Well, the point of the video is sort of to tell you why, not just give a list
God bless you
You are correct Scotty. GM does not build a transmission worth a crap anymore. The old Turbo Hydramatic 350 and 400 transmissions were built tough, and when they wore out you could rebuild them with better clutch bands and parts than what came out of the factory and you are good to go. I had a 1978 Buick Electra Park Avenue that had 420,000 miles on the 350/350 engine transmission pairing that was never rebuilt and it still ran great when I sold it for 100 dollars. What the heck has happened? Quality has gone down the shithouse completely.
I drove a rogue as rental and it sucked

My friend's BMW X5 power steering warning light comes on and off. The dealer replaced the module for $3,000. It didn't solve the problem. The problem then said it was due to her driving "profile": the car wasn't driven often enough and that causes the battery to dissipate, hence the power steering warning light. Hard to believe. Yes, it seems like a money pit.

I bought my wife a Land Rover LR2 a little over a decade ago, and while she loved the vehicle and it never really gave us much trouble while we had it, once the warranty lapsed, just the routine services priced us out of keeping it. It was ridiculous.
Scott is simply a mastermind in cars...all he has been preaching for such a long time now is so right....unfortunately for myself, I can give you more or less the exact same advice like Scotty after throwing more than 100k in buying a few of these cars and trying to maintain them properly which is simply unobtainable not just because of the cost of the parts but because brand new original parts are still of the same low quality
I’m convinced at this point that nothing is reliable and I should start looking for an original 1942 Porsche Tiger Tank.

Just yesterday I saw it getting towed to the dealership which is not in my town. The day before that two mechanics had been working on it and I saw that they had taken the battery out. He always told me the best luxury cars to buy were Acura and Lexus. Nothing else. He said they hold there value so well and never break down. Told me Land Rover and German cars may seem luxury, but that they are so unreliable, the computers and electronics break all the time, and they loose so much value so fast! He still right tho. Land rovers are shite
I sold cars for two years, we hated to see Land Rovers come in for trade ins. The owners would get so mad when we gave them a trade in price. Trust me, no car make depreciates quicker in value than a Land Rover.
Jaguar more. Here in Europe you can have one for 1000 dollar. No one buys them
Mercades: "Am I a joke to you?"
BMW: 😂😂😂
All luxury complicated cars depreciate like stones ! In past paid by companies - now leasing seems to have taken over - some great lease bargains if looked after properly
You sold second hand cars? Well you’re an honest person then eh. We all know how to trust the word of a ‘used car dealer’. 😂🤣😂🤣
you have to sell these model vehicles that Scotty just mention within a few years to make some kind of profit on it which still isn’t much as the value goes down. You might have a 2010 Chevy with low klm and only worth 3,500 resale value. You have a 2004 Toyota Corolla that have 320,000klm and can still get 4,000 for it.
I own a 2003 BMW X5. Awesome suv. Many BMW mechanics own this year of X5. When I ask my mechanic why he has one, her told me it's because it's the last year before they started adding a bunch of tech that is designed to break down in order to make repair sales and keep BMW owners incentivised to trade in for the latest model.

Old land rovers are perfectly fine IF they’ve been properly maintained. Obviously you can’t control whether the previous owner did proper regular maintenance. But if you do find a good one it will last forever, especially the diesels, v8s not so much.
Newer ones aren’t too great I’ve heard but never seen or worked on them to know. I reckon it’s probably electrical crap and not mechanical as is the failure with most modern cars
Thanks for both this video and the one on comparing RAV4 and CR-V over the years. Can you do a similar one where you compare the Outlander and RAV4?

That 50 yr. old guy that bought the Land Rover for the 20 yr. old girlfriend, reminds me of the old saying...….. "If it has tits or wheels on it = lots of $$$"
Land Rover are the worst for reliability perioid might as well buy a Chrysler there is no difference huge electronic problems and the mechanical parts are not much better.
just because Americans cant fix Land Rovers it doesnt make them all bad. Freelander's are solid. First gen Range Rover Sport are miles better than Merc/BMW/Audi. Discovery 3 with a petrol V8 will run forever, too. Evoque is good, too. Upper models and past 2013 models can be expensive to run after warranty, but hey, if you buy the most versitile vehicle in its class with the original sticker price over 100k what do you expect? Its not a toyota, it actually goes, stoppes and is safe and comfortable.

