I'd like to see a what happened to vision shirt
Instead of fancy rifts or dimensions, it might just be a simple 1960's space mission where they travel near lightspeed. (Like in Planet of the Apes) When you travel near lightspeed the rest of the world experiences time faster than you do. To them it could be a couple years, but to the world it might be 60 years later when they arrive back home. Planet of the Apes was made in 1968 and having them experience a similar time dilation would be a solid nod to the Heston franchise. So it would be a "go somewhere else and we'll pretend you died" situation.

First fantastic four comic came out in 1961.
So this takes place like two years into their career in 1963
Assuming they stick with the them becoming heroes in 1961 thing for the movie, they could have become heroes in the 50's or in '63 itself or even possibly later. Comics 616 and the MCU are different Universes, so the rules and happenings and such in one may not apply to the other.

This is the same date that’s shown in the poster if you look at the magazine from ‘63 then it being Valentine’s Day. In real life the syncom 1 was launched and malfunctions. The Fantastic Four is known for going to space, Ben is in a spacesuit. So the story is going to be about what happened to the satellite, what galactic force interfered with it, and as part what happened to the F4.

I thought it would be them discovering and entering the Negative Zone, then coming out and years had gone by but for them it had been like an hour.
That astronaut uniform is late sixties. In 1963 they were still using the silver Mercury suits. They switched to white Gemini suits in 1964. The suit shown is Apollo era.

That and if LBJ was in office it wouldnt couldnt have been that long after since JFK's death which was in November. So this could be early '64. Or realistically whenever that Life magazine was published

There was a very shortlived podcast called tales from the d-list that suggested the FF could be introduced alongside Spot by having them stuck in the spotted dimension until Spot gets his powers.
This cast is so talented and it’ll be so exciting to see them play Marvel’s First Family!!!! 💫💫💫💫

Galactus can be a celestial who defected and who now eats planets with celestial seeds in them. The FF stopped him from consuming earth but they started drifting in space-time.

My only real argument against the attention to detail aspect of the picture is that in 1963, there was a very distinct design to the space suits (project mercury) which can be easily googled and doesn’t match Ben’s photo (his looks like the late 60’s/early 70’s design (Apollo missions). This is admittedly a very small detail, but inaccuracies matter when we are talking about how conclusions are drawn from such little information.
Agreed. You could also argue that it looks similar to the Gemini suits. But those crewed missions were in 1965 and 1966.

As for the space suit being of a later design, I assume that the F4 are just always on the cutting edge and hence have the next generation of suits. Also I must say I’m truly impressed to see the intelligent observations and people with knowledge of the moon missions.

I agree. For future films Marvel needs to be more careful from now on when it comes to the timeline. Timeline as in historical accuracy and how the Marvel Universe fits into it.

Just wanna point out the magazine came out in December and the banner is for Valentine's Day the following year...meaning it's actually 1964 and not 63. They are the Fantastic FOUR afterall.

@@pinaka5461 Well if you think about it ENOUGH you'll realize it can't actually be 1963 anyway since segregation in America had not ended and would've also likely impacted Reed due to him being Hispanic. There's no way Marvel would confront that and they usually do stay historically accurate so it's likely they'd avoid it by just setting it after July 1964.
They could have used Hank Pym's "Pym Particles" to explore the Microverse and got stuck there with the Micronauts and eventually found a way home, but time had passed faster outside of the Microverse and they ended up coming home to our modern time. Would explain them not being around and Reed not being there to help in the fight against Thanos. Also helps connect their movie to the other movies by way of Hank Pym.
Something people aren’t talking about… assuming this movie takes place in our 616 universe, Reed Richards and the gang would have been alive in the 40s. Meaning they know of Captn America from WW2. And depending on what age they decide to make the cast, they would have grown up seeing the first super hero.
It’s now my head canon that the kid wielding the trash can lid painted to be Captn’s shield is actually a young Reed Richards.
They might even have gone to the Stark Expo in '43 (given how intelligent the Richards family are, it feels like an event they would attend. And apparently Nathaniel and Howard have a history in the comics) 🙂
I wouldn't necessarily say the trash can lid kid is Reed. Yes, they could change the age of the characters compared to the actors, though they generally don't, or at least not that drastically, so if F4 is set in the 60's Reed would be around 25-30 in the 40's since Pedro is nearly 50. That said, that trash can lid kid could be an about 10 year old Johnny Storm since Joseph Quinn is 30.

