You would have QBs chucking it at refs to avoid a sack, RBs making contact to avoid a loss, or DBs intentionally tripping over a ref when they get burned. I don't think you want to create any incentive to physically contact a ref.

David Erickson No, it’s pretty obviously when there is referee interference or not. If anyone of those aforementioned scenarios happened, it wouldn’t have any effect on the play. If a QB about to get sacked throws a ball at a ref, you can rule it as intentional grounding or claim it as a sack from the spot where he threw the ball. Simple
