Thank you everyone for watching this video! I hope that you and yours are staying safe. Make sure to check out the Description section for links to some of the products if you're looking for some last minute preps. I'm really glad to see so many Demolition Man fans! BTW, the "You are the resistance" reference was from Termination Salvation, although I've been told it's also an Infowars slogan too. Oops! Too funny. That guy sure is entertaining on the Joe Rogan Experience. FYI: You'll need to following flying regulations for using a drone. Lastly, I know that I'll need to shave my beard someday to properly use the respirator masks. I don't feel that we're at that point... yet. If you ever see me with a shaven beard, it will mean that SHTF has officially arrived! Stay safe everyone! ~Cliff

Been watching since 2014. I beg that you donate PPE to your local ER because healthcare workers are in desperate need! You can always stay home and fight it but they can’t stay home they have to go to work and fight it and now it’s adding stress that we have no more mask or gowns. The most honorable thing is to help the people in the front lines as best you can. My hospital gave us one single use disposable mask and said we must keep it on the time we step in and out of the building. We a hurting so bad

Some friendly tips: You can buy bread ready-to-bake, which comes sealed in a nitrogen atmosphere and can last for months on the shelf. 5 minutes in the oven and good to go. Of course, you can also freeze almost anything, including whole meals, but you forgot to mention fish (in case you're not a fan of meat) and also vegetables and certain fruits.
If you need alcohol and can't find any at your local store or pharmacy, you can use bio-ethanol. I don't know the regulations there in the US, but in Europe, burning fuel alcohol (for stoves) is the same we use as a disinfectant (denaturated 96º ethanol). There's also isopropyl alcohol, which electronics stores sell for cleaning circuits. It works just as well as ethanol. I purchased a 10L jug of bio-ethanol just for disinfecting, and since it was marketed as fuel, there was still plenty available, not to mention it was cheaper than store-bought rubbing alcohol.
While I don't recommend this, if you have a very limited supply of disposable N95 respirators, you can always recycle them. The virus lasts only a few days on a surface before becoming inactivated. If you have, say a box of 30, you can use one each day and keeping the used ones stored in a safe place (remember the virus's weaknesses are heat, dryness, and sunlight. So, don't store them in a cool, damp and dark place) and away from one another. Once you run out, reuse the first one, then the second, and so on. I would say a minimum of 2 weeks between each use to be on the safe side. Still, they are called disposable for a reason, but it's better than going out barefaced.
Another option is using UV disinfection. There are UV boxes professionals use to disinfect medical tools. Leave your disposable respirator inside for 1 hour to be on the safe side, then flip it and leave it for another hour.

@@melissakingery3545 Haha... I've never heard of someone saying that it helps filter additional stuff, like nose hair does. I haven't shaved my beard off either. Yeah, people panic and the first week or two you might see a lot of people rushing to the supermarket and emptying it, but afterward, the situation stabilizes. Supply chains will not be disrupted. Trucks still reach their destination and stores re-stock, eventually.

Yea, I’ve been at this since about 2009, right after the stock crash. Losing your job, 401K, and 99% of your savings gives you a real reality check. We still have a life, go out to eat a couple times a month, and save enough to go on a short vacay once a year, but you really rethink your priorities. $5-10 extra every shopping trip and in a couple months you have a pretty good initial pantry. One less dinner out per month and you can get a lot of the water storage, tools, communication, energy etc. pretty quickly. I feel good that I’m not “the crazy husband” anymore, and that my family is pretty good. It’s also shown me where I need to tighten up some gaps in my plan. Thx for the video.

70 % isopropanol for desinfecting gloves is what we use in a S3** lab. Do NOT use more than 80 % as that triggers a "defense mechanism" of certain bacteria - they start excreting a protective substance so they survive the strong alcohol. They don't do that at lower concentrations and thus die. It's like the frog sitting in boiling water.

About two years ago, I built a Solar Power Station on our Storage Shed. I run the power from the array into the house to a charge controller; to the battery; to a 600 Watt PURE Sine inverter. I have MANY Nickel-Metal Hydride AA & AAA rechargeable batteries I bought from Harbor Freight. This setup keeps batteries always at the ready for our Handheld Ham Radios, and our flashlights. The MAIN Battery is a 100 Amp Lithium Iron Phosphate brute that will run the entertainment center. I have a smaller 40 Amp Lithium Battery that runs my HF Ham Radio. We also heat with Kerosene and we have a Butane Camp Stove backup. We have heat, we can eat, and keep our home lit off-grid!

