  • A multifaced break-up album filled with heart wrenching electronic production by Arca and the beautiful Vespertine like Björk string arrangements and vocal effort.

I love this reaction as always!!
    - Stonemilker and quicksand are both entirely produced by Bjork
    - History of touches is a song that depicts the exact moment of the death of her relationship
    - quicksand was also an ode to her mother who had a very serious illness at that time, Bjork was kind of comparing her suffering with her mothers even tho it was a different kind of pain

I kind of enjoy your private reactions more than the livestream, the chat had amazing insights, but I think it’s best for your first experience to be alone with the music

Bjork released a podcast a few months ago called Sonic Symbolism, where she did episodes deep diving into the process of creating of each of her albums. I highly recommend it!
Speaking on the song Atom Dance, Bjork revealed that the song was in fact the earliest song created for Vulnicura…because it was actually intended to be part of Biophilia years prior!

I think the sound of this album for me is a combination of all the best things from Dancer in the Dark, Homogenic and Vespertine.

It took me 8 years to finally enjoy and understand Vulnicura! I was probably 19 when Björk released it but I just couldn't even fathom the structure of the tracks, the strings I thought sounded the same. I just couldn't relate to that era of Björk at the time... I guess I was not mature enough to listen to it's secrets

Finally! Shout out to everyone who saw the livestream, but couldn't watch, and ultimately had to wait forever for the video. The livestreams are fun. Stonemilker, Lionsong, and Atom Dance are favs. Mouth Mantra is so propulsive with those sick beats, cinematic strings, and skittering electronic sounds. It's giving me late 90s-early 00s international neo-noir thriller (Oldboy, Infernal Affairs) meets Requiem for a Dream.

She began seriously having issues with her voice during her Volta tour..Imo her voice was pretty shot because of how she was performing songs like pluto, declare independence, innocence, vertebrae, etc.

I have a huge emotional connection to this album, its her most emotionally vulnerable and musically refined to me…
it’s hard for me to skip any song, each of them are cathartic and help to deal with a different emotion,
it also tells a coherent story, you have a sense of the emotional journey, and in the end there is a sense of healing.
lionsong, mouth mantra and atom dance put me in such closed state of connection with music, and history of touches almost always makes me cry, the openness of the lyrics reflecting on the end, and that sound of shattering emotion
“I wake you up in the night feeling this is our last time together, therefore sending all the moments, we’ve been together, every single archive, compressed into a second, await us here when I wake you up”
I really enjoyed utopia, some tracks there are extremely interesting and transportive, and deal with similar emotions, but in utopia she seems more aggressive and less open than here
Fossora might be my third favorite after vulnicura and vespertine, it only grew on me, it’s so mature and still musically spectacular, maybe you can revisit and rank her albums in the future

late AF reply - so happy you like Mouth Mantra, it's easily one of her most interesting tracks ever but clearly not for everyone :) also has some SICK live versions.

Love that you have Hollow Knight music as the background on the final thoughts. When i reached the, if I remember correctly, Path of Pain, the music of that area remember me this album. The in crescendo strings, the suffering, the eternal try again and again evoke me Black Lake.
Then in Fossora, the clarinets tracks remember me the music of Hollow Knight fungi infested area, both composers choose that sound as the sound of subterranean mushrooms. It must be some precedent but i dont know. Continuing with video game music, also some Fossora tracks remind me other subterranean, alien game: Metroid. Trolla-Gabba for me would fit perfectly in Super Metroid. I noted that on my listening, the sound palette of Fossora, themed as a "subterranean" album, match the sound vibes of other subterranean ambient projects like Hollow Knight and Metroid.

Theres a version thats called Vulnicura Strings - its string versions off all the songs and clears up a lot about the electronics discussion. Also pushes to the limits of what can be done with strings - i had no idea strings can do those beats

I'm not sure I like your lives reactions in terms of an album :( It feels so messed up that you are in the middle of a song but reading a comment that has nothing to do with the album itself :( It's nice for a song, but for me, you have to be really connected to listen to an entire album and it feels like you didn't connect sometimes :/ but anyways, thank u for this, Vulnicura is amazing for me and I'm glad that you enjoyed it 🖤

Volta and Vulnicura are her weakest albums, where with on Vulnicura she is vocally she's strained and uninspired, and production suffocating. But it goes to show how great an artist she is when her worst albums are still quite something in comparison to most releases out there.
