    @BBallbreakdown our highschool rivals predominantly ran the loop offense to help create lanes for their star lefty guard. we used to beat it by forcing everything to the sideline and the baseline, essentially pushing the ball handler away from where they're trying to get to and right into a waiting help defender (our weakside guards would help with two feet outside the paint against these kinds of offenses). at times we would even throw a double team at every down pass (like to the corners) which was a bit feckless but severely broke apart their flow and often caused turnovers. my coach was prideful and hated going zone on anyone, so he drilled into us proper man to man team defense and how to/not to rotate and help.

    Watched a high school girls game last night and they ran this offense to perfection. Elbow jumpers, duck-ins to the big, drives to the basketball, penetrate and kickout for three’s. They even made the baseline pass to the corners for threes. I was very impressed.

  • @SlickPickz

    There’s a lot of spacing issues with this version of DDM at the high school level. The traditional setting of DDM you get a pass and cut up top to open up a driving gap. The kick-up out of the corner off the elbow shouldnt be the goal of an offense, getting to the drag zone should be (below the elbow, near the block). The spacing might not be as much of an issue at a higher level because of the threat of a shooter one pass away, but this is speaking specifically for high school. I know this is an old video just wanted to touch on it if anyone is doing research on DDM, Wahlberg’s video gives great detail for highschool teams.

    We ran the dribble drive. Its a team heavy motion so point spread was pretty even. We had like 3 players average the same amount of points. Militant. No stars more like a unit of unknowns.

      Exactly! But not a dribble hand off, it's a drive and kick. I was just on court with Vance Walberg himself and will release that footage soon.

  • @steverliu
    @steverliu Před 8 lety

    very interesting...I was coached in high school to NEVER move towards the space behind the ball handler to PREVENT the ball handler from being double teamed, but in this case, you actually want the ball handler to be double teamed for an open 3. then again that was in 1997 so things have changed. I like how when the euro cut does happen, the ball handler is not all the way out on the wing. it makes it easier to do this with 2 guards instead of 3, maybe that's the key difference as well.

    • @bballbreakdown
      @bballbreakdown  Před 8 lety

      I think u can change positions without missing a beat. And sliding in behind penetration is definitely a European thing that has seeped into the American game. It's actually the best way Grinnell got 3 point shots in their crazy System.

  • @peskelj
    @peskelj Před 8 lety +1

    Coach, was Dwayne Wade traveling on that drive everybody talks about last night?

  • @mcfuckinanotheraccount808

    Coach, I've been reading about mixing Motion Concepts with Dribble Drive Motion Concepts, the Hybrid Motion Offense.
    I think I prefer it, because the Wing or Corner fill from a Slot drive to basket just bothers me spacing wise, it makes the pass to the wing harder to make at lower levels, but of course, we can teach 2 foot stops and jumpstops and pivoting to find a better pass. And it also kind of makes the spacing weird to me. But if we CAN teach that wing player to slide to the corner as the drive goes deep, and then read for a backdoor baseline, stay open for the 3, or do the fill, I think that way we have great reads for that wing corner player

    • @mcfuckinanotheraccount808
      @mcfuckinanotheraccount808 Před 2 lety

      I'd love to hear your thoughts, what I mean is, doesn't the simple Drible Drive Concept limit your decisions and reads and make spacing weird?
      Both offenses can go stagnant, if you mix them together, bingo!

  • @152France
    @152France Před 8 lety +2

    If you don't help one pass away, it never works because the secondary option is a drive without movement and it's hard to back door cut when someone is at the elbow and you want to go middle initially

    • @bballbreakdown
      @bballbreakdown  Před 8 lety +1

      Yes, a lot is predicated on getting that help, OR the ball handler beating his man into the lane.

    essentially the extent of the Raptors offense this season. simple, effective, but predictable and energy consuming. works great against lesser regular season teams where you can bully your way to +100 points while playing above average defense, but falls apart in the playoffs where opposing coaches have plenty of time to scout and counter all of the action.

    Second penetration guy needs to get to the nail (split line), not the elbow. This creates more space for opposite guard to penetrate on kick back - or as you call it, 'euro'. Also guards need to space higher initially.

    • @kyrie4451
      @kyrie4451 Před 7 lety +1

      OGunc it can tweaked by adding some off ball screen for the catch at the wing. If after 16 seconds of drible drive, there still isn't an open shot, you can resolve to pick and roll, post, or iso depending on what kind of players you have.

    • @banana403
      @banana403 Před 4 lety

      Two things happen there:
      1) If the WS-guard D helps, you run the Euro cut. The driving guard acts like a DHO screen, and the receiver gets a ton of space to either shoot or drive.
      2) Or the WS-guard can backdoor. Because the post has circled to the block (if the ball started on the R, the post starts on the Lblock but moves to the Rblock on the first drive-pass action), a backdoor cut opens up a Draymond-style cut and kick-out/lob read.
      Check out the Greg Kampe and the Coach Cal videos on YT if you want to watch this get taught. I had a hard time understanding the ideas of DDM until I saw them last year and it was installed with ease.
