They don;t show the officers side of the story and people don't bother to think about what experience the officer has had in the past that shaped that split second decision that was apparently became "the worst possible scenario". I'm sure you all remember that semi-recent case where an officer shot somebody who was non-compliant and waiving around some sort of BB gun. 90% of the time those BB guns look real, especially when its dark outside and the nit-whit holding it is standing in the shadows. People called it the just a terrible abuse of power and the worst thing ever and crap like that and saying that the officer is a horrible person. No, the worst thing ever would be if the officer had assumed it was a fake gun and it turned out to be real. Then a lot of innocent people could have been seriously wounded or even killed. Wouldn't you agree that that would have been at least 10x worse than assuming that gun was real and detaining the potential threat? But the media overlooks this. It drives me crazy. Ironic isn't it? The media makes police everywhere look like devils but really the media are the ones raising hell. My husband was an officer for a time until he retired as our business took off and became profitable. he told me stories that sometimes being an officer of the law was one of the greatest, most fun jobs he has ever had. There were days he would come home still snickering from something that happened on duty and would get me laughing as he described it.
Those are the good times! They help you put the bad times in the back of your mind, though they will always be there. The fun times make being a cop tolerable.

where i live (the netherlands) social services will take away a child if the parents cannot provide for it. not saying it's ok in the us just saying i was suprised to learn there was a diffrent sistem.

I would bet that most officers who know these homeless children want nothing more than to pull them off the streets and take them into their homes, but it isn't so simple as that to do it, and honestly our orphanage and foster care programs are many times just as unhealthy and dangerous for children as living on the street.

i have been alive for 18 years (obviously not that long) and i have met only about 1 or 2 mean cops the rest were incredibly nice
