Your application and expertise in this matter were professional, thorough, and educational, JOB WELL DONE. I showed my technicians who are starting to run aerial drops now as we mostly doe underground, HH/MH from splice closures the ease of installations this process makes and Major don'ts with regards to OSHA and electrical code standards that they're now training for. Thank you! The only thing I'd have to say is we run 2 techs at a job site like this when the height of ladder is extended past 20ft or more on poles.
Hey man, I really appreciate the comment. I try my best. Regarding the two techs, I am an independent contractor, and while I do hire out when in need. I have over 10 years of ladder handling experience. So I am pretty confident running solo.
@@FyBurz You're welcome! Yea I'd say it depends on the company's policy. As we tend to go on roofs and towers as well. Anything that could or would potentially happen we ensure the safety with guidance from a lead tech/installer.

For sure I did roofing 1 year up in the mid Michigan Area and anything at 30°F you bet you're but you're working. I did a lot of repairs as a sub contractor. My lifeline was always a large sponge from a couch cushion. I trusted that thing more than anything. The scary jobs were always the metal roofs though in my opinion 😅
I made it easy for my fiber installer I knew I would not be continuing with my cable or DSL service so I spent the time removing a garbage cable service box and drop.
@@BIGB-wc6vr yeah, mandatory for mandatory sake doesn’t work here because techs just go off of their own judgement whenever I see a pole that’s not in good condition or in questionable state I test it and I also voltage test my poles. sometimes it’s a slight risk but the jobs gotta get done, that being said I’ve definitely rejected jobs due to unsafe poles. This post specifically was reported and replaced.

So I get this a lot from other techs. I don’t use it backwards. I initially push the drop through the right way then I pull back to complete the strip. So I start at the cutoff end of the drop then push until I need to and then back. I’ve found this to be the most successful way to strip the flat drop and I can get about 30 strips in maybe more before have to to switch the blades around. Lots of other guys I know will start with the strippers down the drop where they want to finish and pull out towards the cutoff. Or strip down then take it off and do it again. All of which is slow and inefficient.
Been a contractor tv/phone/hsd copper installs for about 7 years gonna start doing fiber on the side with a buddy who's contracting just running drops only until I get hang of it eventually start doing installs too any tips?
Make sure that your splicer is dry depending on your area. Splicers do not like being wet at all and that you have profiles set on your splicer for both climate, humidity, and season! 2nd tip leave enough service loop and slack like this pro! He did a wonderful job verbally communicating the ugliness of what improper installation and non-code/ regulations are while showing how it's done. 3rd document everything. The biggest issue out in the field are techs that would brush off unsafe, or improper installs or code violations and leaving it for the next guy! Safety is a big priority! If you feel unsafe do not risk it. Fail the job if need be and report it to your direct superior to get it addressed immediately.
There are varies different tipes of taps, MST, or HMFOC, Splice Closures, that being said try to familiarize yourself with what you'll be working with MPT/MST are the more simpler application as they reduce the amount of splicing needed for install but as you saw if done improperly it could end up being messy if done improper. It's also a good key note that to think just enough is never enough. ie, if you need a foot give yourself 3-5ft or more for safe measure depending on your application. The other thing to note is if you're using a pedestal or handhole/manhole application that the NID or demarcation box won't always be in the same location where other media closures are. I didn't see a patch cable run to the interior but depending on the type of cable used majority SC/APC OS2 or if they outfit pigtail to pigtail connections to a wall plate/coupler fashion or a direct hole with a bunge that taking the necessary "TIME" to ensure your install is clean is something that you must give yourself.
Man , I wish we used MPT/MST’s instead of splice closures. Hard to believe when you use such a simple system techs would run the drops like shit and still make it sloppy.
Also our cable aren't pre made don't have the conectors on the ends to just easily connect on top how yours do so I'll have to do all that in the air and cut place a end etc
@@FyBurz Yup showed up on my buddy's job was just giving me the basics he was pretty much opening the box striping the wire the drop cable was a really thin one still new don't know the wording for it but he was cleving placing the connector doing all that while up in the air not like yours where you just climb up and connect our box he had to open loop the wire inside and connect etc
@@xLEGNx sounds like AFL. Interesting that they don’t have a connector on the ends. I deal with some AFL stuff. The drop is flat but the end looks like the stripped fiber and it has a green sc/apc connector on it. The only reason I can think of why it doesn’t have a pre-made end is because he’s pulling off a large spool where he makes cuts at whatever length he wants.
@@FyBurz yup that's how he told me the company does it just a spool of cable no pre-made ends for the drops only thing that's pre-made from what he said was the line going in to the home for the install techs seems like a little bit of a pain other thing he also showed me not like regular cable where they have pretty much 1 tap every poll with fiber they only have 1 to feed every 12 house fiber is new in the area so sometimes he would tell me he hits 4-7 polls before he hits the house I mean the pay is alright but he tells me he tries to aim at most 3 houses a day lol

If you think that's messy then that's nothing compared here in the Philippines where wires and cables are like spaghetti wires anywhere even in posh subdivisions. You can Google telephone cables in the Philippines for images.
@@FyBurzall telephone lines here in the capital region I'm living are now fiber optic but the old copper telephone cable lines are still hanging here. Last November the electric company cut off all internet, telephone and cable TV lines in one section of my hometown. It took a month to replace all cables and drop wires but they never removed those that were cut off and abandoned.
@@FyBurz Fair enough. I'm an installer on the island. We're expected to run missing drops like this, but don't get extra time. Likely why a lot of drops you see are poorly done and not code. It's terrible system. Your videos are very insightful. Thanks for your clean work, helps a lot at house side.

Hmm interesting, are they AFL drops ? These are Corning optitaps. You have to splice into fosc cases ? (Black cans up on the strand)
