  • Today I’m building this Coca-Cola sponsored 1980 Dodge RAM D50 by AMT. This build has a special twist to it that I know that you’ll enjoy! I stayed away from building this in the Coke livery and went on to build a hot little pickup truck.
    This kit went together really well with a few exceptions. For the bulk of those you will have to watch the end of the video but there is one that I forgot to mention in the video. After I got everything together I found that the back of the hood would fall into the engine compartment. To fix this I added a small strip of styrene just under the cowl to give the hood something to ride on.
    I hope that you enjoyed watching this video as much as I did building the kit.

      Thank You! While I was painting I noticed all of this paint going everywhere. It took a few seconds to realize that the can was leaking out of the top. Turned out pretty nice though.

      Thanks! This is a pretty versatile kit. It doesn't have to be built just in the Coke version! Go get one and have fun with it! Thanks for watching!

      Thank You! I'm glad that this video has given birth to some inspiration for you! I wasn't 100% sure in the beginning that the 440 would fit at all, but with some slight modification it dropped right into place. Good Luck with your build! Thanks for watching and for the sub!

    Love the way this came out! What paints are you using in your builds ?

    • @scaleautoguysworkbench

      Thanks! On this particular build I used Touch N Tone gray primer and Krylon Purple Foil Metallic for the body. For the running boards and the front air dam, I used Krylon gloss black. All the rest of the paints used were a mix of acrylic craft paints and Testors bottle paints. Thanks for asking!

    What kind of primer do you usually use for these?
    I tried using Rustoleum car primer on a kit once and the primer job came out very rough in texture.

      I use a brand called Touch N Tone. It can be found at Tractor Supply, Family Farm and Home, Walmart and a few other places. This primer always lays down flat and dries to the touch pretty fast. I always wait at least 24 hours before I topcoat just to be on the safe side. I rarely use Rustoleum paints especially if they have the 2X label on them as I have never had good enough luck to lay down a good paint job using them, with the rare exception of the Red, Blue and Bronze Chrome paints. Those go on like butter...

      @@scaleautoguysworkbench thanks, just got some ordered. Your cars always have such a fantastic finish so I just had to know what primer you were using.
      I started my current project before I asked this question, and I went with some Testors enamel primer; it went on smooth but it still feels a little tacky, even 4 or 5 days after the last coat, and the acrylic paints don't seem to like to grab it as much as I'd like. We shall see.

      @scaleautoguysworkbench  Před 6 měsíci +1

      @@yaboitucktuck5952 Testors enamel paints are good but one of the downsides is the extended dry times. As I mentioned before, the Touch 'N Tone gray primer dries to the touch pretty fast, usually about 20-30 minutes but I let it fully gas out for about 24 hours or so before I apply any topcoat. I haven't had any problems with either acrylic craft paint or spray can paint adhering to it. I haven't experienced any issues with it with styrene or resin bodies and parts. Overall, I think it's a pretty decent primer. Good luck!