However, in the very short term as crises emerge, I've always thought well stocked peppers should steer clear of the shops.
Panic buying is ugly and we risk being part of the problem and contributing to shortages rather than the solution. Also, there is a safety issue too - supermarkets can be dangerous when people are desperate.
In any case - hope you and your folks ride out Covid and stay safe.
Irrespective of preps, remember to keep fit! Physical fitness is so important at times of crisis, as our immune systems are weakened if we are not moving.
All the best from the UK. Hope America can use this as an opportunity to revisit the structure and funding of their healthcare system. Never before in history has a nation paid so much money for such poor (average) health outcomes. That fact alone should cut right across political-party lines.

After making sure your family is safe (which most in this community already have) there are many at risk folks who cannot for their safety go out to grocery stores. Please consider donating extra food to those in need (many now can't afford food due to job loss as well). I will be donating the masks I bought a year ago to hospitals that have run out. There are nurses who literally have run out of masks, and are resorting to using cotton fabric. PLEASE help those who are risking their lives to help us. When all this is over, and we look at our still full pantries and stacks of masks, we will have to face the fact that we could have helped save lives, and did not.

Now is the time to start a victory garden. Buy some big bags of potting soil, gardening tools, packets of vegetable and herb seeds and a basic book on how to start a vegetable garden. If you do not have a large sunny backyard, you can do container gardening on a high-rise balcony or use some of those plastic kiddie pools set on a flat roof or just plant seedlings directly into slits cut into big bags of potting soil lying on the ground in a sunny location. There are lots of gardening books so you can find one that caters to your climate or focuses on growing in containers or making a temporary greenhouse from plastic sheeting in cold climates. Remember that rabbits, birds and browsing deer like fresh greens and ripe vegetables too, so some rolls of wire fencing and metal fence posts for a barrier around a traditional vegetable garden can protect the harvest from hungry creatures. Keeping a food garden weeded, climbing plants staked, the plants watered during dry periods and the food picked just as soon as it matures/ripens can be a relaxing activity at any age and a way to fill in a lot of spare time. Fresh, home-grown, raw veggies are an excellent source of vitamins when you are mainly eating rice, dried beans and canned food. Nothing beats the taste of a freshly picked, ripe, heirloom tomato. Or ears of sweet corn cooked immediately after harvest. Or a salad made with home-grown cucumbers, sweet onions and Bell peppers.

My late father changed the battery in 2013 and it ran out of juice (and started leaking) this month. Since the other battery -the package came with two- expired in 2018, I'm not taking chances.
Instead of getting a new pack of two C batteries, I'm buying a AA-to-C adapter, so I can limit my spare batteries stock to just AAs and AAAs.

  • @GearSkeptic
    @GearSkeptic Před 4 lety +2

As always, thorough and informative, sir. Thanks much.
Two small additions: around here, everything in any format with the word “disinfectant” on it is completely out and has been for weeks. No making hand sanitizer here, because you can’t get alcohol. Same for literally anything Clorox or Lysol. No bleach, no wipes, no pumps or spray cans. Nothing. However, pool shock is readily available on Amazon (right now as of this writing). It is extremely concentrated. A single pound will mix to make over a hundred gallons of bleach, and disinfecting sprays are made by diluting that bleach even further, so that one pound makes thousands of bottles of surface disinfectant spray. I just bought a six pack of 1 pound bags for about $35.
Second: since masks can’t be had anymore, there is concern of running out of your stocks if you need to start wearing them daily. Dr. Bradley (over at disasterprepper) has a nice video on using a UV light sanitizer box for disinfecting N95 masks so they can reused many times over. I just bought a Lumin UV chamber (made for disinfecting CPAP parts) on Amazon for $250. Pricey, but worth it. These are still available and can make even a very small stash of masks last a long time.
Anyway, keep up the good work and stay safe!

I bought mine several months ago thinking that it may come in handy for recon, it's a nice hobby in and of itself, but now I would be able to see rioters or the army from a mile away if it comes to that. Once the shelter in place order is given in your area, there will be a massive run on just about everything. Your normal grocery stores will have a hard time keeping up. But there are some places that you can still get plenty of food. In my area I have an Indian grocery store and a Halal butcher right next to each other. The Indian market is perfect for your staples of rice, beans, ghee, flat bread, and vegetables. The halal butcher while a little more expensive that a standard grocery store has a good selection of high quality meats. Then a half mile down the road is an Asian market. Again good for staples like rice, noodles, vegetables, and fish. It may be worth looking into the small mom and pop stores that serve their local ethnic enclaves.

