An except from MANCOMM's Commercial Motor Vehicle Operator Instruction Series "Tankers" video which explains the types of tankers and how the liquid cargo acts as the vehicle is moved.
For fuel delivery, we use the bulkhead one. Have 5 or 6 different compartments. Good for delivering different products to a gas station. Maybe 4 compartments regular, 1 compartment premium and one diesel. It's also good to be able to load a bit heavier in the front and loading a bit lighter in the back, if it's winter driving conditions. Extra traction for the tractor.
I'm studying for my tankers endorsement, this was real simple and real easy to understand and I appreciate the visualization that it gives me. Thank you very much for posting this
I'm an instructor and I use this video for my students getting their Tanker Endorsement. This is the simplest way to explain the whole chapter. Excellent!!
The video is wrong, Bulkheads can be sanitized. In Germany they are frequently used for food, especially for milk. It is just a little more work because you have more surfaces.
You know, we don't all drink beer in Germany. Also, a tanker is pretty much the worst way to transport beer I can think of. With all the sloshing around and the pressure building up due to CO2.
KhataarFelMataar Surely they could just put some baffles down the length of it as well as from side to side. Then the unloading time would be unaffected.
Toasted Fan Art I wouldn't know I'm not knowledgeable on this subject. I just figured that it would result in bigger costs.. why else wouldn't they have made a solution for it? Hehe
KhataarFelMataar The dude in the video says how none of the examples have side to side sloshing protection, and that's it's dangerous. So I simply stated the obvious that if it's dangerous then they should make a solution. Adding baffles down the centre wouldn't cost much extra compared to the overall cost and also it's much cheaper than the cost of the truck tipping cos it didn't have the baffles.
I swear these recommendations are not automatic. I bet the odd ones are sent out by some employee that came in drunk thinking "ooooh, bulk heads, hehehehehe".
@@thrakerzad5874 I think so too, it's probably machine learning. Compares different titles/thumbnails/descriptions to the resulting boost in engagement. However, it's more fun to think it's some drunk employee :)
I'm here because I clicked a video. You mean you honestly don't know how you got here? Being prone to random blackouts and losses of short-term memory is likely an indication of a very serious medical condition. You should see your doctor.
I learnt to drive trucks in a rigid smoth bore tanker. I think i got thrown in the deep end from get go and just told not to roll it over and never did but had it on the lean a couple of times. Very strange feeling to drive and getting gear changes timed in with the surge took some getting used to.
I thought I was going over in a tanker once. Lil too fast in a curve and lightly moved over in my lane to give oncoming traffic more space, and then my butthole left a bite mark in the seat.
Well, thank you for teaching me about tankers. As a medical student, I don't know which part of my life I can use this information but it's already in.
YT just recommended me a vidio of this kind. But with no sound and comms desactibvated, then i watched another one, same as before. Then i watched this, that has sound and comms activated. Idk why i'm so happy
The same for me, youtube recommended me a video called Tank sloshing simulation, but have the comments turned off. I just want to say what the heck with CZcams recommendations? Lol
I even had serious problems with "liquid surge" when using a forklift to move partially filled drums and 330 gal. IBC totes. I lost one of my partial drum loads, which was filled with extremely expensive masking agent. I was lucky, to say the least! Where I was working, we were also moving drums of high strength hydrogen peroxide with the forklift. The masking agent incident totally changed my perception on forklift operating as relating to safety and materials transport/movement. Liquid surge can be deadly regardless of the transport scale!! I've had lots of forklift training/safety, but I don't recall any ever dealing with this liquid surge and related, on forklift.
Something most people don’t think about! But it’s actually quite logical to have those chambers to mitigate sudden changes in CoG during acceleration changes.
Thanks letting me know, I'll aware of that if I ever drive a 18 wheeler, but i can also be advised if im travel near a 18 wheeler which carrying liquids
Used to drive a smooth bore milk tanker though never knew it by that name. The worst was if you had only half a load of cream or something on as there was more room for the liquid to flow. Sure felt that at a roundabout or junction!
On straight road, sloshing is no problem. The real problem of breaking out sideways becomes a problem when strong braking happens while driving through a curve. If we prevent the liquid too strongly from coming to the front, the truck would literally "rail off" with its tailside. So this is a matter of proper balance between sloshing displacement and trailing stability.
hi people .. I just got my learner permit class A THIS week and I need some advises from you plz I m trying to get the HAZMAT later too is it worth it or not ? thx
Liquid surge can occur even with van trainers hauling barrels or totes of liquid. It is a weird feeling to come to a stop then lunge forward 3 feet then get shoved back again.
Solution would be to fill it up all the way? OR A device inside, or rather a sturdy balloon that inflates and covers the top side and "compresses" the water down slightly. I'm a genius! You may steal my idea, but I demand 95% of the profits!
Yes and yes. I drive large smoothbore tankers to haul milk. We try to take a full load as often as possible but if the dairy farm only has 8,000 gallons of milk and my tanker holds 10,000 there's nothing I can do. It's just gonna be a jerky ride all the way to the cheese plant.
I always thought smoothbores were only supposed to be used fully loaded (95%) or almost empty (15%). As with hanging meat, a 50% load would be a bit tricky.
I love random youtube knowledge
Tom Drozdowski Specially when you get here from a random drake and josh meme, that also popped up as a recommendation.
B0rikua45 “random”. Pretty much any YT meme randomly appears in anyones recommend now a days. Its meta now.
fuck Justin.Y lo that was the very first one I saw, I was like when did they go to Auschwitz?
fuck Justin.Y it was random to me since I never sin nor heard of it, specially seeing a video that was made last month.
fuck Justin.Y out of the couple I saw that one was the best one.
why was this suddenly recommended to me?..
I'll take it
Luna McLean I'd be the only truck driver driving with NerdOutMusic in the background lol

