The Hornady LNL Progressive press is a high volume progressive press. I hope this video helps. 76Highboy
I know this video is 7 years old, but feel good that 7 years later it’s still helping people! Thanks
The best part of this video IMO compared to all the other videos, is when your system started having problems. Why? Because you show & tell how to troubleshoot the problem. All the other videos (other than yours) have had no issues. On top of that, you told us what not to do. Great stuff man!!!
Thanks Bill for all this information. I bought one of these presses on recommendation from my brother, he says once it's tune up it runs like a dream. It's videos like this that help those of us who are not the most mechanically inclined.
Covered most of the problems with this press in 30 min when people on the forums try to figure them out it takes them weeks before they fix it. Your a wealth of information please continue to make these great vids.
@ 76Highboy, I bought a new Hornady lnl progressive press 2 weeks ago, I've been reloading with a single stage press for 20 years and finally pulled the trigger on a progressive. I watched several of your videos in the process of setting it up and done everything as u recommend and it works great! Your videos are the best on CZcams, I'd just like to tell you THANK YOU for all the help and advice, I couldn't be happier with the way it operates. Have a nice day!
Thank you. I'm just beginning to reload and already know that your tutorials are going to help me for many years to come. I have a brand new HL&L and want start and stay on a narrow path. Have a blessed day.
Make sure you join my forum Brad. If you run into a snag you can ask questions. Go to 76highboy.com
I want to thank you for taking the time making all those videos on Hornady AP press. I own one now from watching all your videos and did all the little details to help it run better appreciate all the videos you did. Thanks again it help me out a lot.
you know because of you i had to spend $600.....lol...i watched your videos concerning the Hornady L-N-L Progressive Stage Press... your videos are clear ...perfect sound...highly detailed...when i receive my Kit i am going to make sure i watch each video intensely...thanks for the great videos...
Thank you Gary. These video were my first and they were made at 2:00 in the morning on two different nights. They were off the cuff but they worked. I hope you enjoy your Hornady. Highboy
You are giving me a lot of great information about the AP Lock N Load. I bought one a few months ago and I wish I would have seen your videos before. It would have saved me trying to figure out some issues. Thank you very much for making these videos. I also like very much what you said about not beating yourself up with you make a mistake. I teach people how to shoot longbows and recurves, and I repeatedly stress how important that is. Thanks again Highboy! Very cool videos!
Man when i first started watching your LNL videos i thought my goodness this fella sure likes to say OK a lot.. But I have now watched them all at least three times and i would like to thank you for putting this info out there. You have helped me more than you will know getting my LNL set up and running smooth.. I recommend Hornady paying you to make them some videos!
+Craig Bonner These videos were made in the middle of the night because when I made them I used to travel. They were literally one shot takes with no script. It is difficult to be fluid with speak when trying to explain operation. Many CZcams channels cut and splice because of that but for me I do not.
Thank you Sir and I hope to chat with you more. Highboy
I so appreciate you showing all these problems and sharing your hiccups. That's how we learn in real time. I just bought my first AP. Can't find primers anywhere.
You're kindly welcome. For me personally I learn by hands on and by seeing. So yes that is how we learn in real time. You need yo join my forum. I built it. If you join use a fake name. The guys will alert everyone on where the primers and components are. Go to 76highboy.com
@@76Highboy Thank you so much. I will do that. I realize you have switched systems but I want you to know that you are by far the most informative channel I've found.

Just bought a Hornady LNL AP and someone suggested your CZcams page to me. WOW the wealth of knowledge you shared and that I’m learning from these videos is awesome!! THANK YOU!!!!
Thank you so much. If you want more info feel free to join my new gun forum. I just built it. Hope to see you there Joe. Highboy www.76highboy.com/index.php
Thanks for the tip on the lock washer. Also, I learned a lot, seeing how you pay so much attention to the feel of the machine. I think I have caused problems by trying to power thru problems rather than stopping and fixing the problem. Well done Highboy.
I just love all your videos on the lock and load. My press is now dialed in like it's supposed to be now. Thanks to you.
I know you moved to Dillon.. but these Hornady videos are fantastic for those with the red presses. You're an excellent instructor man! Thank you.
