car? Don't know.... I can't explain it... It would have been nice to have the option between the I6 or the V8 though. Thanks for watching!

I enjoyed this Ranchero video and I want to try the Dagonfly Glaze. Hobby Lobby has FolkArt Dragonfly in 6 colors. Which one did you use ? Thanks
I'm glad that you enjoyed this video. I have every color of the Dragonfly glaze that they sell. On this particular build I use the Red-Violet-Blue. This glaze works over almost any color. I airbrush it on at about 25 psi, #5 tip and thinned at about (I never actually measure it) 60-40 ratio. Just like when using craft paint, to the consistency of milk.

Model kits from companies like AMT, MPC, Revell etc. are generally made from injection molded polystyrene plastic.
