I don't know shit about boats. I've followed this since the beginning. All i need to know is this one is nostalgic and these people are passionate.
This project deserves 1M subscribers! I love how much thought and precision is happening with this build. This is one hull of a build.
good one!
1m will come
3 million subscribers is a number that comes to my mind. More maybe... ; ⁰ )
You truly dont have enough subscribers this is way beyond boat building. Ive been here awhile and have no intentions on ever doing anything like this but im entertained every week and amazed at the progress.
I feel the same way. I'm not into boats and have never been on a sailboat but this is one of my favorite things to watch every week. Matt is clearly a very talented craftsman who loves his craft and that is always enjoyable to watch, especially when every video seems so well thought out and put together. 👍👍
@@loue4548 yeah I don't have near the editing skills as these 2. Hell, le'paws could out edit my videos 😂
You aren't just a boat builder, you are an artist!!!
It's just CA glue, not CNA glue. Stands for CyanoAcrylate. Also, normally, the accelerator is sprayed on the bonding surface that doesn't have the glue on it, so that it activates when the part is pushed in place, and doesn't start kicking off before the joint is made. Since you're just using it for placeholding, it's not a big deal... more of a best practice thing!
The project is looking GREAT!
Exactly what I’ve noticed too. Spray activator on one side and glue on the other, when they mixes the magic starts.
Special T is a slow-curing CA glue. The manufacturer recommends spraying the accelerator on both surfaces before mating to shorten the curing time.
Mentioned the CA vs. "cna" thing last week-must not have taken.
Been building R/C aircraft with CA for some 30 years now-won't use accelerator. It weakens the bond.
I love how the exterior light reflects on the shelf, this will make the interior brighter and bigger.
Bravo!!!
DURASAIL is getting pretty close to concept visible..thx Matt, enjoying the process
thank you for another great video
If you insulate the section of the hull near the mattress, you minimize the mold and also reduce some of the noise. Insulating in the cubby will also help if clothing, etc. ends up getting stuffed in there.
Coming along beautifully Matt, hope the inspector is happy
When creating all these features/structure on the boat....did you ever consider to use the cavities behind it to route wires or other things?...I mean...if you added a flexible tube inside it, you could push wires through it later. This could be considered in the cockpit as well for the instruments
He better do it soon! My boat came from the factory with a few very convenient conduits that would have been impossible to add later
It’s a great idea that I do think about, but it’s also time consuming. I’m going to have lots of room to route utilities.
That double berth is really cool! I think the entrance is just the right size and by gosh i know that it's hard to make a mistake when you are such a perfectionist, but being an optimist i say at least you cut the parts too big with a simple fix.... also actually seeing it in person in the space gives artistic license to change so it's not really a mistake. 🙂 I'm seeing your vision now for the interior and really liking how she is coming together. A truly unique and functional piece of art! Cheers!
The inspector is a CUDDLE MUFFIN! 🤣🤣 so are ours 👍👌
she'd rather people not know, but it's the truth
The vertical wall on the underside of the lower bunk could also have cubby's cut into it and you'd be able to get at that storage space without having to lift the mattress
You are incredible.
Hullo from Minnesota - love your work!
Mate, so impressed!!🇦🇺
Really enjoy watching your development process. I think the change in the Cubbys was a real improvement.😁👍👍👍
Matt is a real master! My personal patience has increased just from following this project. Impressive
The spray he is using is Contact Adhesive Activator Spray, which accelerates the curing time of Cyanoacrylate Adhesives (CA or Super Glues).
Particularly effective with higher viscosity, thicker types of super glue.
Also good for when the glue is applied in thicker layers, or when bonding porous / passive materials.
Helps with gluing in tricky environmental conditions (low temperatures, low humidity).
"I love cutting holes in boats"
HAhaha.
Great job, especially with the planning. I enjoy seeing how it's all coming together.
Old punk/skater/bassplayer/toydesigner/webguru loves you. Great channel.
What’s a ‘webguru’?
KEEP up the good work.... SPLASH DAY is coming.....
Love your videos, thank you! Learned many neat tricks, love how you use good PPE and the cat inspections!
To solve the issue with the mattress, touching the hull, why not laminate a couple of tracks onto the hull and then laminate a piece of foam over those tracks. That would allow any sweat from the hull to drain down into the bilge area and it would hold the mattress Off of the hull itself keeping it dry.
Love the way you confidently cut holes, knowing that if you really need to you can just fill them back in again 🙂
I love your plans for the interior and it's great seeing it all come together.
The space looks so big compared to other boat channels I watch.
It's nice to watch a large project for a change to see what can be done with a larger space.
thanks, Steve!
Another great episode. Thanks!!