Idc what anyone sais I love their music
So. I live in Russia. Why i got it as a recomends?

Wow! Great. :)
It amazes me how much engineering goes into something most of us never think about. It just Baffles me.

Never thought simple tankers could be so complex to design 🙂

Common sense is enough to realize that.

It's weird that nobody has made a 4th kind, to help with the side to side motion.
Toasted Fan Art I thought that would come up next since they kept mentioning it.
Maybe there is a solution but it would increase the time needed to unload?

yeah cause CZcams algorithm employees just come in drunk all the time and make decisions that effect millions of people, completely unnoticed

Im here through a video i saw on reddit, ive been watching stuff about trucks for about an hour and idk why
This is some important information I was missing in my life. Thanks you CZcams recommendations system team.

Damn, what a learning experience and sobering at that! Smooth bores are scary AF! Thank you!
Being high i just want to take all the videos like this and combine them into a playlist and watch them to make me sleep and be cozy
Good to know for next time a see a tanker
trycoldman23 xDDD
I wish CZcams only recommended stuff like this.

I love how I was thinking about this on my drive to work, and what you know. Few later, it’s recommended on my CZcams
getting recommended videos like this is what makes me love CZcams
I learned a lot in 1min, good video.
one of my favorite videos on the internet
I made $2,200 last week driving Tankers , this the best video i seen by far
Thumbs up for awesome animations!

I didn't exactly want to watch this but it was far to interesting to just close...
Now I want to see more!
I work behind a desk and I am suddenly an expert in bulkheads and baffles.
Hi Sir, Can I Know For Diesel Fuel Load For Transport For Industries And Mining, Which Is Suitable??
12 years later and this is still a great video
Excellent! Thanks for this brief and very interesting video! :o)

Wow. I never even considered this when I see them. I never questioned that they weren’t just static like a semi
I didnt know that stuff until now. I appreciate more now the term "keep distance" sign on every tankers
Thanks letting me know, I'll aware of that if I ever drive a 18 wheeler, but i can also be advised if im travel near a 18 wheeler which carrying liquids
that was surprisingly interesting and thought provoking. thanks, youtube.
The animations are so hilarious idk why
I needed this information. Thank you
I like whoever animated the liquid
Thanks, this is great information to know in case I need to fill a bulkhead
Never knew I wanted this information, glad I clicked
Studying for my CDLs, ty this helped a lot
I haven't watched anything related to this yet this is somehow very relevant to me.

