Gimle VS. PROJECT BROADSWORD - From the Depths Battleship Battle

    Gimle Open Seas Build Rules:
    - Naval ships or low flying airships. Your submission should work in a naval setting but cannot submerge, it also can't fly higher than 500m if it is an airship.
    - No cheese, like no 1m tetra spam filled areas for aim spoof, no internal waterpropellers or azipods, no spincliping and all those other usual cheese tactics are banned.
    - Max 100K blocks
    - No extreme missile or interceptor spam (hint: use mediums and not so manny smalls)
    - No waterpumps or heliumpumps what so ever, like not a single one can be present on your build.
    - Under 2.2 million cost: that means 2.1XXX not 2.2XXX
    - Max 2 Repair Bots
    - No spawners/drones/docked crafts
    - No extreme subobject spam (like 200 dif guns)
    - No intentional melee
    - No video screens and cameras present on the battleship (the one that makes captains see when there is no windows)
    - Ship can not play video our audio sources during battle. (includes YT video players etc)
    - When submitting the ship, any lights and smoke generators should be switched off and not activate during the battle since they cause unnecessary lag, if you have a decorated version with interiors etc we should check out please submit one "battle version" where laggy stuff is turned off and one "parade version" that looks cool with all its lights, video players or cameras and smoke effects etc enabled and working.
    Btw: if your ship lags too much I will not be able to use it. If your ship breaks the rules the battle will be cancelled.
    - Deadline: Open submission.
    - Ships must be submitted to me via Discord DM or Email, send the .blueprint file, not a workshop link.
    Battle Rules:
    - The battles will be best of three.
    - All ships will spawn with the bow towards Gimles bow, gimle is a one sider, but it still spawns nose to nose, make your ship manouverable enough to avoid a collission. This rule is because the ships will close in on eachother and that is much more entertaining than far away orbiting battles (thanks Menti!), if you want that, spend on manouverabillity and speed, because you are not getting optimal orbit for free.
    - Given 500K materials.
    - You need to be able to win within 15 minutes of ingame time per battle.

    Those were BRUTAL fights. I think one of the Gimle's big strengths is that it can take a _beating_ and still remain combat-viable. Buuuuut, when you have over a dozen 500mm machine guns flinging frag rounds like candy, that strength can only go so far.

    Thats an awesome load of firepower. Even if the shells didnt need to go too fast even. That volume of firepower is just nasty to anyone facing it.

    This fight was pretty cool, all the frag popping off is really satisfying.
    As for the ship analysis: i think (besides the weaponry) the biggest winning factor for the broadsword was its angling and hullshape. If you watch the battles again, during all 3 matches you will notice that all of the 4 rear turrets remained intact the whole fight. I dont think thats coincidence, it you look at the broadsword from the gimles POV you notice that the middle "bulb" of armor serves as an extremely thick damage sponge for the last portion of it due to its broadside angle.
    Thats why, even in the second match (which was the closest fight of the three) where the broadsword had no functioning guns on the front anymore, the 4 rear turrets just kept going.
    As for ship improvement ideas for the broadsword: use less guns but space them out further; sometimes 1 cram from the gimle took out 3 turrets, which is wasteful considering how much aps systems cost. Use the extra saved materials to add a similar bulb that the middle had to the front of the boat to protects the front set of turrets. Dont put main turrets on the front bulb (its a damage sponge), instead, put DIF flaks on there: by the time they are destroyed, they wont have shells left anyway and thus served their purpose.
    I think this way you will have slightly less firepower, but the turrets will survive like 3 times longer, effectively massively increasing firepower over the course of the fight.

      as for you ideas the creator did in comments tell that it uses passive evasion, this is absolutely the most deciding factor, there is no stopping doom crams like the gimle has but the broadsword evades most shots, that was a awesome strat!

    lmao, youre right that i should paint the broadsword a little, but i also absolutely hate painting and have never done it

      You could also do armour refit and replace all metal with metal of different colour

    This is an interesting fight, but I just feel like this fight is a little bit sad for the Gimle.
    For me the "Project Broadsword" seem like it was slapped together just to straight up counter the Gimle, no paint scheme or more details then just a couple Decos on the barrel and a single radar tower.
    but still, a winner is a winner.
    But that is just my opinion.

      Tbf, so far the only design that beat the gimle while not being built specifically to counter it would be the cataclysm

      Frag is a counter against the gimle, and that was why I picked frag guns, but the lasers getting stuffed by the volume of shells was completely unintentional. The main reason the broadsword has the amount of guns it has was because I thought it would be cool to have as many guns as I could possibly fit onto a craft (it originally had more but I cut them for budget). As for the evasion and the broadsword being on hydrofoils and azipods, that's just what all my ships are designed like. And as for the decoration side of things, its just because I suck at decos (700 hours and no ships painted), and also having a significant superstructure would block the difs on either side from helping the other side.

      Oh also, while it might be a counter against the gimle it still performs well against other 2.2m ships (except the drakenslang because it can get out of effective range of the 300m/s frag shells quite easily)

      Plasma is pretty good as a high alpha damage weapon, but against something hollow/ high volume like the gimle it suffers a bit

      People often use like stabilizer 50 charges/shot but you can rapid fire 20s and it will kill anything.
      A 800k turret will shred anything and they're so easy to armor up.
      It can AI dead an Empyrean in 10 seconds. (Gray talons thrustercraft 1.7Mil).

      I made a pretty nice turret on the Sherrif airship in construction, but man plasma is expensive!
