Always baffled me how Shane was so scuttered drunk that he couldn’t string a coherent sentence together, but could memorise and sing all the lines without fail
Shane mcgowen must be the only professional singer to treat a concert as if it were a night out on the town, so casual absolutely smashed ciggy in one hand whisky in the other but on song with pin point accuracy and timing.
I worked an event in Drammen Norway a few years back. Shane and the Pogues were playing. He was so drunk. We didn’t think he would be able to perform… But when he got on stage, he performed every song and it was magic!
This is the like to Eurovision episode of father ted when the host speaks gibberish to ted but then when he gets on the stage he's amazingly well spoken 😂
Man I love everything to do with the Pogues lol Shane is such a legend. Only drunk dude rock star who’s charming. This is coming from a Mexican American hardcore punk / metal guy 🤘🏽
@@houstondogbehaviorandtrain5430 there’s another Irish rover live version where I THINK he MIGHT MAYBE POSSIBLY be CLOSE to sober. But other than that, no😂
Had the 45 of Irish Rover as a tot. Wanna swear the B side was The Unicorn, but both of those songs were played dozens of times on my first phonograph player.
Everyone up there looks to be having an absolute ball! And Ronnie, just so happy and content, hands in pockets, note perfect, big smile - what a legend! Just looks like such good fun! Oh what times they would’ve had together back then!

I love how they are so comfortable and laid back when they perform this song....you can hear the emotions in the song. Today's music it's so fcken robotic and lacks poetry and creativity....
That's a load of shite. There is as much poetry and creativity in modern music as there ever has been. Not all modern music is pop music. What a lazy proposition.
@@capnskiddies and in 1987 in Ireland my Indian neighbours were called black, and they're still called black to this day by those ignorant bogmen. But they might be Indian now though, right?
It almost seems like Shane cared about the performance so much more than the interview, while Ronnie did that too, but he was more conditioned to act soberly, even though he obviously also wasn't. I liked Shane's performance better, even though I have only the highest respect for Ronnie. Nonetheless, those two are a very rare and beautiful combination. There must have been some kind of strange understanding between them, though sts it must have been quite difficult.

Shane is ledgendStill my avourie preformer through all those years.
You type like he spoke.
Drunk? He was full of heroin at this time.
Maybe that is his normal.
Probably because he is a literal genius.....

Did a few tours crewing over the years,The Pogues tour I did was a hoot and stands out as the most memorable for me. RIP Shane ❤
Respects from Crostia
I respect the fact that he had the cigarette burning down to the filter and didn't care, and Ronnie not caring that it was 2 inches from his face.
Feckin' great. RIP Shane❤
Ah, heaven definitely livelier with Shane there!
Brilliant 👏 nothing else needs saying, God bless ya Shane 🙏
Shane’s vocal timing is impeccable.

Just so you know, this is excellent music to run to on your last mile.
Wow! I don't dispute that at all.
The look Ronnie gave when he knew Shane was to try and speak lol
What a duo. Shane has a smile like a burnt fence.lol

Shane never let fame goes to his head, there's no room,he needs the space for alcohol & lyrics, bloody Folk & Roll legend 👏👍

I used to be in a band that played lots of fun Irish songs; I decided on not playing this one because nobody could do it better! ! ;-)

Shane is like a little kid standing next to his idol. I can't blame him, I'd be over the moon standing next to Ronnie.