    • @emodx74
      @emodx74 Před 4 lety

T Collins the Indian market was busy, the Halal market was steady, and the Asian market was slow. I am not worried about the “quality control regulations”. Firstly the food I am buying is frozen, canned, or rice/beans. Canning and flash freezing by process kills just about all viruses. Then cooking the food is also another sterilization. Secondly I have been buying the same food from these markets for years. I have never had a quality issue with what I buy. Thirdly the US works with importers to randomly check food safety. In fact I am more worried about getting sick from food from local farmer. Fresh food is so much easier to contain bacteria and viruses.

Great video! Keep up the good work!

You are missing a few things. When hospitals get overwhelmed, you are gonna need:
    1. Oxygen tank

Mean while POS all over the country have hundreds if not thousands of mask saved up and get instead of being honorable and sending them to the ERs to help the people risking their life’s everyone thinks they needs them more. I’m not saying don’t save any for yourself you can keep some for yourself. But if him or his family gets sick he ain’t gonna do anything. He’s gonna send them to a under equipped hospital. It’s disgraceful how Americans have become to spoiled, selfish and pathetic

Another tip, if you look for generators, you can also get ones that run on propane. I like the propane version because unlike gas, propane doesn't go bad, and unlike gas its price point tends to stay the same where gas can literally jump dimes, nickles and quarters a gallon in an hour.

I recommend half-mask respirators. For EDC/Get home bag, those N95/N100 face masks are ok. But for stationary storage, half-masks are much better.
    1) They have exhale valves so that the filter stays dry. This makes them multi-use.
    2) The filters are often not exposed. Thus, touching the mask does not bring you in contact with the filter material that contains the particles/virus etc.
    3) Silicone masks can be sterilized, usually even with boiling water.
    4) some companies make particle filters that can be sterilized multiple times with isopropanol.
All these features are offered by the Sundström SR 100 (NOT the newer SR 900) silicone mask. Their P3/P100 filter can be sterilized for 18 months without reducing filter performance. They have instructions on their website specifically out online for the Coronavirus period.
However, make sure to get the SR 100. The SR 900 is made of TPE that will melt at high temperatures and has a shelf life of 5 years compared to 10 years for the silicone mask.
3M half-masks are popular as well. But I don't like their material and head straps. The straps fray after some time, there are delicate plastic pieces, and you cannot visually inspect the 3M filter material as it's inside a box. There are 3M P3 filter pads that are clamped onto vapor filters, but the plastic shells that hold them in place can easily fall off or even break. The Sundström mask body is 100% silicone - nothing can break. If the head strap attachment breaks (if that metal piece ever breaks) it can be easily DIYed with some wire. Moreover, I like the single filter design. Theres only one location where the filter can have a leak and that can be visually inspected. 3M masks have two filters with locking mechanisms that cannot be inspected with filters installed. Breathing-in resistance is the same for both Sundström and 3M (3M has two filters but smaller connectors), but Sundström offers lower exhale resistance due to dual-exhale valves. 3M also offers no information regarding filter sterilization.
Sundström masks also have pre-filters that reduce pollution of the main filters. Their pre-filter holder also protects from rain or sparks. 3M only offers that with their box filters - but then again you can't inspect those.
Sundström masks are developed AND made in Sweden. I'm getting the SR 200 full-face mask soon as well.
Choosing a mask for prepping, I'm totally convinced by the sundström product line. 3M masks have reduced peripheral vision and their filters can be removed more easily by attackers. In rain, their filters will stick out to the sides of a rain coat hood. The sundström filter cover can easily be modified to make it fully rain proof. The SR 900 has several weak spots for a prepper, e.g. the easily removable filter similar to the 3M filter connectors.
Stay healthy. And assume everyone around you is infected. Peace.

I would also add a good set of power tools. Corded or cordless. As long as when you go to cut something you’re not using a hand saw. This way if you need to build something you can quickly cut the wood to size and drill it and screw it together.
If you already have a set of cordless power tools. Check your batteries and make sure they are in good working order.
Also buy extra things like screws and nails. This way if you have to build something you have the fasteners to do it already.

Along with your propane grill, get a small charcoal one. The table top size that does like a dozen burgers will be fine. Throw a pruning saw, hatchet, fire starters in there. You can burn paper, you can burn wood, and if you really have to, a metal bowl of sand and some kind of oil (very last ditch). And an all metal stock pot and a cast iron frying pan along with the dutch oven. All of it fits in a utility tote.

I always grill with charcoal. I take the free circulars from various stores that I get in the mail, and I use a couple of crumpled-up pages under my charcoal chimney to get the coals going. No lighter fluid. You can find these in your Home Depot or Lowe’s in the BBQ section.