71Rcode... I do miss my Hornady. Thank you for the kind words. 76highboy.com

Yessir. Took a page of notes each on videos 1-4 tonite. Had to stop as my hand hurts...haaa. will refer to them prior to setting up the press and loading next time. Golden videos!
This series from Highboy helped me set up my Hornady press. I had never used a A/P press before. I still refer to it when things go bad.
Just started reloading and I got a Hornady Lock N Load AP. Your channel has been just as or even more important than my reloading handbooks. Thanks so much for putting up these videos!
+Reed Pitts Reed, thank you so much!!! I sure appreciate your encouraging words. I hope to get to know you and look forward to hearing how you progress along. Also, thefirearmsforum.com has a ton of wealth and, check out msrhunt.com. Keep me up to date sir. Highboy
+Reed Pitts Same here, No doubt he has a knack for teaching. If i ever have any questions, I'll come here first
Hey HighBoy, I just bought my press and thank you for your time to help me out.
I bought the LNL but haven’t used it yet. Just wanted to thank you for the time you spend to make it easier for inexperienced persons like myself.
Thanks Bill. I bought an AP Classic kit about 2 years ago. Hornady's Single stage press and learned to reload .270 ammo. Hadn't thought about adding the LNL until I saw it at Bass Pro. Now before I get one I came across this video you did and learned so much in these few minutes about progressive from your video here. You were on the money to reveal problems and your solutions to them. Invaluable.
Thanks so much and welcome to my channel. I believe we will get along good. Make sure to keep in tough. Highboy
great to see a local reloader, im new to this and just ordered the same press, got a rotary and vib tumbler- soon to get dies and shell plates for the calibers i need and rest of supplies.... thanks for the video's it helps me, watching alot of them

I Just stumbled upon your videos and I'm happy I did. Your learning together approach is exactly whats needed. I just got the Hornady LNL AP press and your videos will be an excellent guide for a new re-loader such as myself.
***** Thank you for your humbling comment!!! The greatest reward for me is getting to know subscribers such as yourself. I hope you enjoy reloading ammo my friend. Highboy
Bill was very helpful when I was first setting up my Hornady AP for 38 special. I haven't used my machine in a few months, and if I have questions, I will come ask him again for advice. Great guy with a ton of experience with this press.
MrZola1234 Thanks Mr. Zola. It is good to hear from you. I remembered your name. Have a great week partner!!! Highboy
Just bought this press I'll be watching all your other ones that pertain to this press and thank you for taking the time to pass on your knowledge I'm very thankful
I learned a lot from this video. I am getting ready to assemble my LNL AP this upcoming week and will be watching a rewatching your Hornady series. Thanks!
I have watched a few videos since subscribing an hour ago and see that you have come a long way since then. I honestly have to say you are one of the most honest and just over all good person I have sub'd. Keep up the great videos and hope all is good with you.
Thanks Mike. When I started my channel I did made my videos in the middle of the night and did it that way until two years later in 2015. My videos are never rehearsed, no scripts, and at two in the morning it is tough to collect the correct words so "Okay" get used quite a bit. I am nothing more than an average guy who is here to represent our Second Amendment and help those who want to reload. I am not a professional, and my friends here on CZcams are the absolute best.
Your comments are greatly appreciated.
Highboy
Came here on Johnny's Reloading Bench recommendation, great video wish I saw this when i first got my LNL. Keep up the good videos! You got a new subscriber.
I watched a good number of your videos, Helped me tremendously!!! Thanks a bunch, really appreciate your help, also not a foul word in all your help!!!
+phillip straight Thanks Phil. Your comment means quite a bit and I appreciate your words. make sure to say HI every once in a while my good friend. Highboy
I have been contemplating getting into reloading for a while now. Now that my wife is shooting as much as I am, I have realized that reloading is a must. The intimidating side of starting from scratch has kept me from it. Thanks to your videos I am ready to take the plunge. This is what I love about youtube and the shooting community. Yes there are idiots out there who only contribute snarky, time waisting remarks. That said, there are also those such as yourself, that are a true asset. Thanks my friend. subscribed and will keep watching...
+Jerry K Thanks Jerry, we have a good time on this channel. Don't worry about the snarky ones because I ban them, so have a fun time.
One thing I will tell you is I have many who struggle with the Hornady but I have not met anybody whom struggles with the Dillons. I have quite a few who have abandoned the Hornady altogether. I personally run the Dillon and if I did not have my channel I would not own the Hornady.
