    I am a Sierra Leonean, and i agree with you 100%! it is the same all over Africa, we've attained our independence for over sixty years now, and the status quo
    still exists, and needs to change. The electrification of the whole continent, is the only way, that the continent would progress and industrialize. Imagine, we are in the21st century, and we are still mired in this. Indigenous Africans don't have to get in their feelings, because of this constructive criticism, by our brothers and sisters of the African diaspora, who are blessed with the same DNA that we have, they have the blood bought right, to discuss this publicly, and hold the "powers that be," feet, to the fire..

      So what’s your point? Don’t be a sycophant. You think they are not Ghanaians true true so they have no right to complain?
      You must be living under a rock if you feel the locals are not complaining and putting it online. I am a Ghanaian and visit at least once every year and this issue is ruining people’s businesses, there was an issue in a NICU once when lights went out. Business owners who run 'cold stores' are spending all their revenues on power so it in turns falls on the consumer! This has been a persistent issue since 1998 (I remember bcos I used to go to other places to watch the world cup because of lights out) and it’s time these greedy politicians solve it once and for all. They don’t suffer since they are rich and can afford generators and get reimbursed as allowances.
      Listen carefully to what they are saying. If you can’t use your nebulizer because of power loss then it’s a huge problem. Or you expect them to praise this bad condition?
      During my time in Gh, I get into a bad mood coming from work to come home to meet these power outages. Imagine the heat and having no fan or air conditioner let alone anything to entertain you.
      They have the right to air out their frustrations!

      @@papayaw5679 i think that we are both airing the same frustrations about the lack of adequate electricity in the continent, not just Ghana. It is not sycophantic at all my brother, to air my views. We, the Africans of the continent and our African brothers and sisters of the diaspora, should all be in one accord, in order to fight this, the crooked politicians and the Svengalis that are pulling their strings in the west, are our common enemy, and we should use all the energy at our disposal, to unify and fight them into submission, for the good of Mama Africa, God bless you sir.

      My main aim, as a Pan Africanist, is to see Africa grow, we must have leaders that envision this, but sadly, it seems that 99.5% of the leadership in Africa, are not interested in the development of the continent, because they are at the behest of their benefactors in the west and more recently the east, (China, to be specific) again, Africa must be free off the tentacles of these opportunists, and their henchmen, that are pillaging and raping Africa dry!
      I am sorry, i know that i am long-winded, but this has been a sore topic for me for a long time, and the status quo would not change, unless our African brothers and sisters of the diaspora, especially the ones that have the wherewithal and expertise to help us develop, ( Africans helping Africans) and electing young leaders like the new Senegalese president. Bassirou Dyomaye Faye, with a panAfricanst outlook, that the continent would truly start in the pathway to truly develop Africa, into the mineral rich continent that it is, with abundant arable land to farm, which when developed agriculturally, would be the bread basket of the world. If all of the leaders of the 54 countries in Africa, can dedicate themselves, to nothing, but the electrification of Africa, best believe, the western powers knows that such a move, would be detrimental to them, and a death knell to their own economies and their hold over Africa, because they know that with the electrification of Africa, by non traditional means ( like Idris Elba and his company, are doing in Sierra Leone, laying the groundwork, to build a self sustainable city in Bonthe Island) that would use solar, wind and aqua energies, to power and electrify the city, his plan and that of his partners, is to make Bonthe Island, a technology hub, a tourist hub, as well as a live, work and play environment, because the island have over 19 pristine and untouched white sand beaches, and this hopefully could be replicated all over Africa, because we have all of the ingredients, that would make the continent of Africa, the superpower that it supposed to be.

    Africa has problems with resources because of Western colonial politics and their puppet African leaders, which I'm assuming you already know. Colonial policies in blackface allow outside corporations to benefit off of the resources, and whatever crumbs are left are hogged by the greedy politicians and elite. These governments could easily do more to develop the land, but they are literally paid not to. This is the situation. Our only hope is SELF RELIANCE. We as the people (the ones with common objectives) have to work together to develop ourselves slowly but surely. Waiting on these compromised governments is futile at this stage.