Hey, am one of your subscribers! Love your explanations can tell that youre a real mechanic. I've been a real mechanic so to speak most of my life. And also not a master I may say, but Blacksmith. Make things to last you might say.! I've been criticized multiple times through my life about having so many vehicles. The funny thing is when someone needs a car or a truck including myself or other family members, there's always one of these that starts up runs and does the job. Won't go into details about the types and brand names. But you probably know the same types that are good quality. I will mention there is a specific diesel, A 12 valve, that has been tremendously reliable for me. Have two of them a 1990 and a 1992. Take very good care of them, however will hold them floored to clean them out periodically. If they blow you just fix them, however haven't blown one yet. As well as several other vehicles. It is so refreshing to see a real mechanic out there. However there are many other good ones. It's very inspiring for this old dog. Keep up the great work! Stay well enjoy your family and love ones, and have a beautiful day. Jim

I've got an 06 durango with the 4.7 V8. The quarters suffer from pretty bad cancer on em, but with 260,000+ miles, the drive train and chassis are still solid. Another plus is it has a box frame.

You can feel it as he says it
6. Nissan Rogue
5. Chevrolet Equinox
4. Dodge Journey
3. Volkswagen Tiguan
2. BMW X-series
1. Jaguar / Land Rover
Thank you for furnishing the list.
At 3.55 he says Chevy Equinox owners liked them when they were nude lol!! Listen to it
Dodge Journey rather
Nik Radaev Way to listen and type 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I had very good luck with our first Dodge Journey. It was a 2013 with the 3.6 liter V6.
We bought another Dodge Journey GT with the 3.6 liter V6.
Never had a problem and gets 28 mpg on the highway.
Plus it pulls our 18' in-board/out-board boat with no issues. Gas mileage does drop to 19 mpg towing at 75 mph.
I LOVE THIS! Thank you!
Thanks for being straightforward and honest, Scotty! ✌🏻
Basically don’t buy anything unless it’s a 10 year old Honda or Toyota. 🙄
😂😂😂😂😂😂right
This guy hating and embarrassing the business what a snitch he got fired and raged 😂
You're just mad because you probably have a Land Rover 🤣 I trust a mechanic over anybody else
Ford...
I mean Japanese cars are the most reliable cars right now
I used to work for a BMW body shop. One of the estimators there told me, "there's nothing more expensive, than a cheap German car"
I was told" there is nothing in life more expensive, then a cheap Mercedes-Benz" that statement is 100% correct
@@willisix2554 That will depend on the year, model and maintenance each individual car has had. In Germany, many taxi companies still use Mercs - and they wouldn't do that if total costs of ownership flew in their face.
@@notroll1279 you're right about maintenance without knowing about the maintenance of the vehicle I'd never buy one, and I own two!
@@willisix2554 I used to own a 1992 Merc 190 E 1.8 as a daily driver for 12 years and I've got a 1993 SL 320 as a fine weather car for 15 years now.
I had no problems with the 190 at all and the worst thing I had with the SL was a head gasket needing replacement. Sure, an SL is less zippy than a Porsche but even an SL engine is mass produced for use in several other product lines and generally easy to access and to work. Living in Germany with lots of knowledgeable independent mechanics around and with a good supply of spares helps, too.
@@notroll1279 Mercedes diesels are very reliable. in Israel Mercedes are #1 taxi cars. skodas second. all diesels.
I’ve had a 2006 lr3 since 2007 literally ZERO problems. Love it.
My 09 has 200k miles on it and zero problems, drive it everyday. It's been more reliable than my 4runner was.
Still good?
My wife has a 2014 dodge journey v6 RT AWD raly, knock on wood but its held up great so far. We bought it because we had two newborns and the journey had everything we wanted and more. its awesome for kids and comfortable on long road trips. We have 222k km and only had the oil cooler replaced on it, its never let us down and we come to trust it.
If they ever remake Back ll the Future he would make a great Doc Brown.
Funny, but his voice is annoying
If they ever remake back to the future I'll set the studio lot on fire 🔥
This comment is so amazing and so accurate.
Instead of a DeLorean he’ll have a Celica.
I think this every time I watch him 😂
I have owned a BMW X3 for 5 years, and I officially have put in the exact amount of money in repairs; as the price I bought the vehicle at. Please avoid at all costs.
Woah...thats crazy
@Shelik Hodge 2010, don't get me wrong, I love this car a lot, but just expect to put in $5,000-10,000 in repairs.
@Shelik Hodge further details.
I purchased it in 2017 at $9,200. I only use it for mostly in town use, occasionally making the 3 hours drive to visit family, and it has gone on one 800 mile (roundtrip) road trip.
I have put roughly $8,000 alone in regular maintenance.
The oil leaks are really rough (as he said in the video), not just a few drops, but there will be a pool of oil on the ground typically, I always joke "hey, I don't need an oil change ever if im constantly leaking and just refilling it constantly".
but also what he said about the electronic sensors is the most accurate, these parts break rapidly, and are extremely expensive.
I bought a 2008 X3 6 years ago with 90k miles on it. I did my research on it. 3.0 Inline 6 is pretty bullet proof and it’s not turbo so you don’t have to worry about that going wrong. It has over 150k miles now and all I’ve done to it was coils and valve cover gasket, less than $1000 total repairs. Been a pretty sweet ride. But we are going to get a 4Runner once my tundras paid off, I like knowing that my car will last forever lol.
My advise too if you have a bmw or want one, learn to do the repairs yourself and the cost is a lot more manageable. The stealer ship is where they get your money!
Dude, you're full of it. I put more than 160,000 miles on my Nisssan Rogue and never once had to visit a mechanic. Same thing with the Chevy Cruze, which you said in a different video that was a car that would never last for 100,000 miles. My wife's Cruze passed the 100k mile mark and was running perfectly when we sold it.
He is right about the X3. I had a Roomate who owned one and one day on her way home from work the car flipped over and hit another car. She was arrested for a DUI, but said the X3 just wouldn’t respond to her turning the steering wheel. 🤣🤣
Damn pieces of junk!!
He always sounds like he’s about to pass out
😅🤣😂😝
Noah G heart attack waiting to happen
It’s a shame he wouldn’t.
Why is that?!😂😩😂😩
Rest in peace ✌️ 😊😂🤣