Highboy
Thanks for the reply. I will look into the Dillon and gauge things from there. I have heard good things about both of them. Nice thing is I am starting from scratch and not pro one or the other. I really do appreciate the reply..
Jerry
You've done a great job putting this series together. I am glad to have viewed the helpful information. I've had my press for about 1 year and I would have gotten through my set up issues easier and quicker if I had watched your videos first. Thanks for the great work, I look forward to your other videos too.

Well just realized you are recommending a lock washer too! I have been using it since 2013 and I love it
That's fantastic. Keep trucking, my friend. Highboy
In the first 2 minutes, you’ve solved every problem I was having. Thanks so much for making these videos
Your welcome. 76Highboy.com
Thanks for posting these. I have had many of these problems thinking it was something I was doing. Help a great deal.
Hi Bill, I have it on good authority that Santa is bringing me a LNL AP for Christmas so I was on some forums asking questions about setup and how to run it. I got many good answers but the one telling me to come watch your videos was by far the most helpful.
You match my laid back style and I like that you work through the problems on camera rather then making it run perfect off cam and just showing us a video of you pulling the handle.
Thank you for the help!
John, you just made my day and will fit in good here. I believe one thing you will appreciate about my channel is I am not concerned with subscriber numbers, instead I am here to make friends doing what we like to do. So, if you ever make a comment and someone begins harassing or bashing you let me know and I will ban them without notice. Your comment is very appreciated and I hope to get to know you. Also, I have a new video series where if you send me a pic of your bench setup I will put your bench in a video.
Make sure I get a report on Christmas,,, and enjoy.
Highboy
Bill Morgan The bench is still in the concept stage. I live in Florida and the garage is hot an HUMID so I am considering an area in the house. I am concerned with rust on the press and moisture and temp swings with the powder.
I understand that. I do have a series on my channel on how to build a bench. Go to my main CZcams page, click on "Playlist", then look for the series on how to build a bench. Have a good day John. Highboy
I have this press coming, so this was excellent to see before I even got my press. Thanks
You are welcome. Highboy
Thanks Jim. This is a great resource. I've had my LNL for several years but didn't use it for some time. Good video to come back to for a tune up.
Thanks Phil, I appreciate the comment. Welcome to my channel Sir. Highboy
Thanks. I actually discovered that before you even responded. I just finished watching the entire thing. It was very informative. I have done some reloading an an old rockchucker and am getting back into it. Going to get then Hornady LNL AP and been doing a lot of research. The videos of yours I have watched so far have been great. Love the safety disclaimer at the end. Thanks again.
Thanks so much for the positive comments. I hope to see you around and make sure to say HI. Hiughboy
Bill, I was reloading today on my LNL, and the damn plate was coming loose on mine every 30 rounds. Thought I should look for tips on CZcams and came across your hints. Outstanding job and I know tomorrow after using the lock washer that issue will be gone. Now on to looking at the rest of your hints. Thanks so much, and great job just baing real.
You are more then welcome my friend. Here is a link to a video that is the most informational. Enjoy. Highboy
Merry Christmas to all my friends on youtube and all the gun forums
Thanks, I too was having an issue with the shell plate loosening. Looking forward to watching your remaining four LNL vids.
Quick tip 1 - Fully tighten your shell plate before installing the case retention spring. If you don't do it in this order, you will squish and damage the spring and have to buy another one. May seem like common sense, but I've read about people having to replace them frequently.
Quick tip 2 - Use one of the screw holes on the back side of the press to run a wire to ground. This gives static electricity in the powder measure a place to go, which improves consistency in your powder charges. You can buy replacement 120V plugs from Home Depot or Lowe's. The round terminal is Ground.
I sure appreciate your hands on advice... these comments are what help the videos the most. Welcome to my channel and thank you so much. Happy New Year Sir. Highboy
Nice videos on the LNL AP , very helpful and thanks for posting them .
Bill, just wanted to thank you for the videos. Just getting started with my Hornady lnl ap and your videos have been a great asset.