    You are complaining for power outage in Ghana for days that means you can't be in most part of Nigeria. But if you are rich you get power supply constantly based on the location you are. High brow areas have a better power supply. Note that in most parts of Africa we don't rely on Government for basic amenities. You provide for yourself. The only problem I have with Ghana is that they pretend all is well comparing thier country with Nigeria. The population and land mass of Ghana is just the size of two states in Nigeria out of 36 States and the Federal capital territory. You need a backup generator in Ghana or a backup battery bank. If you are poorer then you need to go old school with lanterns, candles, etc. until you can afford a battery bank or a generator. In the U.S I have a battery bank and a backup generator for those occasional power outages. It seems that the power outages over there are intermittent and are off for a few hours at a time. If I would move to Ghana I would strive to have at the minimum a battery back for 6 hours of electricity for critical appliances. Then I would strive to get a backup generator. That should solve those intermittent outages.

    As AAs, in terms of culturally, should we all be online airing out Ghana's dirty laundry on line? Is this kind of real honest accepted American behavior acceptable to the natives in the motherland? You even said, a lot of people talk about solutions and if you don't have the money, should you be in a foreign land strongly offending the people. This is a concern. We must respect other people's culture and way of life as this airing out is really creating a deep, deep, resentment and divide between us and our native brothers and sisters. Really try and be more respectful. I will be visiting for the first time this year and I'm hoping it's not a hostile environment between us and them because "we" keep sullying their image online. Speak locally, to authorities, whatever you need to do, but airing it to the world online is not something their culture or other country's there appreciate. Be mindful. Be wise. And be patient and use common sense. Respectfully. You are in GHANA. You are not on the block in the US. When I move to Ghana this year, I will have solar power because I've done the research and I've been there multiple times. You have to remember Ghana is not the US or the UK, it is a developing country...it took America hundreds of years to get where it is and some of that was based on free slave labor. Ghana is only 67 years old and it has to pay to build, there is no free labor. If you plan to rent in Ghana, there are many apartments with A/C units and generators, so when the power goes a generator kicks in and you are fine...its all about proper planning. • @kwakuakonto8942
    @kwakuakonto8942 Před 4 měsíci

    it's not only Ghana that is experiencing power outages. South Africa, Kenya, Tanzania, Sierra Leone, Nigeria and a lot of African countries are experiencing the same problem because of their source of power generation. In USA and other Western countries, you have nuclear energy generated electricity in the mix so you don't have such problems

    Listen ladies…If the locals don’t pay property taxes and school taxes and income taxes etc. they will not receive services as such. You’re comparing apples to oranges. In America we pay a million different taxes in order to receive all those benefits and even more you haven’t mentioned. So therefore since you’re in Ghana, go get a really good solar panel system and a borehole. If you can get together and help some of the locals get it too. This is not complicated it’s as simple as ABC.

    • @ov9879
      @ov9879 Před 4 měsíci +1

      Yes, you are right. American are taxed, taxed, taxed. Many are barely surviving. You get a lot of services but many are wondering if it's worth the price. Since that's not the case in Ghana of being overtaxed, If I lived in Ghana I would come up with a plan for a solar system (~$10,000 usd) or a good battery back up (a lot cheaper). And do a borehole like you say. If, I lived in Ghana and had the means I would go back to the U.S. and work a few months to a year and get the money for solar, batteries and a borehole and be done. No need in going another 20 years with intermittent power outages. But, sounds like to me a good business opportunity of either installing the cheaper battery backup in already established homes or getting with builders to have them installed when they are building. Just saying!

      @@ov9879 absolutely!!!!
      We obviously can’t have it both ways. You either pay a BUNCH of taxes or no taxes. If you choose to pay taxes, fine. That way you will get all the services your used to. If you live off grid (WELL) then you gotta set yourself up properly and stop complaining.

    The power outage and water outage problem in Ghana did not start today. It’s been going on over 20 years. When I was in Ghana, this problem was there. It’s been 20 years and it’s funny seeing you guys talk about this same issues. This ain’t going to change so save your breath and equip yourself with a bore hole and a generator or solar panels and move on. Why do you think a lot of the locals leave Ghana and go to America for greener pastures. The problems in Ghana, you guys have not seen anything yet. It’s either you equip your self for your own sanity or move back to America or go try another African country that you think has better infrastructure. All the best to you guys. Shalom.

    Lol ... Ghana is not what you think it is. Ghana has no money. Their Gold have been sold to a foreign company and they have taken lumpsome advance payments for it. That means, whatever gold that is being mined today has zero monetary value to Ghana. It is going to get worse! Ghana is already bankrupt. I guess a lot of people don't realize this reality.

    The government is working on the power issue TBH. Ghana has enough power apparently but there seems to be power producing parties who are not paid on time for them to purchase fuel for their plants. There’s also inefficiencies in the distribution of power.
    I believe in about a month or so they would’ve fixed it for the most part.