So now when you're driving next to a tanker you kinda know what that driver has to contend with; respect 'em.
this is exactly what i needed
i probably need these knowledges in the future to become a truck driver...nice recommendation
I don’t know why but I found this fascinating actually
I don't think i'll be operating a tanker trailer anytime soon but i appreciate youtube recommending me some knowledge
What about baffles but the compartments also go horizontally so same sort of idea but for side to side motion.

Wow beautiful video
I was watching videos about bicyclists who ride recklessly in traffic and with one click now I have learned something about tankers. I love youtube
I love that aggresive fluid physics
Whoa recommendations are the best
This is the most American educational video I've ever seen.
how DO you ID which with which just from looking???
Question: why not add a pair of longitudinal baffles to handle the sideways tipover issues?
hi people .. I just got my learner permit class A THIS week and I need some advises from you plz I m trying to get the HAZMAT later too is it worth it or not ? thx
do not take food from hippo. they have kill many from my village
Adam adam You can't get the hazmat endorsement with a permit
CZcams has been recommending this to me for ages now
CZcams just decided we need to know more about tankers
Liquid surge can occur even with van trainers hauling barrels or totes of liquid. It is a weird feeling to come to a stop then lunge forward 3 feet then get shoved back again.
Why not a version with some kind of a cover that automatically lowers to the amount of liquid in the vehicle? Wouldn't this eliminate liquid surge?
this one minute video gives better instructions than the drivers manual
I swear these algorithms know me better than I know myself.
CZcams recommendation is never fail to amaze me
I do have trouble with liquid surge.
Time to continue watching videos on tankers.
just fill it fully and nothing will shake
tehserenity a full tank of liquid can still shake
it will spill
furiousninja
Did u just under estimate welders and engineers to stop the spilling?
No I thought it would be pain in ass to seal it everytime.
furiousninja fill from the top, drain from the bottom. what's so difficult?
I like it to know this even if I would never need this information in my life.
What about spiral tanks? It reduces a lot of liquid surge forces
Thank u for this video need more
Excuse my lack of knowledge, but couldn't these tanks be pressurized in some way, or filled fully, so that the liquid can't swash around?
Top ten anime backstories
What the heck lol
Solution would be to fill it up all the way?
OR

in what way can the others not be sanitized?? or you mean it can't be sanitized as quick or efficiently?
Why do i have the striking feeling that this will turn into a meme
I don’t know why but it’s 12am and I’m watching videos about tankers
This maybe a stupid question, but, by filling the tankers to the full, would that eliminate sloshing? And if so, why not just carry full loads?
Yes and yes.
I drive large smoothbore tankers to haul milk. We try to take a full load as often as possible but if the dairy farm only has 8,000 gallons of milk and my tanker holds 10,000 there's nothing I can do. It's just gonna be a jerky ride all the way to the cheese plant.
question : why don't we fill 100% the tank so there is no more mouvment possible ?
So interesting!!
This may be a stupid question...but why not fill smooth bores to full capacity so the liquid can't move at all?
Great info.
2:30 in the morning...
Yup this is the appropriate time for this.
I use to love driving tankers. Kinda miss it
I always thought smoothbores were only supposed to be used fully loaded (95%) or almost empty (15%). As with hanging meat, a 50% load would be a bit tricky.
Ya learn something every day. Sometimes it’s something you didn’t know was interesting. 😂
Sad, the last Tanker animation in the recommendation list
And why not fill to the top so fluids dont move inside? Like tankers in the sea?
The water animation is hilarious.
I don’t know why this was recommended to me but I found it interesting anyways.
Why did i watch this... and why did i find it entertaining? What am i doning with my life? This video really made me think....
