Hello to both of you. Your caterpillars are called Pyrales du Buis. There s a treatment. You should spray your hedges 4 times a year starting in April then May, July and August.... these caterpillars melt very well in the hedges as they are green. They are not easy to spot, when small. They give little greyish butterflies. I ve managed to preserve mine for 30 years so far. I ve got what we call a "dentelle de buis".
Oh Carole/Adrian you both have given me such pleasure over the spring/summer with all the work I’ve watched you both do in this chateau and oh this hall is absolutely stunning!!!! STUNNING!!!! I’m going to miss watching these videos when u sell this property!!! The gardens the lawn the walls u both cleaned up or out! The carriage doors those rooms the upstairs !!!!! I have just thoroughly enjoyed watching what a spectacular job u have allll done to make this an awesome CHATEAU THAT HAS FINALLY COMETO LIFE!!!!!! GORGEOUS SIMPLY GORGEOUS!!!!! From a dark, gloomy, sad hallway to an elegant, bright, welcoming hall suitable for a chateau’s entryway. You have an infestation of those caterpillars. Such damage from those nasty critters. The sconces are so pretty and the flooring too. The shades match the horse head lamp. The hallway looks amazing and once you find the Chandelier it will be even nicer ❤

The hallway looks stunning ! I recently went back and watched from the beginning again and WOW the transformation is crazy ! Looks like a completely different place! All that rotten wood and peeling paint - The hard work you both & others have put in in the last 3 years is outstanding ! You can really see the transformation! ❤️❤️. I had this type of moth on all of our box hedging ...Just sprayed and keeping my fingers crossed first I hosed all the bushes down and saw lots of caterpillar's drop down then sprayed each one ...Never had this problem till now ...Hall look's great

At Château la Grifferie, they had the same problem and there is a spray that you can spray on them to kill the caterpillars.

That last chandelier I was picturing the shades on it would bulk it out a bit.

Those caterpillars are called Box Moth and yess they attack boxwoods. We have them here in Eastern Canada.. Hopefully I can save my boxwoods.

The hall is looking very nice. Of course it’s your home and your choice, but personally I always prefer a lantern in the hall and chandeliers in the living rooms.

The hallway is a masterpiece just like the Grand Salon was! Carole and Adrian you are a formidable couple (in the nicest sense) when it comes to your talent, persistence, perfection, and application for the tasks of renovation in this grand Chateau de la Ferté. Loved the views of the Lake District thank you Bethany, I only had a quick visit to Ullswater on our way up to Scotland on our trip to the UK some years ago now. I would love to go back to visit Beatrix Potter’s Hilltop farm and the surrounding countryside there and Adrian you did a great job filling in for Bethany in the editing department. Carole your invasive caterpillar looks like one I discovered here in NZ as having blown here early 2022 and is now widespread in the upper North Island. It was suggested to me by my photos, as being an Army worm. I think mine was the tropical type and I removed all the caterpillars off the top of the soil of my potted Lemon tree. I believe they come out at night. Disposing of the caterpillars will stop them developing into moths to lay eggs and increase the problem.👏👌💖

Every time I see you slaving away with paint, I want yell, "get a sprayer"! Tape off the not-to-be-sprayed stuff and work it. I have sprayed many a hallway, full room, ceiling, doors, etc. SO much easier & faster. I also think the paint dries faster so if additional coats are needed, you know sooner.
The table you liked would be great with the chairs and horse lamp
The foyer looks absolutely beautiful with the sconces on! I can't wait for you to find a chandelier, it will be the finishing touch! Everything is coming along so nicely ❤😊
The table between those chairs (the one with the horse's head lamp) needs to be painted the same color as the chairs.
That table is only fit for the bin, don't worry!
The hall looks so lovely, all your hard work. The plainer chandelier you saw, there is one is a place near me, I was thinking how lovely that would be in the coach house or an outdoor covered space.
The amount of skill and talent that just seems to naturally flow from all three of you is amazing! Carole; your eye for artful composition always delights and amazes me! Adrian; you are so skilled and resourceful! I don’t ever doubt your eye for artful detail! It is no wonder your daughter is so talented and affable as well! These bloody caterpillars tried to kill my box hedge too. I gave the bastards several sprays with Bacillus thuringiensis ssp. kurstaki which you can buy at garden centers. That combined with a box hedge fertilizer made them come back. Don't cut them down. The problem is that now that these caterpillars have established themselves, this treatment will be necessary every year from now on. I am debating replacing the box with something else. It's such a damn shame. It was a beautiful hedge.