Hi, new subscriber here, I have just ordered my AP press. New to progressive presses. this is the 1st video I have seen. i will watch them all. I just wanted to say you are the first to use magnetic trays to work with firearms...they are the bomb...especially if you are gun smithing....thanks Cmax
Welcome to my channel Cmax. I use the magnetic trays for about everything I work on. I always find a need for more of them, lol. I hope you enjoy your progressive press and I look forward to chatting with you Sir. Highboy
Very good and instructive video Bill...Your video on adjusting the indexing adjustments helped me solve some frustrations I was having yesterday with my new press.
Thanks - Kris
Kris Gachassin You are welcome Kris. I am glad you are getting it dialed in. Welcome to my channel and I hope to get to know you Sir. Highboy
Fantastic video and super helpful as I set up my LNL AP. Looking forward to your other vids. Thanks for spending the time putting this together!
You are very welcome and welcome to my channel. If you have questions feel free to ask. Highboy
Great videos. They have helped me clean up some of the bad advice I was given over the years through the various forums (putting a piece of steel under the primer ramp point).
I have noticed that a compression washer would come loose just as easily. I have also used star washers but they do scar the flat washer. I might go back to the compression washer to see if I was doing something wrong.
Really appreciate the videos and the candid nature of how to use the press. I have one on order so I'm currently in research mode to learn as much as I can before it arrives. I'll be binging the rests of your videos for sure.
Come join my Facebook group where you can ask questions and get them answered quickly by experienced reloaders. No one is put down for asking questions. BTW, thank you. Highboy facebook.com/groups/2011421259076530/

Great videos! Thank you for your work it helped me out a lot with my LNL press.
I am trying to decide which press to buy for my first. I am 60yrs old on a very tight budget and would perfer not to start out then upgrade later, if I can. I am considering a progressive. Thanks for all the info on your channel it is definatly helping me make up my mind. Keep up the GREAT work.
Your welcome Ron. I would recommend the Dillon RL550C. Not as expensive but caliber change over can be, For that reason you may want to check out the Redding T7 Turret. It is nor a progressive but can put quite a bit of ammo down range in a short time. Highboy
Can you please tell me what a Dillon caliber change over costs compared to others? Thanks for your time.
Good stuff Bill. I just got the LNL also and can't wait to get it up and running. Thanks for the great vids.
Love your videos. Got a LnL waiting to be set up and I'm sure this will make it a lot easier. Thanks
Hi April. I am sorry I have missed your post. Thanks for the kind message and I hope you say Hello here on my channel. How is your press working? Highboy
dude your videos helped me out so much thank you for taking the time to do them
awsome info bill......... i sure wish everyone was laided back as you. i learned alot, headed out soon to pick my first press up, grab everything at once n holds no barr lol cheers mate
Thanks buddy your videos helped me out again I’m still using the hornady press
Just got the AP... Thank you for the tips!! I'll definitely be adding a lock washer... Just because I didn't see it, you can use the deluxe Hornady wrench lobe to hold the shell plate while loosening or tightening.
Great video on this topic. It’s great to have instruction that does not assume I already know a lot.
Awesome video! Been debating between Hornady LNL AP and a Dillon. You got me sold on the Hornady. Thanks!
Your welcome Sir and thanks for saying Hi. Highboy
Thank you. You have all of the same problems that I do with the LNL. And, you fixed them.. Great video.
Great videos 76Highboy, thanks for taking the time to show what you've learned with this press. I've looked into a lot of brands but was leaning toward the Hornady and this video helps narrow my choices. I'll definitely add you to my favorites list. I was on a gun supply website and someone mentioned your videos and I'm glad I read the reviews. Just to be sure, which progressive reloader would you recommend? I noticed in your description you wouldn't recommend this press. Thanks again 76Highboy!!
+Frank M Jr I don't recommend any products to anyone. I only show how they work. Highboy
Jim, very nice and informational video, I have the same press with case and bullet feeder and was having problems. Saw your video and solved my hang up problems, thanks for taking the time to explain it so well. Nice job!
You are more then welcome Fred, I am glad they helped. Say Hi every once in a while.
Excellent video Bill. I am looking forward to seeing more of your videos. I have a Lee Classic Turret press and have more than paid for it in ammo costs. I wanted so much to get the LNL AP when I was looking into reloading as a hobby. I chose the cheaper route to see if I would really like reloading or not. My son got the LNL AP so now I'm envious and may get one myself if I can smooth it over with my wife. I'm hooked on reloading for a hobby now and if I manage to get a LNL AP your videos will be priceless. I am retired so speed is not required, but I sure love how the press runs. Thanks again for an excellent job.
