  • During Tweetsie Railroad's Heritage weekend, they open up the locomotive shop once each day for guests to enter and get a behind the scenes look. This is the only chance you will get on a typical operating day to see inside the shop! This shop works on both of the park's steam locomotive engines as well as all the rides you see in the park. But Tweetsie doesn't just work on their own machines. Because of their unique specialty in this area, they have also done work on trains and mechanical pieces coming from many other parks, including Dollywood, Busch Gardens, and even Disney!

The wheel press at the end of the shop that is used to press wheels off and on the axles is the same size as at the Huckleberry RR in Flint, MI. It came from the Quincy Mine RR shops in Hancock, MI.

Awesome video, it’s great to mitre information on the maintenance of trains and what goes into even a simple train from an amusement park

I work at Six Flags St. Louis, as you said in your description they work with a lot of theme parks on their engines. We actually just got a driver axle back from them a few weeks ago for our own locomotive, the Tommy G. Robertson. It’s set to reopen for the very tail end of the operating season here pretty soon.

That’s so cool! I love that such a small park can have such a big impact, especially for more well known parks.

I remember Tweetsie overhauling the locomotives of the Walt Disney World Railroad from 2003 to 2004. Now each locomotive is being overhauled at Strasburg Railroad as it’s time to replace there original Dixon built boilers replaced.

So cool how such a small park is so specialized that much larger parks need them to work on their trains/engines.
