According to Hindus, consciousness is reflective. Our external world is perceived by our senses, and the information is reflected in our consciousness. This means that the external is not real, the mirror of our consciousness is only real. Our minds are also reflected in this consciousness, and our bodies. It is like a face in the mirror, the face is not real, it is a reflection. Consciousness itself is pure, but gets contracted by names and forms which we perceive as 'reality'. They say this is true in relative sense, but in absolute sense only the pure consciousness is real.

The universe evolves into a state where living beings (for example, with brains) appear that fulfill the condition for the emergent quality of consciousness in those beings to appear. They may then ask: what is all this? And, to what purpose? Well, they can learn more and more what it is, if they may survive collectively. And, they can subscribe to what purpose, while they are alive individually.

Sue Blackmore made a name for herself trying to prove that consciousness is a byproduct of neuronal activity ( epiphenomenalism). This is an easy, almost lazy position to take, from the point of view of traditional science which is materialist reductionist. Large amounts of evidence from different fields are pointing to a non material reality as the reality underlying material reality. That's becoming more evident even if not clear ( in the sense that we understand it). Consider advances in the philosophy of science today - monistic idealism as in Kastrup or Goswami or Hoffman or Sheldrake. Fiercely contested, of course, by traditionalists as you would expect including widespread ad hominem attacks without attention to the fine points of the ongoing debate about the nature of Deep Reality. All this unreasonableness and lack of respectful debate is to be expected as one paradigm starts to die angrily, giving way to a better paradigm, slowly and painfully.

I agree. That was Ayn Rand's conclusion. In this view, consciousness is defined as a process. Causation/interaction itself is an act of "observation". This is born out in the quantum where particles are essentially undefined unless some interaction takes place. This solves the hard problem of consciousness by making consciousness (rudimentary causal "awareness") a fundamental principle of reality. Human consciousness would be something like recursive causation. It's simply what happens when enough microscopic causal agents are arranged in the right way. The same basic pattern of action/reaction is present in atoms all the way up to humans.

there may be different levels of consciousness. On the experiment with the twin slit of particles hitting with random distribution unless observed by a consciou being/agent, it seems that the particles have observed that an observer was observing them and thus align themselves according to the consciousness that is observing inclination. How those particles knew what the observer's inclination was is another question. So, here was an example of a possible consciousness on a particle made up of just one electron making a decision or reaction based on whether there was an observer or not. The whole universe/s is made up of these very same particles and thus conscious as well? We have now found out that our brain makes a decision even before we make ours and this makes free will a big conundrum. It does look like consciousness as well see it is determined somewhere else different from our own deciding mind. Here we can surmise that our consciousness is separate from our brain. Perhaps our consciouness is but a part of the big consciousness field where we get bits and pieces depending on our tendencies.

I ask myself could it be possible that all of existence has no meaning and always the answer is no. But the concept of meaning itself is a non-physical reality that we recognize. VV Raman is echoing one of the interpretations of the thought contained in the Vedanta philosophy which seems to point at a kind of absolute monism where consciousness is all that exists. Even matter is only consciousness in this view; and no, there is no God in the sense of a supreme conscious personality, only a (personality-less) consciousness that is devoid of all attributes. This view which is often presented as the dominant Hindu view regarding reality I consider to be a misinterpretation.
In reality, Hindu philosophy, the best glimpse of which is obtained in texts such as the Bhagavad Gita, talks about two ontological categories with essential characteristics that are mutually exclusive :
    1. Prakrti (primordial matter): unconscious, dead substance.
    2. Purusa (conscious personality).
The distinction between these two entities is fundamental and persists eternally.
God is the supreme purusa, the supremely conscious pure personality that brings prakrti and purusa together. Therefore, once the investigator discovers matter and once he discovers (individual) consciousness within the material body, then the existence of God is inferred, as the supreme principle that binds together these two entities.

