I think the diffusion of hyperpop is really to blame for PC Music's end, as the genre has become proliferated into more micro-genres the scene itself kind of fizzled out from a unified front to be a lot bigger in scale. I think it's really hard to operate a label like PC Music that essentially had a monopoly on a sound for half a decade, got a second life of sorts through the Hyperpop peak era, and now has almost zero cultural sway when anyone can make PC music type stuff from their bedroom. Either way, I'm just hoping they compile all of the sundry tracks they've released over the years to make it easier to stream, also hoping for some SOPHIE related releases from PC Music as well.
idk sophie never released through pcm so i doubt it would come from there
Itâs interesting to bring in the democratisation of music cuz Itâs an important aspect I think people have ignored
GFOTY leaving pc music when she did was the best thing she couldve done
ik she made her mind coincidentally at the right time, like power moves
I would agree that Namasenda's Unlimited Ammo was the last great release from PC Music, but then Felicita just released Spalarkle this year with some crazy ass sounds that really resembles the beginning of PC Music sound in mid-10s, it's very interesting. So at least, I'm happy that we had this last releases before PC Music end their activities for good.
i like spalarke but itâs a lil spotty for me, title track is amazing but some of those deep cuts⊠đ¶
i am hoping that these artists continue to go on and make music, and i think most or all of them will. I think part of this is because producers like AG, easyfun, danny, kane have all mostly moved on to successful careers either producing for major artists or making their own music somewhrere else (like kane in kkb). Also i think with success that artists like hannah and namasenda gave seen they should be able to continue on having great music careers independently or signing to a bigger label. Part of this excites me because we get to see where everyone is gonna go and what they will do next.
exactly ag got his beyonce bag and said see yâall đ
What's fascinating to me is that I completely came into PC music post 2019 - Some of the older signees I didn't know of until the covid livestreams and stuff. I consider so much of the newer PC music releases to be iconic both in popular music production (as so many of these producers move into bigger and badder things) as well as my own understanding of what electronic music can really be (coming from an edm background)
also 100 gecs is DEFINITELY a reason why pc is ending. but saying theyâre bad or i hate them, but the influence they probably took a bit from pc music and gave to the more memorable and iconic artists we have rn started to overall outsell pc music. i think we were onto something lighter for the label now, but my comment from before still gives reasons to me.
It makes me sad that 100 gecs may partially be to blame for this considering they're my favorite band.
I think this message really signifies what I think a lot of ppl have been feeling for a while now, that the label has lost it's soark, what made them unique. Yeah, I think A.G. fumbled the bag hard with how he handled PC music after being appointed Charli's creative director, with how Hannah's album was really postponed, and how Polly left bc she rightfully felt neglected, and in general, the early good vibes were gone by 2019 all together, thusly in general, the announcement of no new releases after this year is nothing new, we've seen the cracks for a long time now. It's just sad bc an integral part of my music upbringing was through qbd with PC music, and it sucks knowing it's coming to an end đą
yesss i do wish i would have gone more in depth about gfoty leaving the label tbh
@@paper_boyfriend do it bestie, I believe in u
Still greatly appreciate 7G for how many great ideas that thing contained. Anything Could Happen is a amazing song.
first comment and im only here to mourn.. rip pc music we love you
i wanna listen to u explain stuff forever
omggggg tysm đđ
genuinely dont understand this "they havent been good in ages" narrative. i couldnt disagree more with that notion, holy shit
I dont think people are saying the new releases are bad music. They are all still genuinely good and still enjoyable... but PC music back then have so much oomf and edginess and mystery. Like you really had to be there to know the vibe. and even removing that nostalgia effect, Old PC music are genuinely so unique and unapologetically fun. I always use GFOTY as an example because her albums and mixes contains so much of what PC music used to be. Weird, Experimental, and weirdly heartfelt. Now, the new releases are just.... music. I guess they all sound nice, but they seem so bland compared to the old PC music sounds. It's all just hyperpop now.
was gonna reply to this but the other guy said exactly what i was gonna say lol, iâm glad you still enjoy their current output tho i wish i could say the same
@@paper_boyfriend ily paperboyfriend
@@danielconnor8516 well i was "there" back then and i still feel the way i do, so that's not what it is. i also think plenty of music that's come out in their supposed "flop era" (not all of it mind you, but some of it) has been exactly as you described, "weird, experimental, and weirdly heartfelt." different strokes for different folks
I discovered PC around 2014-15 and it CHANGED MY LIFE... I have so many mixed feelings about this; sad, relieved, hopeful... but overall I just want all the artists to continue making art they love, and I know I'll be able to connect with whether they're part of the label or not. I just wish PC as a label and the artists they signed and associated with would get more recognition for the sounds they pioneered. It frustrates me to no end when friends I've been like trying to put on to it for almost a decade are now listening to like brakence, ericdoa, etc. (strange how the most mainstream artists to profit off the sound are cishet people using a sound pioneered by mostly LGBT artists but I digress) and telling me it's like this NEW exciting sound! It makes me feel very jaded and cynical in a moment where I should probably be happy that people are becoming more open to experimental and different sounds and ideas....
very much agree they were the blueprint (and you spilled in those parentheses ooooooo)
I have the most disturbing feeling of nostalgia for this movement/music label... because I came into it just before both it's mass co-opting into the mainstream and then started really getting into it during the pandemic's shutdown(s), where I spent literal months just going through every scrap and vaguely related artist I could find, consuming it like the candy it sonically resembled (sublimating my eating disorder into a different obsession, in hindsight).
Too much happened at once. And still is.
The movement fracturing and petering out feels like it should have happened both sooner and later to me. And I will miss it more than anything else
was waiting for this video
Could you explain a little more the rise of hyperpop and its relation with the fall of PC music? What's the role of Brady here? I'd love to read what you have to say about that since I don't know much about it. :)
HOLY WOWOWO PLS MAKE MORE EXPLAINY-TYPE BIDS this was awesome
I have so many mixed feelings about this. I do think most people are right, the label has kinda been spinning in circles the past few years and releasing things that were... not up to snuff compared to their earlier releases. That being said, I've still been enjoying most of their output, and PC Music had a HUGE influence on me and completely changed my taste in music. I didn't really listen to electronic stuff before I found PCM.
i think that this is definitely a good thing. the labels music spanning the past 5 years started to make me confused. they know theyâre having an identity crisis rn.
Agree, i was looking at pc music releases and none of them were good in the past 2 years. The label's influence lives on though.
So that's the reason Astra King just randomly have her EP out
Fuck was looking forward to Astra Kings album.
Oh wait nvm
what's your opinion on Sophie?
literally a once in a lifetime talent. no one has ever made music like her and redefined music like her and tbh no one ever will
