    You are correct Scotty. GM does not build a transmission worth a crap anymore. The old Turbo Hydramatic 350 and 400 transmissions were built tough,and when they wore out you could rebuild them with better clutch bands and parts than what came out of the factory and you are good to go. I had a 1978 Buick Electra Park Avenue that had 420,000 miles on the 350/350 engine transmission pairing that was never rebuilt and it still ran great when I sold it for 100 dollars. What the heck has happened? Quality has gone down the shithouse completely.

    My friend's BMW X5 power steering warning light comes on and off. The dealer replaced the module for $3,000. It didn't solve the problem. The problem then said it was due to her driving "profile": the car wasn't driven often enough and that causes the battery to dissipate, hence the power steering warning light. Hard to believe. Yes, it seems like a money pit.

Just yesterday I saw it getting towed to the dealership which is not in my town. The day before that two mechanics had been working on it and I saw that they had taken the battery out. They looked pretty puzzled. As far as I can tell, the car is not starting. It hurt me coz I was thinking of purchasing an Old RR like that in the future. Bubble burst 🤲🏻

He always told me the best luxury cars to buy were Acura and Lexus. Nothing else. He said they hold there value so well and never break down. Told me Land Rover and German cars may seem luxury, but that they are so unreliable, the computers and electronics break all the time, and they loose so much value so fast! Old land rovers are perfectly fine IF they’ve been properly maintained. Obviously you can’t control whether the previous owner did proper regular maintenance. But if you do find a good one it will last forever, especially the diesels, v8s not so much.
    Newer ones aren’t too great I’ve heard but never seen or worked on them to know. I reckon it’s probably electrical crap and not mechanical as is the failure with most modern cars

Discovery 3 with a petrol V8 will run forever, too. Evoque is good, too. Upper models and past 2013 models can be expensive to run after warranty, but hey, if you buy the most versitile vehicle in its class with the original sticker price over 100k what do you expect? Hey, am one of your subscribers! Love your explanations can tell that youre a real mechanic. I've been a real mechanic so to speak most of my life. And also not a master I may say, but Blacksmith. Make things to last you might say.! I've been criticized multiple times through my life about having so many vehicles. The funny thing is when someone needs a car or a truck including myself or other family members, there's always one of these that starts up runs and does the job. Won't go into details about the types and brand names. But you probably know the same types that are good quality. I will mention there is a specific diesel, A 12 valve, that has been tremendously reliable for me. Have two of them a 1990 and a 1992. Take very good care of them, however will hold them floored to clean them out periodically. If they blow you just fix them, however haven't blown one yet. As well as several other vehicles. It is so refreshing to see a real mechanic out there. However there are many other good ones. It's very inspiring for this old dog. Keep up the great work! Stay well enjoy your family and love ones, and have a beautiful day. Jim

      @@willisix2554 I used to own a 1992 Merc 190 E 1.8 as a daily driver for 12 years and I've got a 1993 SL 320 as a fine weather car for 15 years now.
      I had no problems with the 190 at all and the worst thing I had with the SL was a head gasket needing replacement. Sure, an SL is less zippy than a Porsche but even an SL engine is mass produced for use in several other product lines and generally easy to access and to work. Living in Germany with lots of knowledgeable independent mechanics around and with a good supply of spares helps, too.

    My wife has a 2014 dodge journey v6 RT AWD raly, knock on wood but its held up great so far. We bought it because we had two newborns and the journey had everything we wanted and more. its awesome for kids and comfortable on long road trips. We have 222k km and only had the oil cooler replaced on it, its never let us down and we come to trust it.

    • @JT-bm8tq
      @JT-bm8tq Před 2 lety +5

      @Shelik Hodge further details.
      I purchased it in 2017 at $9,200. I only use it for mostly in town use, occasionally making the 3 hours drive to visit family, and it has gone on one 800 mile (roundtrip) road trip.
      I have put roughly $8,000 alone in regular maintenance.
      The oil leaks are really rough (as he said in the video), not just a few drops, but there will be a pool of oil on the ground typically, I always joke "hey, I don't need an oil change ever if im constantly leaking and just refilling it constantly".
      but also what he said about the electronic sensors is the most accurate, these parts break rapidly, and are extremely expensive.

      I bought a 2008 X3 6 years ago with 90k miles on it. I did my research on it. 3.0 Inline 6 is pretty bullet proof and it’s not turbo so you don’t have to worry about that going wrong. It has over 150k miles now and all I’ve done to it was coils and valve cover gasket, less than $1000 total repairs. Been a pretty sweet ride. But we are going to get a 4Runner once my tundras paid off, I like knowing that my car will last forever lol.

    • @jaredthorp2361

      My advise too if you have a bmw or want one, learn to do the repairs yourself and the cost is a lot more manageable. The stealer ship is where they get your money!

    Dude, you're full of it. I put more than 160,000 miles on my Nisssan Rogue and never once had to visit a mechanic. Same thing with the Chevy Cruze, which you said in a different video that was a car that would never last for 100,000 miles. My wife's Cruze passed the 100k mile mark and was running perfectly when we sold it.