''We are building the dream boat so it has to be done right'', and this is precisely why this boat is gonna be super special. I love your super positive energy that is going into every little detail. And of course the video work is just superb, actually loved the split screen inside and outside scene, clever stuff. Anyhow, I can feel a new energy and some very exciting times on the way. As always, sending you guys the best of good energy......Neil 😊☘☘
Thanks, Neil! We can feel your positive energy from across the planet :)
Man, the performance build areas are more interesting personally, since I come from a racing background and smaller boats. But I know how important the comfort and practicality is in a sailboat. I can’t wait to see these living spaces taking shape! The way you’re building these Matt, seems to be very lightweight yet strong. I bet the weight gain from composite alone won’t be much.
Good call on shrinking down the cabinet in the double-bed birth. As you said, it looks better and the bed is larger. Really fun part of the build. The Inspector even seemed to like the bunks. Thanks for the episode.
Hi Matt and Jahni, It looks like Winter is kicking in by you guys, It's unreal the amount of room you have in there. I'm sure Matt will make it outstanding. Just beautiful. awe-inspiring
Put close cell foam on the hull where the mattress touches.
Good idea
Once again fantastic music, it makes the video exciting,
I think the inspector approves of the new bunks, particularly with human heating.
Mattress: since you are likely getting a custom mattress for the double bunk, you could get a 45 degree on the bottom 4" on the inboard side to keep it off the hull and reduce the chance of mold.
exactly!
Wish I was your neighbour 'cause I'd come and help. Anyway, congratulations on having a channel where you're not begging for stuff.
I live a mile away from livingforsail, Jon doing a Liberty 458 reno.
Lots of thought and work…admire your vision. You certainly are packing lots into this narrow hull. It is difficult to imagine how these spaces under the main cabin seats will be comfortable. I guess my claustrophobia is greater than most.
Great progress and making useful spaces
This is my favourite channel on CZcams
The boat is coming on so well 👏🏼
Hello again, The boat is getting bigger! The scope of the platform is more interesting every week. I am now 68 and now on my 4th boat. getting a good sleep is now my most important luxury , make those beds well😊😊
Very interesting video. It's going to be great looking and comfy too. Thanks for the video 👍👍😁
I feel famous! 😊 Glad to see you didn't fall into the rookie upholsterer trap and forget to allow for the thickness of the foam! 4" is my minimum thickness for a mattress. That might be plenty comfy for you since it's on slats as well. Don't forget you have to get it through that wee hole! With an 8" thick slab, that might turn out to be the hardest part of the whole project! 🤣 Thanks for another awesome video!
thanks for your support, Peppy!
I have always thought that you had to put the glue on one part and the activator on the other part. My mind was blown seeing you just activate the glue itself. It makes perfect sense, i just never thought of it.
let me tell you one thing, you are very good and above all very thoughtful and calm.... something that when we do work on a boat we never do... start, finish immediately!!!
Jesus! I love your work. If tjere was anyway to participate, I would. But I'll wait till you sail to Finland.
Any added WOOD will be a great addition for looks and contrast. I think you should have your mother and father trying all the hatches and openings to see if they can easily access and use them.
I love how the cubbies are the same shape as the windows!
I love it !
You're building a second bed. You use Laminate. You did not protect and paint the old laminate.
You make the bed supports from laminate. They are glued to the side. There is laminate on them. If the old laminate cracks (you meet the some container in sea) you won't be able to get to the crack. The inside of the yacht is can not laminated! Only vertical bulkheads can be laminated. You always need to have easy access to the side to be able to repair it from the inside.
Are you going to add some type of condensation/noise barrier in the insides of the hull? It makes a big difference when underway & sleeping right next to the water against the hull.
Your build is so fascinating to watch and I love your attention to detail. I have reduced the number of boat builds I watch, as most of them talk your ears of without much progress.. It helps of course that you built a comfy bed for the "inspector" aka Cuddlemuffin 🤣
It is fantastic seeing the layout come together.
You two are so dang cute together.
When the parts glued together, was that subtle, clever innuendo…”dear god” I was thinking “ they aren’t actually going to try it out with just that bit of glue…”
Lol
Don’t beat yourself up so much on remaking your shelf! Doing a great job and we are sure you will use every last bit! We certainly do. Looking good
I love the content, but special kudos for the great music.
Amazing project!! Like others here, I'm completely ignorant about boats but just watching your craftsmanship is amazing and mesmerizing. What got me hooked initially was a video you uploaded showing 8 months in one (the one between E25 and E26). It could be a good idea to make another one of those.
Coming together for u guys. Luv the work ethic and especially your patience. I will be watching this channel for as long as u guys are posting. Stay safe
Every episode is a joy watching 🙂 Always excited when a new episode of "Durable Divinycell" (as I call her) appears in my feed. Keep up the good work guys 🙂
Amazing builder ! The ship will be great 🎉❤
It looks lovely. Can't wait to see the rest. Great vlog guys...
You two are brilliant!
Good stuff
Love how Matt and I share the same principle: There is a distinct difference between "Work mode" and "Joke mode".