Spirit is the essence of consciousness, the energy of the Universe that creates all things.
Each one of us is a part of that Spirit Energy - a Divine Entity. So the Spirit is the Higher Self, the Eternal Being that lives within us.
Form is the physical world: body, mind, personality. We as spiritual beings created the physical world as a place to learn. We're here to learn how to master the process of creation - to learn how to consciously channel the creative energy of spirit into physical form.
    HOW CONSCIOUNESS CREATES REALITY?
    If God is Reality
    And if Reality Is Consciousness
    Then God Is Consciousness
I Think therefore I Am God Consciousness
The whole universe is one reality which is pure consciousness.
    Pure consciousness is absolute existence.
God makes things through the direct act of becoming the things which He creates. In the beginning the One differentiated into the many. The One entered into the many and became the Self of each. The being within everything is the One. When you merge with this nonlocal Self, you become one with the Self of all that exists. The One is the Higher Self of all. You are the One.
The God Spirit In Me Is The Same God Spirit In You, And The Spirit Of All Beings. Enlightenment Is The realization That You Are All Part Of The Universal Spirit Of All That Exists, Which Is GOD.
Each of us is the universal spirit projecting a particular point of view.
My Self is inseparable from all that exists, just as your self is inseparable from all that exists.
You are an aspect of Infinite Intelligence, and Infinite Intelligence is the source of all that exists. Therefore you are the source of all that exists and you create your own experience. Everything is possible because everything exists within you. The same unbounded potential of the Infinite Spirit also resides in each and every one of us.
Everything in the universe is consciousness. Space and time in all planes of reality are only projections within universal consciousness. There really is no here or there for everything is at one place where Mind is. Mind does not move at all. Mind simply is (Not to be confused with the brain). Mind is everywhere yet nowhere. Mind is nowhere but Here, Now. We are all existing together as a singularity in one place and time. Everything is one, Here and Now.
Your soul is the reflection of all souls. You are the Other. Without the other, you would not exist. You are defined by your relationships with others. You would need to describe the whole universe in order to define a single person. Therefore every single person is the whole universe. Your soul is both personal and universal at the same time. Everyone is a reflection of yourself. You are in a hall of mirrors where every reflection of yourself appears different. Others you admire reflect the qualities you most cherish in yourself. Others you detest reflect the qualities you most deny in yourself. Each person you see is a different version of you.
The outer world is a mirror of yourself at any place and time. If you want to know the state of your personal consciousness, just look around and see what is happening to you. If you want to know the state of the collective consciousness, just look around at what is happening in the world. Your personal reality is synchronistically orchestrated by your sense of Self at all times. If a critical mass of people expressed their higher selves, they would cause a transformation in collective consciousness and the world reality. Every time a person rises in personal consciousness, he moves the state of the world towards a higher one than before.
TRANSCENDENT WORLD: You are comfortable here when you can experience all possibilities. Your awareness is open. You are connected to the source. Your consciousness is merged with the mind of God.
SUBTLE WORLD: You are comfortable here when you can hold on to your vision. You trust yourself to follow where the mind goes. You aren't bound up in resistance, objections, skepticism, and rigid beliefs. Inspiration occurs as a normal part of your existence.
MATERIAL WORLD: You are comfortable with your personal reality. You take responsibility for it. You read the world as a reflection of who you are and what is happening "in here." As the reflection shifts and changes, you track the changes occurring inside yourself.
If a white man was created by God,
And if a black man was created by God,
Black and white men are equal before God.
    If God is reality,
    And if reality is consciousness,
    Then God is consciousness
The Need to Create, Discover, and Explore.
God becomes a creative source. He gave us our birthright of curiosity. He remains unknowable, but he unfolds one secret after another in creation. At the far edge of the universe, the unknown is a challenge and a source of wonder. God wants us not to worship but to evolve. Our role is to discover and explore. Nature exists to provide endless mysteries that challenge our intelligence - there is always more to discover.
This is your God if you live to explore and be creative, if you feel happiest confronting the unknown, if you have total confidence that nature can be unraveled, including human nature, as long as we keep questioning and never settle for fixed, preordained truth.
God becomes pure wonder. After reason has reached the limits of understanding, the mystery remains. Sages, saints, and the divinely inspired have penetrated it. They have felt a divine presence that transcends everyday life. Materialism is an illusion. Creation was fashioned in two layers, the visible and the invisible. Miracles become real when everything is a miracle. To reach God, one must accept the reality of invisible things. Nature is a mask for the divine.
This is your God if you are a spiritual seeker. You want to know what lies behind the mask of materialism, to find the source of healing, to experience peace, and to be in direct contact with a divine presence.
Unity, the State Beyond All Needs.
God becomes One. There is complete fulfillment because you have reached the goal of seeking. You experience the divine everywhere. The last hint of separation has vanished. You have no need to divide saint from sinner, because God imbues everything. In this state, you don't know the truth; you become it. The universe and every event in it are expressions of a single underlying Being, which is pure awareness, pure intelligence, and pure creativity. Nature is the outward form that consciousness takes as it unfolds in time and space.
This is your God if you feel totally connected to your soul and your source. Your consciousness has expanded to embrace a cosmic perspective. You see everything happening in the mind of God. The ecstasy of great mystics, who seem especially gifted or chosen, now becomes available to you, because you have fully matured spiritually.
The God that brings the scheme to an end, God as One, is different from the others. He isn't a projection. He signifies a state of total certainty and wonder, and if you reach that state, you are no longer projecting. Every need has been fulfilled; the path has ended with reality itself.

