I have 1 built in 1982. It's a tackdriver. I 've found the CCI mini mags to be the most accurate ammo for my old beast. Mine will fire shorts, long ,and Lr. Has never let me down!
Mine was made in 95 it was my first gun. Its very accurate and I love it! Thousands and thousands of rounds have been through it and not one single problem.
Good Video. I have the same model, but mine was made in 1995. I have found it to be extremely accurate (at shorter distances) and perhaps more importantly, capable of digesting any kind of .22 Ammo (which cannot be said for many semi-autos). Keep up the good work!
I have a 25N Marlin that I love. It's very accurate. It's really broke in after over 20k of ammo thru it. Longest kill on a rabbit is 120 yards. It's smooth and reliable. Light trigger. The disassembly is simple especially the bolt. Genius compared to a lot of 22 rifles. Stay away from the Remington ammo. It's just garbage. So inconsistent. I had a case head separate once and blow the mag out and turn it to junk shooting Remmy. Anyway not likely you'll wear it out shooting. My roosters are annoying as well but make great soup! :-) take care!
Lol the roosters sure would be better in a pot! I seemed to have the best luck with the federal ammo. I do need to do something about the heavy trigger. Or I just need to shoot it more to get used to it. I’m not sure why it hasn’t been shooting as good as it usually does. Maybe something happened to the scope? Thanks for watching!
@@Johnsplots I've had great luck with American Eagle copper HPs, Geco lead RN, and most Aguila. I just brought home 200rds of CCi Green Tag, which I had no idea was so stupid expensive, but I'd asked for it to be brought into the local store so I bought it. I'll try to let you know if it was worth it.
Thanks for the reply John. I've used a ton of federal and it's good stuff. CCI blazer and standard velocity very good too. Excellent results with Aguila S.V. as well. I used to see replacement triggers, could check on that. Otherwise Very light parts polishing may do the trick. Mine had a very heavy trigger that was nasty, and with constant everyday shooting it smoothed out and is pleasing to use now. Your scope can be checked by bagging the rifle solidly and whilst looking thru the scope at a target for reference, carefully dry fire and watch for any bounce or movement of your cross hair. If it jumps and settled laterally from where it was that will cause a slightly wandering zero from shot to shot. I recently thoroughly cleaned mine after like a case of ammo went thru it, and as I completely disassembled the rifle including scope, I found screws that were loose... since I cleaned it and reassembled it's been a tack driver, so you might check screws as well. I know this is a long message, but I love shooting mine and I'm set up like you out in the country. I shoot almost every day. I hope this information might help. It's really a great rifle. Very underrated.
I like the cci as well. I might have to do some polishing and change the scopes to see if the other one makes a difference. Thanks for the info! I love my 25N! Enjoy your weekend.
Cool deal, I have the same model 25N, received it 20 years ago as a birthday gift from my dad. Back before the ammo scares, I put brick after brick of ammo through it. The gun is a better shooter than I am!
+Andy W that's about when I got mine. Got it for xmas. I would shoot it everyday after school. Like you, I put brick after brick through it. Thanks for watching!
I bought a 25N new, many years ago.. The serial starts with 09 so I guess it makes it a 1991.. I have probably only shot 25 rounds through it.. I didn't like the drab brown stock so I removed the finish and stained it with a red cherry and then used a gloss Poly to seal it up.. Last fall I put a scope on it and tested it and it did not do too well - probably about a 2" group at 25 yards (My Hatsan pellet rifle can do hole in hole at 25 yards - lol), using some High velocity Remington ammo, maybe standard ammo may work better.. The trigger is terrible hard.. So I guess this coming summer I will change out the trigger spring and I may free float the barrel and see it that helps (also gonna try some low velocity ammo).. I guess since it has only been fired 25 times total, that maybe after a couple hundred rounds the barrel may season and break in.. Time will tell..
I have an old model 25 made in the 1960s Trigger was horrible so i modified it ,not saying how, and free floated the barrel . Trigger is still not as good as a modern one but much better than stock . From a good solid rest and a 9 power scope it shoots a ragged hole at 50 yards with ammo it likes , CCI mini mags, .22 are strange keep checking different rounds some will shoot good others look like you shot target with a shotgun. Good luck
I have a Marlin 780 which is about the same as yours. It is very fussy about the ammo that it shoots. Federal Champion target is under an inch at 50 yds. and Federal Champion 40 grain in the BYOB carton shoots all over the place(5"-6") CCI 36 grain target is about 2" and Winchester super x h igh velocity 40 grain shoots under an inch.
I'm surprised the cci is that bad. I think I need to buy several different types and do some testing. I'm sure the same ammo that I used to shoot 15 years ago isn't made exactly the same today. I'll have to try the Winchester super x that does well in yours along with the federal target. Thanks for the information!
how much for your scope was it pretty reasonable i have a 25n i picked up for 20 bucks but it was missing a magazine andnthe breech bolt assembly now looking to bulild it as alil project mine has synthetic stock im trying to find reasonable price on the bolt assembly but its a bit hard to find many online at all also looking for asvise for scope scope mounts and or even open sights it is also missing front and rear sights but gonna attach a scope anyways thanks
+dane ICheatz I don't know what the price of the scope was. It was on the gun when I got it as a gift many years ago. The magazines aren't too hard to find but I'm sure it'll be tough to find the bolt without having to buy the entire gun. Never know, you might stumble across one. I would stick with a fixed 4 power scope, that's what I have. No need for anything more than that. Your less expensive scope rings will do just fine since there isn't any recoil. Good luck With it and thanks for watching!
if you are still looking, Cabela's is having a sale right now for there 3-9 power scope. its a verry nice scope for the price. It even has bullet drop marks.
I have two model 80 rifles no s/n on either one the oldest one does not have the micro groove barrel, the newer one does I think the newer one dates back to the early 50s and the older one to the 40s
Would I be better off just replacing the scope? I was actually thinking about this just the other day. I know my groups were so much better when I first got the gun. And the barrels has been cleaned.
My 25N was made in 1996. My mom bought it for me when I was a kid. It’s the first firearm that I taught my kids to shoot with. ❤

