- Russian forces have been reported to be withdrawing from the Vovchansk oblast, with the overall number of combat forces decreasing in the past 24 hours in noticeable numbers. Russian forces in this direction have been defeated on the battlefield. Meanwhile Israel is continuing to threaten an invasion of Southern Lebanon, it appears an invasion is highly certain at this point. Russian forces still take heavy losses in Avdiivka and Bakhmut, while not gaining any significatn amounts of ground.

The russians needed far more than 80k troops to encircle, or even seriously threaten, the city of Kharkiv. Based on past russian performances at places like Sievrodonetsk, Bakhmut and Avdiivka, the russians would have needed half a million or more troops.
The facility at Yeysk that was hit was to the west of the main airfield, it was a SAM training center, which had recently received Tor-systems...

The big difference was hitting targets across the border there troops could not be supported or supplied from behind the border finally Ukraine could turn defense into attack

The less troops putin has, the less he has to pay money too and aging tanks, less he has the less maintenance, or least no parts to maintain them so better to have them destroyed. the solution to the glide bombs is to go after the launching aircraft before they release..preferably on the ground. as a rule, every high performance aircraft spends more time in maintenance than in the air, and requires specialized tools and personnel. even if the aircraft isn't there, going after the tools and people has the same effect. eventually, the aircraft can't fly.
another solution is to find some wear part in the aircraft, and prevent the manufacture. something like an engine part that must be replaced after a certain number of hours. an ignition system, or a bearing. likely the factory is not thought of as that important, and will not be heavily guarded. or it will require some specialized material. like jet engines need nickel alloys to work..
by hitting further upstream from the actual target, it can have a broader impact. for example, you stop the engines being made for everything, not just the aircraft you're going after.

It's very close to the border, so building fortified areas would have been in range of artillery and air bombardment.

Russians don't seem to have this problem as they literally do this everytime they gain any ground... They fortify all the gains they make while Ukraine has spent little effort in building fortifications ..

If you look at the equipment destroyed by Ukraine when in use building Ruscist fortifications, you'll quadruple that if you try to build your own defence lines. On the Belarus border the Ukraine forces can work without bombardment. But looking at the very small area that the orcs have managed to take is very limited. Yes lots of destruction, but little ground. No said ground is being taken back. With massive orc losses.