Consciousness is due to network of neurones in the brain just like circuits in TV or radios. When these circuits are accurate we are conscious of surrounding because our senses or our brain energy connects with energy surrounding every where. When these circuits are disturbed the conscious level is disturbed and with extreme disturbance we become unconscious. The same way when circuits in TV or radio are disturbed they don't give sound or picture. If disturbance is too much these devices become dead. This a simplified way to explain consciousness. Relation to God can also be explained. Go is not a human being or any creature we can imagine but it is either collective energy present every where or it is behind that energy in some form which at this stage we don't know. All that energy around us or in universe according to string theory is in fact appear as matter as well as energy alternatively. So all he matter which we see is in fact energy in different form. God has left he universe to run by that energy which may be dark energy in a systematic way. Every hing in universe is interconnected. Every thing in universe has part of ha energy and when some one is conscious he can utilise his energy to mobilise surrounding energy in his favour that is called force of mind or Yogga or in islam prayers. This is all matter of focusing your energy to mobilise surrounding energy which normally may be in you favour or some time against. That is why some time things happen to harm you and some time in your favour but if you focus your energy or consciousness you can mobilise those forces in your favour to the extent you do effort.

Imagination - Process of Pure Creation
The process of creation starts with thought
    - an idea, conception, visualization. Everything you see was once someone's idea. Nothing exists in your world that did not first exist as pure thought.
This is true of the universe as well.
Thought is the first level of creation.
Next comes the word. Everything you say is a thought expressed. It is creative and sends forth creative energy into the universe. Words are more dynamic (thus, some might say more creative) than thought, because words are a different level of vibration from thought. They disrupt (change, alter, affect) the universe with greater impact.
Words are the second level of creation.
    Next comes action.
Actions are words moving. Words are thoughts expressed. Thoughts are ideas formed. Ideas are energies come together. Energies are forces released. Forces are elements existent. Elements are particles of God, portions of ALL, the stuff of everything.
The beginning is God. The end is action. Action is God creating - or God experienced.
Hang on. There's one thing more I have to tell you. You are always seeing what by your terms you would define as the "past," even when you are looking at what is right in front of you.
    I am?
It is impossible to see The Present. The Present "happens," then turns into a burst of light, formed by energy dispersing, and that light reaches your receptors, your eyes, and it takes time for it to do that.
All the while the light is reaching you, life is going on, moving forward. The next event is happening while the light from the last event is reaching you.
The energy burst reaches your eyes, your receptors send that signal to your brain, which interprets the data and tells you what you are seeing. Yet that is not what is now in front of you at all. It is what you think you are seeing. That is, you are thinking about what you have seen, telling yourself what it is, and deciding what you are going to call it, while what is happening "now" is preceding your process, and awaiting it.
To put this simply, I am always one step ahead of you.
    My God, this is unbelievable.
Now listen. The more distance you place between your Self and the physical location of any event, the further into the "past" that event recedes. Place yourself a few light-years back, and what you are looking at happened very, very long ago, indeed.