FYI, in my videos it does not matter what the folks all reloads on. Everyone is invited and well appreciated. Thanks for the positive comment. Highboy
I was having this problem with my shellplate. Thanks from another reloader in the boise area.
+Mtene1 You are so welcome and from one reloader to another thanks back my friend. make sure to stop in and say hello every once in a while. Highboy
Just ordered a LnL press. I figured it was time to upgrade from my Lee single stage. You've got some good videos here, sir. I'll be looking at these in a few months when I'm setting mine setup. Sub'd. Thank you.
Thanks for jumpin in on the comments Nick. Have a great day!!! Highboy
i've run many 10's of 1,000's of rounds through my LnL, great machine. Like you, I really enjoy the reloading process, no need to rush it. Sometimes I think I need to go shoot so I can load some more ammo...
But do work on the OK thing, it's just a habit you can break and it's distracting.
Thanks for the video Jim. It was a bit long but you shared a lot of good info there. I've got the LNL but I haven't been running it for awhile because I fell into a deal I couldn't pass up on a dillon xl650. And I can tell you that I have had more issues running it than the LNL. But I'm getting it smoothed out now. You have to learn your machine. Each brand has it's issues as you said.
I am setting my LNL back up to do 223 and 300blk and I have some issues that I didn't see when doing pistol rounds and came across your video. I had already put a lock washer on and just like you I found it solved a lot of problems. I like the priming system on the LNL over the xl650 too. But the case feeder on that xl650 is really nice for me.
I, like you, recommend the LNL. Like I said I fell into a great deal on the dillon but caliber conversions are so expensive in comparison, I'm not sure I should have taken that jump. That's why I'm setting the LNL back up for the rifle rounds.
blueeyephil Hello Phil, My videos are not short and they are not for everyone. However, I have many, many subscribers who are successfully hand loading because of my videos so I know they are working.
I started with the LNL and now have the Dillon XL650, the RL550B, and the SDB. I will know in about a month which I prefer. The XL650 or the Dillon.
Welcome to my channel. Highboy
I've watched your videos and you really seem to have the press dialed in. I have had mine for three months now and I've never managed to get the thing to work as smoothly as yours seems to. The shell plate will not constantly index consistently and no matter how many hours I spend fine tuning the indexing lugs, the problem never goes away. I no longer reload with this press.
My press has always ran good but unfortunately you are not the only one who has these issues. This is why I state in my videos that I do not recommend it. Also, so far, I have not had any of my guys who run the Dillon's experience any thing like this and no one ever tells me what you just said.
My Dillon RL550B is three times the press for close to the same money. And yes, maybe a bit more money but you will surely be loading ammo and it is match grade.
One last comment. Some viewers believe I am out to de-rate Hornady. Not so. It is just very frustrating when I try so hard to help the Hornady guys and they still struggle.
I regret ever starting my channel with Hornady.
Highboy
Learning all this on my own being a first gen re-loader. Your videos are gold. I have so many questions. I have 12 rounds that I triple checked throughout my first reload. I did each step like a single stage press because I didn't want to mess anything up. Still kind of sketchy to shoot them the first time, which I have not shot yet.
Hey brother, I can help. Come on over and let me know this is you in the introduction thread. I will help you Sir. Highboy www.76highboy.com/index.php
Good video Sir. Thanks for taking the time to produce it. Take care, be safe!
***** You are quite welcome. I appreciate your comment and hope to get to know you. Take care and be safe as well my friend. Highboy
Thanks bud. Have a good day and thanks for watching.
Great video. I have only had my press for a short time and only have had a chance to de prime ammo for cleaning. The shell plate has loosened up a few times already. I will try this lock washer and hope it helps. It was nice to see a video where everything does not go smoothly so you can see how to fix issues.
+Glock2201 Your welcome but I guess you were not aware of rule #11 on my channel. If your user name has the word Glock in it you are to send me one. Hey, rules are rules and I have to stick by them. LOL... Thank you so much and welcome to my channel. Highboy
+76Highboy Reloading (Highboy Reloading) LOL I must have missed your rules. I found the problem was more from bulging in the brass rather than a loose shell plate.
