- A review of the Benro 35c Tortoise Tripod with GX35 ball head. A tall and strong, lightweight, carbon-fibre tripod from Benro.
I love my old Manfrotto 055, it has been a fantastic workhorse, but the time has come for a new upgrade. Introducing the Benro 35C tortoise tripod.
It's a little shorter than the Manfrotto 055, a little cheaper, and a lot lighter. It also shoots a lot lower.
You can find it here on Amazon amzn.to/3lInr4R, or here on WEX, tidd.ly/3Z31FGG , for reasons discussed in the video and the more detailed blog post on my website (www.chrishomer.uk), I highly recommend WEX tidd.ly/3Z31FGG

Great review Chris, looks like a great bit of kit.
Great review Chris! Great tripod! Thanks Brother! 👊🏻
Thanks for the review. I just got my tortoise after watching this, but went for a 14C as wanted it a bit smaller. Its great!
Upgraded from a cheap smallrig. I wanted a compact travel tripod, but decided in the end I wanted no-nonsense and this is so simple.
The bag is a bit fancy!
Great review Chris, love Benro gear, used my mach3 for a couple of years now, can't fault it.

I’ll be doing more of this style of video in the future, thanks for all the feedback.
Nice one mate...👍👍 I have a couple of Benro travel tripods...can't fault them - top notch film as ever - T🙂
Bloody brilliant so far mate. Love it
Very good❤
The 055 goes low to the ground as well. Flip the center column horizontal. No problem there..
Hmmm. Not nearly as low though, surely
I got the ballhead only, but the plate "pu 56" isnt stiff at all. My L-bracket from smallrig is. Too bad.
Went for a Benro in the end then mate, decent ain’t they 👌🏼
So far so good. Did this video appear in your feed?
Tried to upload without the publish thing selected
@@chrishomer yeah but then it may be because a) I’m subscribed and b) watch most your vids
@@CraigPitts thanks. Hmmm. Maybe. Don’t trust it works like it should
Is that a 35c or 34c? I don't see 35c on your link.
35c, hmmm, might be a bit tricky on Amazon amzn.to/3lInr4R , worth double checking or looking elsewhere maybe.
I have an old (1980s) 055, the centre column of which splits or inverts.
I'm torn between the Tortoise and a second hand Gitzo Mountaineer. The Mountaineer is a little more expensive and doesn't have an ideal head. So is it worth it? Or is the Benro good?
Still using both, but prefer the Benro. I've used it ALOT since this video, and it has a done a fine job, and I regularly stick a Sony 200-600mm on there, a decent sized lens. Only issue that has developed is that the leg angle release buttons have started to show wear. Occasionally they miss the catch and I have to set it again, more deliberately. A minor issue, but sometimes annoying. Have probably done this easily 1000+ times though.
Love everything else about it, but still use the 055 too. Ha. Both great
@@chrishomer My 055 is an old aluminium one and weighs about 4kg, so it tends to stay at home. I've been finding I've regretted not having a tripod with me at times., I guess the Benro 35 is small enough to be backpackable which is an attractive feature.
The Gitzo is an older one with 3 leg sections so is a bit longer. A lovely tripod but £350 and I'd need to replace the head. That's why I'm torn though - a £1000 tripod for £350 albeit used. But do I need a £1000 tripod and would having something longer be a hindrance?
Horses for courses mate. £20k vintens when needed, cheap Benro for my CZcams and hiking stuff. Been spot on
@@chrishomer It's the compact low weight for hiking that's attracting me to this. The 24 is another option as it's even smaller and lighter - but low maximum height.
the 5 segments are good and bad at the same time.
Good for compactness and still sufficient hight but bad for quick handling for sure
Yeah. I reckon I’ve got surprisingly quick at them though. Can do them all at once from fully closed. I’m like a Benro ninja
I can not find this 35c model in my country. What is the main difference with 34c?
5 leg sections VS 4 leg sections. With the 5 being able to go higher, and fold down slightly lower.
@@chrishomer Thank you for the information. Can i also attach Benro S4pro video head to tripod for videography?
@@mordavian don’t know sorry
@@mordavian yes you can. in fact, that is my current setup
@@hungchieu780 thank you. What is the height of the tripod when it is full open? This is a photography tripod and I may need higher levels when shooting video.
300 quid for a trripod- thats a hard pass from me
max - £140 for a small rig travel tripod - all these carbon fibre ones are great if you have a disability and cant carry a bit of weight but lets face it , its pure snobbery for the most part.
If it does the job then great mate. I’m regularly around £20,000 Vintens and O Connor tripods. This Benro is cheap, not snobbery.
I found my smallrig was a bit unstable at times. I just got a tortoise. They're going for around £200-250 now and feels very stable.
