    The tomato I planted in the video is called a Thai Pink Egg. It is a beautiful little tomato with light pink flesh and the skin resembles a pink pearl. Very pretty and mild acid.

    This is how I remember indeterminate versus determinate. The “I” is long and tall and the “D” is short and squat.

    Hello, ma'am! New subbie here enjoying your videos. Thanks for sharing your tips and tricks with us! I'm more confident now in trying to plant my cilantro from seed and I think they're growing better as direct sows. My first try was a fail and the sprouts became too leggy. Also, I'm on the quest to find coarse vermiculite locally. lol! The end of the video was so neat to see the progression of your garden even through the seasons. I love it!! Be blessed!

    Thanks for another great video. I saw another video where they laid the tomato sideways a day or two prior to planting and the plant turned up to the sun. Just thought I would share, it seemed like a good idea. God Bless.

    • @RainbowGardens
      @RainbowGardens  Před 7 lety

      Yes, I do it that way sometimes too. This plant was flexible so it was easy to turn the tip up a bit. However, had it been more rigid, I would have just left it on it's side and it would grow straight up towards the sun.

    Very clear and succinct video. Exactly what I needed to know/see regarding how to grow the indeterminate tomatoes up my trellis. I was confused because they don't have tendrils like the squash and melons. I was also very pleased to see your soil! I think I haven't been mixing mine to be "loose" enough even though I've tried diligently to go by the 1/3, 1/3, 1/3 proportions of mel's mix.
    On your indeterminant tomoatoes, do you remove the suckers that grow in the V between a stem growing off the main stalk and the main stalk? Thanks!

    Love that acccent. lady...ta for the ideas. The only thing stopping us is our lack of imagination, and those looking on who are negative, and jealous because we are doing something they can't do..but they too could, if they tried. I just don't listen to people like that. If an idea can be done being smarter, instead of working harder, to achieve the same result, you can guess it ain't gonna be the hard working ideas...that is so old fashioned.

    I have two of the trellis’ like that. I bought mine at Hobby Lobby or JoAnn fabric store in the wedding department. I think they were around $40 but with their 40% off coupon they are pretty cheap. I keep mine up year around with white lights. I add a small Christmas tree under it at Christmas time!

    I am really enjoying all of your square foot garden videos. Do you worry about cross pollinating by planting more than one variety of tomato in a square foot garden?

    • @RainbowGardens
      @RainbowGardens  Před 7 lety +1

      Hi,
      No as I rarely grow the same variety types of tomatoes. However, if I happen to grow two types of, let's say, potato leaf, then i "bag the blossoms" to keep them from crossing. I will try to do a video on it next growing season. Thanks so much for watching.

    Thanks for this video. I was thinking that maybe a cattle panel might work for a trellis. It seems to made of type of heavy duty fence wire and can bend to form the trellis. Just a thought. I saw someone use it to make a small green house. Anyway, I always enjoy your videos, they are very helpful.

    • @RainbowGardens
      @RainbowGardens  Před 7 lety +1

      Many people use cattle panels for tomato trellises. They are too cumbersome for me and I like the look of the arches better through my garden - I suppose it is just a matter of taste. :)

    • @RainbowGardens
      @RainbowGardens  Před 4 lety

      Very carefully, or yes, it could break. The smaller tomato plants are easier to plant and do not require laying it on the side.

    How many tomato plants do you plant per box or next to eachother? I read only 4 per 4x4 box but I have tons of plants this year and don’t know how to plant them all 😢

    • @RainbowGardens

      One per square, best on the north side of your bed so it won't shade your other pkants. Get indetetminate type.

      You gave me an idea, maybe I should try hanging garlic in the garden to keep the pests away - ha, (it is suppose to work for vampires !)

    • @tmiller1003
      @tmiller1003 Před 7 lety

      Rainbow Gardens Lol, we have to keep those vampires out of the garden somehow! I hope the garlic works on zombies, too, we have a lot of them in California. All kidding aside, I will start using old socks (Hoping to keep the rats away). They ate so many tomatoes last year. Now this year my problem is blossom drop like crazy. Always somethin!