2003 Camry...still going
@@apt62 I had a 2008 Scion xd, reliable loved it. I have a 2018 Civic now. So I feel pretty at ease with my Cars.
My Nissan Rogue is very boring, but super reliable with it being close to 4 yrs old with 100k miles
Dad’s friend has 300k miles from his 99 4runner commuting from florida to georgia every few weeks
I don’t know I agree with your list but one is missing.. the Ford Escape I worked at a ford dealer and the recall parts list on them was the longest I ever seen and the shop always full of them.
I remember when I had my first beer.
Lmao
And you pissed your pants.
Guy is smashed
WELL I DONT IM ONLY 9!!
Truth hurts...... shame!
Congrats to everyone who anxiously watched this but whose SUV was not mentioned.
Toyota
That wouldn't be me and my LR! 😉
Luckily me. I'm a proud Toyota owner
Knew he'd never say anything bad about mine. Have the same gen 4runner as Scotty and I know how much he loves that thing lol
What is a good mid size S UV for a family that you recommend because I keep seeing your videos of the worst ones
i h ave a 2017 equinox and it is running good have 39,000 miles on it so hoping everything will continue to run perfectly
I imagine this guy smashes a 5th of liquor and goes "welp, time to do a video."
I think he did do that
He seems like a Tequila guy
Slow it down to 0.5x speed and you don't have to imagine it.
Jonathan Woods lol
@@Doonie310 I was thinking Vodka lmao.
