It is NOT 25 years since the release of Parklife! I absolutely refuse to believe that! I'm still young, I'm still young, I'm still young.... *rocks in corner*

That opening riff really puts your guitar’s intonation to the test. Unfortunately, mine didn’t pass.

Am I missing something weird with the tuning?.... that opening riff sounds terrible on my strat in standard tuning, just completely out out of tune.

for anyone curious, coxon almost exclusively used a marshall super lead and a rat distortion pedal for blur songs (marshall with a minimal drive and then the rat to bring more gain)

  • @BeatPoet67

Great stuff as usual! Coxon has such an idiosyncratic sound and you nailed it. I've been having a bit of a Suede fest recently, and if anything I appreciate them more now than I did at the time - and I loved them at the time. Bernard Butler had such a brilliant dirty sound but he could do a lot of delicate work as well. So if you're ever stuck for new lesson ideas - then just about anything by Suede from their first two albums would be much appreciated. Cheers!

Not a huge fan of blur but a great lesson, any chance of a lesson if there’s no other way? I am not convinced my version is authentic. Also, in the same vein, how about some happy Monday’s and the stone roses and the charlatans, soup dragons and the blue tones and reef and cast, I’ve come over all nostalgic after watching this one! Cheers, C

Thanks Craig. Yes, I grew up on all those bands - all great stuff! There's No Other Way has some great riffs, so I'll bear that in mind for a future lesson. If you've not seen it, I did a Mondays video a while back where I go through a few of my favourite songs. Must do a bit of John Squire soon!

I agree, Blur and Coxon are definitley coming from that eccentric, British art school tradition, like Barrett, the Kinks...and a lot of Coxon's solo stuff reminds me of Syd.