In the comics, Johnny acknowledges being a huge fan of the Torch--- and credits his unconscious admiration of him for the reason the cosmic rays transformed Johnny the way they did.
I would say not only did Reed attend (Sue would not have been his wife then) the Expo --- they would have had an exhibit. Maybe 'unstable molecules' fabric (designed by Reed, and able to adapt to whatever power the person wearing it had --- every Marvel comics hero almost had a walking familiarity with costumes made of UMs.).

Your teams ideas of a rift or dimensional issue seem fun and exciting. I think it would be possible to have the fantastic four stuck in space “frozen in time” because the thing that gave them their powers knocked them into some kind of suspension in space. This could also set up the idea of the phoenix force giving these abilities to them. But that’s just a fun concept. Keep up the great work!!!

Something about the suits in that promo pic gives me vibes of the Wrath of Khan uniforms, specifically the ribbed collars. Reed even has pips if I'm not mistaken.

The line of Strange is a clear reference to the band Fantastic Four which charted in the 60.
Could the fantastic 4 be coming because Deadpool goes back in time with the tva to fix things and the fantastic 4 died in the 60s and deadpool can bring them back as the tva need them or the current universe needs them to face galatico
Anyone that didn’t immediately think Joseph Quinn was a great idea for Johnny is bananas. I don’t know how accurate to the comic book version he is, but you could tell he’s going to be a charming character in the mix.

Agreed the FF will be a team “out of time” and seems to me their “method” of original disappearance will likely relate back to the movie’s ending crisis or battle somehow.
Unless they have increased longevity they don’t appear aged (like they were trapped and spent decades) rather they were in suspension or jumped forward in time as others have suggested.
I think there’s more hidden in the artwork we will learn in time.

If the magazine came out in December 1963, and they have a Valentine’s Day banner- it means possibly 1964.

I Cap 1A, we see the first Human Torch's outfit on display at the Stark Expo.
Also in Petro Pascal’s official instagram he posted the photo but put the Beatles song “All you need is love” which came out in 1967

I also said that Dr Strange MoM line was not a throwaway and that movie had EE that would play out over the next several years
I would assume that the Fantastic Four we're meeting in this movie could come from another universe. However, based on the clues in the photo I think they could've existed in the main MCU timeline from the 60s and maybe displaced from time through the Quantum Realm. They may have went through the same scenario like Scott Lang did in Endgame.

I've been saying this since Disney bought Fox. FF could have started in the 60s, going on a deep space mission through worm holes, got their powers, etc. We all know worm hole logic by now with movies like Event Horizon and Interstellar (Jane even used the same "folded paper stabbed with a pen" explanation in Love and Thunder). So they come back to Earth decades later, having only aged a few days or weeks. Easy explanation of why they've been absent this whole time while also giving us a 60s origin.
That’s the only way I see them aging them properly other than that it’s a no go. Anytime u can throw time travel and age in a movie it will work. Ppl love seeing ageless time travelers.

This seems like it’s going to be such a fun movie! Like a sort of retro sci-fi movie. I trust Marvel in general but especially with this movie because they know how much is riding on it. Especially considering none of the live action Fantastic Four movies are highly regarded so this is realistically their last chance to get it right. I also know this along with the mutants are Kevin’s baby so they’re going to go all out to ensure it’s everything it’s supposed to be.

Maybe the “stars” on the left and right of the FF are suggesting the appearance of Nova and the Nova Corp. Maybe Herbie is destroyed by FF and friends after finding out that the Worldmind was inside it and went insane. Herbie’s destruction/creation of Nova(Richard Rider)
I hope they don't do that. If they pull anything from the comics for Nova it has to be when Rhomann Dey gives Rich Ryder the helmet before dying. Any other way for him to become Nova would be an insult.

I think they should have a scene in FF after they time travel to the present where Doctor Strange cameos and says to Pedro Pascal's Reed Richards "I thought you were taller" as a nod to John Krasinki's Reed Richards since he is 6'3" and Pedro Pascal is 5'11"

The problem with that plot is that it’s exactly what happened to Janet Pym (btw I can’t believe you didn’t mention that since you did mention Hank Pym a few times). Getting lost in another realm while saving people and emerging decades later into the modern world (which also actually happened to Captain America. Which means they’ll be doing that trope for a THIRD time. )