Yet it did not happen "long ago." It is merely physical distance which has created the illusion of "time," and allowed you to experience your Self as being both "here, now" all the while you are being "there, then"!
One day you will see that what you call time and space are the same thing.
Then you will see that everything is happening right here, right now.
This is....this is....wild. I mean, I don't know what to make of all this.
When you understand what I have told you, you will understand that nothing you see is real. You are seeing the image of what was once an event, yet even that image, that energy burst, is something you are interpreting. Your personal interpretation of that image is called your image-ination.
And you can use your imagination to create anything. Because - and here is the greatest secret of all - your image-ination works both ways.
    Please?
You not only interpret energy, you create it. Imagination is a function of your mind, which is one-third of your three-part being. In your mind you image something, and it begins to take physical form. The longer you image it (and the more OF you who image it), the more physical that form becomes, until the increasing energy you have given it literally bursts into light, flashing an image of itself into what you call your reality.
You then "see" the image, and once again decide what it is. Thus, the cycle continues. This is what I have called The Process.
This is what YOU ARE. You ARE this Process.
This is what I have meant when I have said, you are both the Creator and the Created.
I have now brought it all together for you. We are concluding this dialogue, and I have explained to you the mechanics of the universe, the secret of all life.
    Okay.
Now as energy coalesced, it becomes, as I said, very concentrated. But the further one moves from the point of this concentration, the more dissipated the energy becomes. The "air becomes thinner." The aura fades. The energy never completely disappears, because it cannot. It is the stuff of which everything is made. It's All There Is. Yet it can become very, very thin, very subtle - almost "not there."
Then, in another place (read that, another part of Itself) it can again coalesce, once more "clumping together" to form what you call matter, and what "looks like" a discreet unit. Now the two units appear separate from each other, and in truth there is no separation at all.
This is, in very, very simple and elementary terms, the explanation behind the whole physical universe.
Wow. But can it be true? How do I know I haven't just made this all up?
Your scientists are already discovering that the building blocks of all of life are the same.
They brought back rocks from the moon and found the same stuff they find in trees. They take apart a tree and find the same stuff they find in you.
I tell you this: We are all the same stuff. (I and the Father are One Energy)
We are the same energy, coalesced, compressed in different ways to create different forms and different matter.
Nothing "matters" in and of itself. That is, nothing can become matter all by itself. Jesus said, "Without the Father, I am nothing." The Father of all is pure thought. This is the energy of life. This is what you have chosen to call Absolute Love.
This is the God and the Goddess, the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. It is the All-in-All, the Unmoved Mover, the Prime Source. It is that which you have sought to understand from the beginning of time. The Great Mystery, the Endless Enigma, the Eternal Truth.
There is only One of Us, and so, it is THAT WHICH YOU ARE.

The blending or raising of one's consciousness involves the shearing away of ego-identity., meaning that only the essence of refined awareness is uploaded when joined with "god."
That's why sleep is the perfect metaphor., when asleep most individuals remain oblivious to their identity while their life still carries on.

