    Thanks for the tips, especially covering tomato plants from rain. I am a little low on funds right now (I'm on a very fixed income) to make the hoop house, I need to create a few more wicking tubs for potatoes. If I find the money it would be perfect for my 14 wicking buckets with tomatoes.

      You can do it! few bucks for lumber and the plastic cover and you are set. I managed to build mine under 100$ (but I know that the price can very from country to country). Wish you all the best and I am glad I could help with the tips!

    There's a lot of good tips jammed into this video. Great job. I suggest you try the egg trick for several seasons in a row before making final judgements as it takes many months for the egg to break down into a usable calcium source. You will see the most benefit in the years to come.

    Good system! A few questions: Was the cement used just to plug the hole in the pot? Where are you located, what is the climate? How tall is your trellis? Do you use clips, or just wind the string around the stems? And I would love to see a video on how to build the trellis!

    • @SmallGardenQuest
      @SmallGardenQuest  Před 4 lety +11

      Thank you!
      The cement was used just to plug the hole yes.
      I am located in Slovenia zone 7b.
      My trellis is somewhere around 7 feet tall.
      I just wind the tomato around the string.
      I have shown how to build my tomato hoop house in the previous video and in it I attached the poles that I have used now to attach the trellis "contraption" that I shown how to build in this video. But I will make a s aparate video on how to build and trellis your tomatoes soon.
      Hope I helped 😊

    An older man I met at the hardware store told me they sprinkle powdered milk in the hole when planting tomatoes so they won't get blight.

    If 1 pot/4 tomatoes, that leaves 1 foot squares Along the front and back with what In them?

  • @Kylie4Queen

    Also, does your trellis system only work if the tomatoes are single stemmed?

    • @SmallGardenQuest
      @SmallGardenQuest  Před 4 lety +1

      Nice question. It can work with multiple stems but you need to have multiple strings and it would be harder to move the the trellis

    The egg thing is the silliest thing I've ever seen. A literal pinch of slow release fertiliser is a million times better. And far, far cheaper!

    • @michellej9638
      @michellej9638 Před 2 lety +1

      Cheaper than free? Because he got the eggs for free.

  • @jeffscott8323

    Can you just use the egg shells and not the whole egg. Cause I want to eat the eggs. But I have been saving the egg shells. And all my kitchen scraps. Dump in coffee cans. The dump in garden spot.

  • @moepharmo
    @moepharmo Před 4 lety +1

    So how did the Egg thing work, I think if you used blood & bone it would have been cheaper and a better effect. Also your Olla pot is made incorrectly you should have used double planters to have passive diffusion by sealing the planter whole with a cork. If oxygen can only pass through the natural porous holes your water will last 3-4 times longer & your method is more likely to lead to root rot.

    • @SmallGardenQuest
      @SmallGardenQuest  Před 4 lety +3

      Thank you for leaving your opinion. After one month of using my ollas I can say I build them correctly. The water stays in the pot for one month and the airs comes from the top. The lid doesn't seal off completely the pot. And this ways of making them is much simpler and cost effective :)
      Regarding the egg I don't know if it works or not. Its to soon to tell. Now all the tomatoes looks fine. I used eggs because my mother in law has chickens and for me eggs are free and I don't want to introduce foreign amendments to my garden. You never know what those animals have eaten :)

    Some of this is good, most of it is nonsense. The wounds you're causing by cutting the branches overall will offset any gains from a longer root stem. In reality all you're doing is putting the root cluster further down, meaning it won't catch small showers and top run off. The style of rooting you get from the stem is insufficient in the medium term.