Thank you for all your experience and educating us it.

Hi Paul, thanks for watching my videos. I do put a tiny bit of lubrication on the bottom roller bearings. Use a newer advanced gun oil, and just a little will do it. Stay away from grease. IMO, too messy.
Have a good one Paul.
Thank you for a realistic video. I am new to reloading, and I purchased the same press as you. I hope I will be able to solve my problems as well as you. Again ,thank you
Well done. The lock washer works well. Keep up the great work Sir.
the exact reason I came to this video. I will be installing the lock washer on mine asap. I was getting hangups every 15 rounds or so. Hope it works.
I leave the primer tube assembly about a half turn loose (per a suggestion on some forum), and I stick a section of GI cleaning rod on the fiberglass rod for a bit of extra weight on the stack of primers. I've never had an issue since with the primer feeding.
Good Video! Have a suggestion though, put a mark or tape on your primer ram ( the fiber stick that notes primer quantity) that will be obvious when your tube is empty.
I learned a few things and the lock washer suggestion is a good one. Subscribed.
Thanks Andrew. It's nice to have you on board and I hope to see you in more comments. Highboy
Nice video, I just ordered that press this morning and even though I knew there might be issues, I just love that press and you can't really beat the price. That Harbor Freight flashlight is a good investment too, I have two of them and two strip flashlights too. I also purchased rechargeable batteries for them, highly recommend it.
I do not own this press any more but if you have questions or need help feel free to join my forum and ask questions there. WE have a few guys who have the latest Hornady model and are very good with it. Ask for Critter.. he is really good with it. 76highboy.com
But, I will try and help you the best I can, gun brother. Highboy
Great videos, thanks for explaining in depth, 👏
Cool vid. Thanks for taking the time. That pace looks about right to me.
BTW That's one nice press.....

My pace is kind of slow so we should get along. Lol. Thanks so much and have a nice week Sir. Hope to get a chance to chat with you. Highboy
What a fine job you've done on this video Bill, I've gone through the same issues on mine. BUT…I still love my turret press the most! It just makes one fine cartridge over and over again whereas my Automatic will make a bushel of cartridges sometimes badly and I have to dissassemble them all to find the squibs or double charges…"You boys out there who are just starting out…start with a turret press and you will never regret it!…………………………………….charlie irby
I have been off work recovering from shoulder surgery and found your videos. I have a LNL press but due to work and other stuff, it is still in the box. I am planning on getting it up and running here within the next few months. I have all my shell plates and dies, I just need to get to reloading.
I hope you recover and get back on top. I hope my videos help and let me know how your recovery hours. And, oh ya, no cage fighting until the doc says ok. Lol. Highboy
Great instructional video and cool as a cucumber, thanks for taking the time and effort.
Best regards Stretch
Thanks Stan. Sorry I missed your post and I hope to see you in more comments Sir. Highboy
Great videos thank you for the great information subbed
Bill,
Your videos are fantastic. Thank you for all your time, work, and effort that goes into these! I just started reloading on my own and got the L-N-L based on research and your videos have been an immense help.
I do have one question that I have not seen addressed in the videos thus far. When going from the resize die letting the shell down the shell plate does not cycle all the way to center to seat the primer. I have lubed the ball detents with oil and it is clean. I can seat the primers fine I just have to push the plate into place (maybe 1/4" clockwise).
Sounds like a few other people have had similar issues so I figured I would run it by you. Any help or advise would be greatly appriciated.
The reason you are experiencing this issue is the adjustment pawls may be off a bit. I will be doing a video on this shortly and I will cover this issue. For now though call Hornady and they will instruct you on how to adjust them, and how much. It is a simple fix and it good to know. Keep an eye out for the upcoming video.

Another nice video. I just ordered this press and could use all the help I can get. Lots of good ideas. I have reloaded for 2 years now on a simpler press but now am stepping up to the big boys. God help me.
You have been reloading for two years? So are you going to take over doing these videos? Come on, we need a guy that really knows what he's doing. LOL. Thanks for the comments and make sure you say Hi. Highboy
Good vid and great attitude. I just bought the same press and really like it.
Thank you for the positive comment. Are you going to start making these videos so I can begin learning how to reload? LOL,,, Highboy