I personally view it as "we" or all of consciousness broken up throughout individual threads of light-essence, working its way up through the life stages of mineral, vegetable and animal.
I came to these conclusions based off experiences I've had not only within my own being, but with family and friends.
Seeing something no other has ever described leaving my father's chest seconds after his final breath along with my experiences tells me "we" are not these bodies, nor their genders, families or cultures.
All life has consciousness comprised of the same material which inhabits a cage that allows it to interface with these bodies to animate their lives.
"He" is now his own great-grandson and that is speaking only of one unique experience among many.
Of course only recently have I discovered the Upanishads and Vedas., but since I try not to corrupt or influence my own contemplative style, I've exposed myself to very little of it.
I see science and religion as the blind children of philosophy.
If you start questioning existence within yourself while speaking of past lives since age 5., you might be not like the others., even though every character/awareness is unique.
So., "we" are all prisoners born of "god's" conception.
      Which leaves me to ask.,
      Who are I parents?

Please, dear psychologist Ms. Sue, consciousness is no more a mystery as you think. There is a lot of things we don't know, it is true, but consciousness is no more a mystery. Please!
Every single moment the heart pumps the blood to the brain, the mind concocts consciousness which harbors the will and makes a representation of the world to the individual. In the will we have desire governed by reason. In the representation we have memories.
Consciousness is a function of the frequency of the fields over the heart, the cardiac output, and the entropy. Any individual who lacks one of these three things will lose consciousness. When your heart enters into fibrillation, you have a cardiac arrest and you lose consciousness and die. If the volume of the blood decrease, you faint and if the entropy steps out of its limits, you lose consciousness (sleep).
Consciousness is fundamental. And we have three levels of consciousness available. The higher consciousness, what we call God emanates from the immaterial realm and permeates and pervades everything in the material realm. In humans, the higher consciousness is manifested as medium consciousness. Everything below humans is lower consciousness.
And consciousness is as discrete and continuous as light is particles and waves. It comes to us discrete but expresses itself continuously.

Observing a moving car on the road we may conclude that the car is conscious. The car seem conscious in avoiding any accidents, conscious in staying on the foad, conscious in observing the road signs, conscious in where it going. Who is making the car seems to be conscious? THE DRIVER. If the driver leaves the the car, the car may still be 'alived' but UNCONSCIOUS. Thus when we are asleep, we are still alive but temperorily unconscious. We die in our sleep if our 'consciousness' fail to return to our body. Our consciousness is our 'soul' and is deteched from our body. When we die our body rot and return to the soil but our soul live on with a new body in a new dimension.

A lot of people are not too sensitive to the issue that materialism and deconstruction...all of science...is based on reason, but reason seems to be without foundations. Immanuel Kant explored the lack of foundations for reason in "Critique of Pure Reason". Noting that Kant had raised a good point efforts were made by others to find some foundations. Betrand Russell, with evolution in mind, was able to show that all, or at least most maths, could be founded on some simple mental operations, simple enough that they might not have needed much to evolve. For instance "add 1 and then do that again and again" gets all the whole numbers and a whole lot more and then a relatively simple mental ability to make sets gets you even more.
However it was F. Nietzsche, following on Kant, who suspected that if reason is based on simple mental abilities that were evolved then there's not reason to think them accurate in any capital T Truth sense, it's merely pragmatic and could very likely be far from a capital T Truth if any such Truth existed.
Going back to Kant, he made the assertion that our minds, in pursuing maths and science, show us how our brain is already wired and we fit all observations into that cuz we have no choice but to. Unless by some really freakish chance our brains/minds are wired to get things right, or Truth with a capital T, we are permanently groping in the dark, maybe getting some things right and some things wrong which we think are right. Moving ahead to Neitzsche he likened scientific inquiry to a blind man firing a shotgun into the air when he hears some birds, occasionally shooting one, and then declaring he's right.

Kant claimed, and I find his claim compelling, that our mind does not reveal anything about the natural world that it's design does not allow and in thinking and studying the natural world we only discover how the mind is designed. That does not suggest we should give up or anything like that but it should introduce some humility.
