When I moved into my grandparents' place as a child, one of my fondest memories was watching TVB dramas with them. I didn't understand much of the plots, but the theme songs etched in my brain as I'd hum them to myself as I fell asleep. This song was the first of about 10 or so I'd sing every night, and I literally haven't heard it in over 30 years... It is almost exactly as I remembered it. Thanks for writing in the year of the drama, because for someone like me who can't read Chinese, that's the only way I was able find this song.

This is one of the many songs composed by Joseph Koo with the lyrics by James Wong. If you search these two names together, I am sure the ones you heard over 30 years ago would come up. These two guys formed a great combo and were pretty prolific. They, along with a few others, wrote all the theme songs for Wuxia TV series during the 80s and to me, the songs represent a unique music genre not heard elsewhere, not even in mainland China or Taiwan. People generally call them "Cantonpop" but the ones for Wuxia TV series like this one don't sound the same as the westernized Cantonpop and many Caontonpop at the time were cover of hit songs from Japan. Songs like this one have very Chinese feel to it even when the instruments might be western.

據男主呂良偉所說~原本是由他飾演苗人鳳，周潤發飾演胡一刀，劉德華飾演胡斐，但由於周潤發專心在電影，而劉德華正被無線冷凍，才改由呂良偉同時飾演胡一刀跟胡斐。
