It's her fault he feels like that and it's also down to her to put a stop to it. But on the topic of family, it's starting to feel like Patrick has a lot of faults too. He's incapable of saying "no" and it's starting to get on Thais' nerves.

dude i thought the same. i lived in mexico last 3 years, and it made me embarassed to see how far she's gotten with eng compared to my spanish. this typically happens when the partner can't speak the language, but its even more impressive she learned english when he also speaks some portugese. she really made an effort you can get by on a lot less, if youre lazy lmao like me
Yes! My mom has been here in the USA ( also from Brazil) for about (off and on) 30 years and her English is still not as good as Thais’s English! She has been working hard for sure !

Thais needs to put her foot down when it comes to her dad. She made her choices. She's an adult. There is no reason to tiptoe around waiting for daddy's approval. If he wants to be in his granddaughter's life, he'll gtfover it. 🙄
It might be a traditionalist, parental hiarchy culture that her father subscribes to. Usually in said cultures, the parents get the final say in what their adult son/daughter can or cannot do, and to decide to make one's own individual decision, instead is considered "selfish" and "disrespectful to the family." It's a very backwards system.

I agree. She was an adult that didn’t live with him while she was there so he has nerve. The life she has now & the love of her husband & a beautiful baby he should be thankful for instead of insulting. If I was Patrick I would not take this like he has & after I spoke to him if he continued his attitude I would be done. I would tell Thias if she wants to speak to him fine but I would make no effort to include him in his granddaughter’s life. When she gets a bit older what will she think of a grandfather disrespecting her father this way for actual no reason other than he is American & Thais moved here with him.

Having visited Brazil myself and seen first hand the poverty and lack of basic security, the father should be happy Thais is building a life with a decent guy in a safer country. Say what you will about the USA, but more people immigrate to the USA every year than to Brazil. Also, far more Brazilians want to immigrate to the USA than Americans want to immigrate to Brazil. Those tent cities in LA are nothing compared to the poverty you can see in Brazil.

It's hard to understand exactly what her father said, but it sounds a lot like "bacana" or "safado" which isn't a big deal. Also, here in Brazil, the insult "bastard" is rarely used; I personally have never witnessed it being used.

He said Bacana ('cool/nice' but it can be in ironic way meaning disapproval like Damm - but for the context, his Bacana sounded more defeated than ironic). Even if it would be an insult, it would be more likely said Sacana (fucker) that the sound can be mistaken by Bacana... BUT not Little Bastard. TLC, address the offences properly! And Sacana can be a cheater or a person that easily does shit that hits other people, it can even be meaning 'entitled' (like the part he is sooo entitled to not STOP on STOP signs, or the situation with his dad coming over when she refused her own dad, he Is a sacana) .

But years and years ago, some greatgrandpa can use it still to exactly mention a person that is a kid out of a marriage and more likely in certain regions than others. He will have lots of physical problems because of it. Typically in his early 50's maybe before. I know someone that gets high liver counts. This started in his mid 20's. He did steriods for 4 yrs. You only have 1 liver. They also cause heart problems. Heart valve issues.

As a Brazilian girl myself, many girls in Brazil are still looked at as "daddy's little girl" by their fathers, and the family hierarchy and respect is extremely important, even if there's some disrespect on the elders part. It's unfair tbh..Thais should've told Patrick way beforehand.
