- Mompiche Ecuador is one of the few fishing villages around the world that hasn't been spoiled by tourism. Other than surfing there's not a whole lot "to do" and that's exactly why you'll want to go.
Located in the southern part of Esmeraldas Province. This place is what every hardcore traveler wants - peace. There are a few things that will keep you busy but you'll fall in love with the art of doing nothing but enjoying the surroundings.

Hi I'm Ayngelina and my full time job is my site BaconisMagic.ca it's all about the best food around the world and how to make it at home.
In 2010 I left a job in advertising, 5 year relationship and sold all my possessions to travel the world. In the last ten years I've had some crazy experiences and even owned a restaurant in Toronto at one time. And prior to 2020 I had been based in Cuba.

Ayngelina, great video of Mompiche. Whenever I go to Esmeraldas, I have to spend sometime in Mompiche. Again, you made a beautiful video of the town of Mompiche and it’s lovely beaches.
I am SHOCKED more people aren't in Mompiche. It's part of Esmeraldas but because it's so far south it doesn't have the same issues. And unfortunately the food isn't as good. But still worth going. LOVED it. And wait until you see Saturday's video of Isla Portete just 3 minutes away.

I didn't sense a problem, but to be honest I'm running the CZcams videos through a dynamic range compressor most of the time because a lot of people make the mistake of just dropping music in at it's native normalized level when their dialogue is several dB quieter.
See if this makes sense: it can't be *too loud* in a digital storage format but it's possible to record too hot exceeding the range of the digitizer or to clip earlier stages with a level mismatch, either causing distortion. I haven't heard that in any of your videos.
The common problem is too much variation of level (loudness) between segments, music and dialogue, different people speaking, stuff like that.
Imagine watching a video with the fam, little guys have gone to bed. Talking begins, you set the volume to just hear it, the music kicks in and the moms get bent out of shape because it's now loud and it might wake up the kids. So you jump on the remote and turn it down. Back to talking and you can't hear what they're saying so where's that remote again...
You get the picture. Even sound, that's the goal. Cheers!
What a great and beautiful place! Thank you for what you shared about the cows in Ecuador. With my husband we were always asking ourselves why we don't see more beef in videos of Ecuador, now we have the answer.
Yep unless you're in a really amazing restaurant known for steak I'd just embrace other proteins as it will be disappointing. Also it's better for the land here 😊
Good to know! It's time for us to start eating healthy anyways and take advantage of all the amazing vegetables and fruits Ecuador has.

When you take the time to leave a comment it means so much to me, of course I reply 😊. I have spoken about beef being mediocre in various videos. But the moment that I spoke about not eating it in Ecuador was actually the moment I realized I should make that decision.
Andres and I always talk about how destructive it is for these forests which are the lungs of the country, and so if I don't want to see more clearcutting I also need to make sacrifices. I'm not saying I'll never eat beef here but it will be the exception.
For sure we are going to consider the same thing as you, we don't want to take the oxygen from this beautiful country. Thanks to your video you made us aware how much land cattle require.

I am so glad you see this. So many people think Ecuador is a handful of good places and once they move here they don't travel it. But there are SO MANY incredible places. I always feel like I'm only scratching the surface.

I'll not stop working when I move down but, work can be done from everywhere and, Ecuador had this 'something' telling me, I will never again leave, when I finally get to this wonderful country and not least, the people 😊

How safe is the Esmeraldas area for families with young children? Really wanting to bring the whole family but I’m very unfamiliar with Ecuador!
Last year I shot a series of videos there and loved it. But right now it’s not safe to visit. If you’re unfamiliar with Ecuador and do not speak Spanish I would recommend other areas along the coast.
Where would you recommend, and why is Mompiche unsafe right now? I’m familiar with the Tarapoto Peru area and LOVE it, but the protests are still happening and there’s no end in sight on that so far. We are actually considering buying property somewhere in South America, as a getaway/ second home, but can’t decide where due to the political climates 🥴
I would never buy property in Ecuador without staying in the area first for a year. Any land that is a bargain price is usually a bargain for a reason and often expats will swindle unsuspecting newcomers into thinking it's a good opportunity and then they discover there's a huge issues with the plot. Mompiche is fantastic and there is distance from what is happening in Esmeraldas but it's also far away from amenities etc so to buy land and build a house you really need to know the place to find out who you can trust to actually do it and source materials. I know there are properties for sale there right now of those who wanted to open accommodation and didn't quite make it work so it could be useful talking to them about their experience building in the area. But if you just want a holiday home you should just rent as you go. Real estate doesn't appreciate like it does in North America and so most expats often rent long term as it's cheaper than buying.
What about Playa Escondida, the Island of Portete, or the bioluminescent plankton at the point at night?

Dear Ayngelina, you did it again. Beautiful video. But more importantly, you made me realize why you don't eat a lot of meat in your videos. I thought " wow, she really loves pork!" I like pork but not to eat at every meal. Thank you for explaining the ecological impact of beef production/consumption. I can't say I won't order a beef item b while in Ecuador, but I will be mindful of the consequences of consuming it.
Beef isn't as common here in Ecuador but it's becoming more popular. But it's also rarely very good. Pork, chicken and seafood are always a safer choice if you want a good meal.

We had no issues at all in Mompiche, there was a family having lunch at Playa Negra but otherwise we didn't see anyone the entire time.

I never list prices as hotels always change but i also always include the website links in the description box so you can contact them.
OK. An idea could be to say: We are may 2022 and the room was xyz amount but know it might change.
While we are at it the prices at the restaurant can also change.

Hotel prices in Ecuador are not like North America. They vary drastically which is why I don't share.
It depends on how long you stay, how many people there are, season and day of the week, did you book in advance or show up and negotiate? Did you pay with visa or cash? Did you need a receipt. So it will never be accurate and it's not fair to anyone to list the price.
But I always list websites so people can check quickly for themselves. And I never share where I've stayed unless I like it.
