  • May the Road Rise up to Meet You is one of the best known of all Irish blessings. Here we read it to wonderful Celtic music and images of Ireland. We then look at the meaning of the blessing, why it confuses some people and how it may have changed over the years.
May the road rise up to meet you,
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
The rains fall soft upon your fields.
    And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of his hand.
This version of May the Road Rise up to Meet You is the widely used English translation, taken from the original in Irish, written long ago. No one knows just how long. Some people believe it was written by St Patrick himself because it’s similar to some of his writings, with its simple religious theme and its references to nature.

No mystery around the the provenance of “May the road rise to meet you” as it nearly directly translates from Irish “Go n-éirí an bóthar leat”. May you have success is a different blessing,” Go n-éirí an t-ádh leat”, literally meaning ,May the luck arise with you. Hope this helps

I think you’re not understanding the poetry of the poem in a spiritual way. It low key quotes the Bible.
