You can argue Anquan Boldin's career was shortened by getting his face broken, but it wasn't "cut short". He suffered the injury in his 6th season. He played 8 more excellent seasons after that injury and was a significant contributor to the 2012 super-bowl winning Ravens team. More than half his total yards receiving came after the injury.
The insult to Zach Miller's injury is that the officials reviewed the touchdown and overturned the call to an incomplete pass, saying he didn't have full control, even though every camera angle showed Miller had full control of the ball when he came down and had full possession throughout the process.

I only remember a few details of this one. The injured player was a linesman for the Detroit Lions when Barry Sanders was still active. I think his first name was Reggie and the injured body part was his neck. It's the only time I've seen an ambulance come ONTO the field. It was said that the Lions' top-notch medical staff literally saved his life. He never played again. Can someone with a better memory than me fill in the blanks?
Reggie Brown. Temporarily paralyzed on the field. As far as I can find, there is no footage anywhere of it. He's alive and walking today. The Ford family set him up with a company job, but he's a stay-at-home dad in Texas now. The trainer at the time was the same guy from when Chuck Huges had a heart attack and died in-game.