As Bob Ross would say… “There’s only happy mistakes”
you should find someone to make you a 3d printed attachment to keep your vacuum hose attached to the router and your saw.
Had you contemplated trimming some of the intrusion off those rib gussets above the bunks/bed, should be able to restore the lost beef with some carbon layers and a healthy carbon infill of the core at the outside edge. they will look like less of an orphan hangover from the old design and more a component of the new one. Oh, concealed LED strip lighting now it comes in red etc, looks great if you can conceal it and nows the time to do it, just saying.
I trimmed them down as much as Evan the naval architect allowed me to
Will be interesting to see what kind of engine setup you'll be running. Saw in the latest episode of Sailing Uma they covered different electric manufacturers, "Combi" stood out as a smart combo of electric/diesel
Wood fittles will be a nice touch,
Been here since day 1, and I love how this boat is shaping up. It’s really picking up pace now on the build.
Don’t forget your utilities like water and electricity provision
I would foresee some provisional pipes or strategic gutters true the boat. It would be a pity to drill holes in your fantastic work and have to do more fibreglass work.
I spent decades boating (Stink Pots) in Georgian Bay. It's God's country, such an amazing place to boat!
Love it so much keep it up as always 💘
I completely enjoy, and am very impressed with your work. I have one curiosity question-I understand the gluing when putting the mold pieces together, but what was the aerosol and why? I hope you have thousands of hours of enjoyment in your boat when it is completed.
Activator for the CA glue applied to the opposing surface.
Thank you very much for both the explanation and the promptness of the reply.
@@kimberlydeann
It’s accelerator
I don’t think anybody is sleeping in rough seas 😂
Your vision is amazing Matt!
WOW..really like that..how it gets together and start too look...🎉
The procedure I learned for using CA glue and kicker on model aircraft parts was to put the glue on one side of the joint and spray the kicker on the other.
Awesome job as always Matt looks great can't wait to see next week thank you again for sharing this project with us John and Marie
Bunk size is fine, bigger than a type 23 frigates 🤣🤣
great progress!
Great progress and a well put together video. Broad spectrum of music!.
Your cat is going to be most upset when you fill all the climbing spaces with “stuff” when you embark on your travels
This is so enjoyable to follow along with 😊
Dont forget to build in secret hidey holes in those dead spots for special documents and valuables :) or just little shelves for phones glasses etc
Insulating the hull would eliminate the majority of the condensation problems in my humble opinion. I don’t know if it is just me, but it seems that the bunks are a mite small for anyone my size which is 6’ 3” tall and over 225 lbs, so thinking that the majority of the people who would go on cruises with you would be about your size and not much taller or bigger. When I recall some of the people who have assisted you on the boat, they were taller than you were, but my memory and vision could be bad also. 😅
A 6 foot 6 inch tall person could sleep in the bunks
New subscriber, thank you for documenting your build process!
Getting excited seeing the progress.❤❤❤
Great video 🇬🇧 👍
Another great episode, thank you
Love the 'we'll design it as we go' kinda approach! It looks well thought out and practical. I'm afraid however that those beds might be a tight fit when there's mattresses on it. Not a lot of space left then. And as a tall person I I'm sceptical about the lenght of the beds. Being wedged in (length wise) can be very uncomfortable on a boat.
the bunks will fit a 6 ft 6 inch tall person. The tight fit is intentional as they're meant to be sea berths-you want to be wedged in when crossing an ocean. There will also be other, bigger bunks
@@TheDuracellProject Yes, I get that, but being wedged in is more appropriate/desirable for movements from side to side, not so much back and forth. While crossing the Atlantic, I was very, very happy to finally have a berth (X-442) in which I could stretch my feet out (which makes you considerably longer). You need to account for pillow space and streched feet. Don't think anyone 6'6" (which I am) would be very comfy.
I'm happy to try when the boat is finished ;)
Great video
U remind me of Adriano when u say totally. dot let it become a habbit 😅 Dæjå!
Matt, you crazy dude!
Abort the project with bunk beds! There is not enough room! After you install the mattress and the bedding, you won’t have enough space to even roll over onto your other side or be able to scratch your knee if you needed to.
these are just sea berths for children and when sleeping at sea. You want a tight fit when crossing the ocean.
an Idea for the bunkbeds slats. Get a "ratchet straps" like strap and staple, glue or screw it to the bunk slats at a set spacing.
Cubbies have to be small otherwise they won’t fit in the seats at Wrigley!
❤ your design aesthetic.
I wish my cats were cuddle muffins
Just love how many people whom have never sailed offshore just don't understand pilot berths. On the racer cruisers I've sailed on its often a fight to see who gets those berths. Maybe I'm weird but I don't think ive ever slept dead straight out in my life. I get the idea of stretching out to the max but... Honestly I know the boat is going to be super comfy!!
As always just waiting to see the trim choices, because that's what will make her a yacht rather than a boat.
We are excited about mahagony trim- it’s the cheapest and looks good