Really enjoyed watching video could watch yours all day.. rooster was the star of the show had me laughing thank you for great video!
Lol. That old rooster is still alive and well, crowing everyday! Thanks for watching. Glad you enjoyed the video.
CCI standards seem to work the best for mine (marlin 25N)
I have one, my great grandfather bought it for my dad when he was 13, and he gave it to me a few days ago
Nice! It's a great gun. Enjoy it!

Do not dry fire your .22! Doing so may peen the chamber or break the firing pin...use an empty cartridge or snap cap...just sayin'...liked your video
Yea do not dry fire your .22. It is shooting just fine
Funny. I got the same rig. Same box of old ammo. Same miss fire. Good video lol

what scope rings?

They're the perfect squirrel gun!
You should try federal match grade ammo I get dime size groups all day at 50 yard with it out of my marlin xt22tsr
Your results look typical of starting out with a clean barrel and after about 25 to 50 rounds your accuracy stabilized.
I don't shoot anything that's high velocity without the copper coating, it always causes lead fouling eventually.
Good point!
My first digits are 98 and 98-100=-2 so what year would it be? 2002?
Just subtract the first two numbers of the serial number from 100. 100 minus 02=98, 1998. He just said it backwards.
I get one inch grouping at a 100 yards .. all day
Ive got a model 20
Close to the same thing, but older, I believe?
Check your scope ..might have a loose inner retaining ring .. you should have better groupings ..
Would I be better off just replacing the scope? I was actually thinking about this just the other day. I know my groups were so much better when I first got the gun. And the barrels has been cleaned.

Mirco grove marlins like 40 grain
