Finding people who grade black skin as a tutorial is SO RARE! Thank you for doing this and please provide more examples of darker skin tones!
Of course đȘđœ
I hear you.
Qazi I believe Steve Yedlin said they only used the ALEXA 65 for one particular shot/scene. They shot the majority of the film with the ALEXA Mini.
Steve seems like he really wants to end the film vs digital debate. He said something in the past like "The camera doesn't make the look" "It's all done in the colour pipeline" + there is a load more information on his website for those interested.
đŻ he just might
had to switch to my other account so l could like twice...This dude is amazing and he even replies emails
đđđ let's go
the replies i get from him are "watch the videos"
This movie had the most unseen look my eyes had experienced, colors are beyond perfect in every scene. Almost like a CG. Thanks for the insights Qazi!
Couldn't agree more. Too beautiful.
OMG MAN..!!! DUDE... you are the awesome colorist teacher on the YT. Well the best on the internet. I wanted this specific look, I'm not a colorist, I'm a one man crew doing most of it myself been trying to achieve this look from a long time. Thank you so much..
I gotchu đȘđœ
Appreciate the time you took in creating this tutorial. I'm really thankful can't wait for more notification. Big-ups......!
You know it
I have watched a couple of your videos already, but the intro on this one made me subscribe! great tutorial!
Let's go!!
Amazing tutorial! Love the looks from your videos and I havenât seen anyone break it down like this before
Thank you
Itâs like i m going to filmschool of my choice . Wait, its more than that love ya sir
đđȘđœ
Qazi this is stinking amazing! Thank you for this, as always you are an incredible teacher! My color grading has exponentially grown and become more professional. I would love to see a TRANSFORMERS grade! I may be the only one but I love the look of that franchise! Thank you for your time and effort you put into these videos!
Thank you, brother. That makes the two of us. Stefan is a co-founder of company 3 and is the colorist on that franchise and the look is phenomenal. Haters gonna hate.
I'm going back to all of your videos and this is also very inspiring. I noticed that you graded it after the lut. Lots of people say that one shouldn't, do you go through this topic anywhere?
The movie was actually shot on Alexa Mini, just some very special shots were suitable for Alexa 65
Yeah, this statement is pretty much true. I was in a talk at the ASC clubhouse where he said they used the Mini for a majority cause of the fast paced nature of the production. A few hand full of the 65 and then one shot on film.
excellent video, this my be your best "look" video... as uasual excellent explanation on each of your steps..... Thank you !!!
You know it đđđœ
As always, great tutorial. A question...everything you did with colors you did after the lut. I always had the impression that whatever you do with exposure and colors you do in the log space before the lut. For example, you have different scenes, you gonna do different tweaks with colors but you want everything to pass through that film print lut. If you do it after the lut you're messing with the film print signature. So the lut node is gonna be your global look node basically. I know, nothing is written in stone and you can do whatever you want but what's your opinion on this? Thanks
I love you! Youre the best! Thank you for your tutorials!
Love you back đđȘđœ
Keep killing it bro!
đȘđœ
Love your tutorials
Thanks
Found you and your channel recently and this is a great video! I'd love to follow along with these videos... can you provide the sample clip you're working with? I think it would be super helpful. Thanks!
Yedlin is an absolute savage with his color and lighting. Crushed this, brother!
Couldn't agree more and thank you, brother. Love you back. đ
Bro you are amazing, the kind of information you provide is top notch!
you help someone someone to grow up, You'll go even higher.
The channel has amazing content, practice and practice you"ll get it. right.
lots of love man.
Thank yoiu, brother. Much love.
Question: why do you add all the nodes directly onto the clip as opposed to using an adjustment layer on top of the clip so you can just add on top of whatever clip you want?
Hey Qazi, a ton of subtle technique and nuance on the back end of a pretty dramatic change to the raw footage. It would be easy to believe that the LUT did all the heavy lifting but a tweak here, tweak there and the image came a LONG way. Lots of value in this one grade - thanks for sharing, mate!
Couldnt agree more. Nothing wrong were usinf LUTs see were is the right way to go about returning. Knowing the ins snd the outs. đđȘđœ
quick note knives out was actually shot on alexa mini (yedlin corrected on twitter) with the exception of one shot apparently. also have you looked into steve yedlinâs display prep video on his website? lots of great info about his film emulation process. also he used a custom distortion algorithm to get a similar feel to anamorphic but controllable in post, shooting 17% overscan to accommodate it. steve is quite the inspiration for film work! great video. :)
Just bought a pocket 6k and getting into color grading and you are a god send my brother
Let's go!!! đȘđœ
Thanks for making these for us.
You got it đđȘđœ
You are a creative person đč
Thank you
Thank you so much
I met the DIT for knives out actually.
Majority was shot on Alexa Mini, few wide parts on Alexa 65, and 1 shot was Kodak 5219 (it was on a restored Panavision camera). I think it was one of the interview cutaways.
I think it has to be the two repeated yet different shots of the birthday cake with the candles since it's supposed to evoke memories
Nice work, as always :)
đđȘđœ
where do you take your referenze Images from when you can't find the Movie on Shotdeck
I need help in the color of the shots. I am in the education field. I photographed a small number of shots with the Black Magic Pocket Camera Cinema 4K.
I've learned a lot by your tutorials, wouldn't it be better if you make tutorials on which look and why to choose that specific look for a particular mood and what it means for a story instead of copying a look from another movie.
Love your tutorials.
That's where you have to use your own brain and apply it to what it is you're working on.
I was looking for a way to get more deep rich colours đ„đ„đ
please give link download footage for practice this tutorial
There are not other on youtube who teach colorgrading like you do Qazi..
đđȘđœ
Awesome, It's frickin WAQ job, man!
You know it đȘđœ
@@theqazman Keep it up, brah! đœïž
Qazi, I would personally apply some of that negative midtone detail to the "hi" node (similar to what you showed on a previous video) to smooth out that specular highlight on the skin, what do you think?
Nope. Rookie mistake. It should be handle in makeup but not necessary to engineer in color. Definitely not necessary. I have seen way too many beginners putting energy where it doesn't matter.
Hi. You use mac pro for work? not pc?
Hey Qazi! amazing look! why did you use layer mixer this time instead of parallel nodes for the skin/background nodes? cheers!
To create septation
Super nice and interesting tutorial. You have won a new subscriber :-)
I wonder that the the Resovle-Kodak LUT works so well with this Panasonic V-LogL shot without any corrections......
Thank you and it really does.
Nice đ another #killer no #filler đ
đđȘđœ
would be super nice if you could share a ungraded still frames for each video
Can you share the footages video ?
Can i get some footage to edit?
Please waqas give us a link to download every sample photo
Great
Thank you for putting these out. If it is a BM camera how come you did not use BM lut to correct then apply film lut?
You're wlecome. Gh5
Hi Qazi, I really like all your videos, and watched most of them. Today I'm struggling with the color profile again! some colorists told me that, you should just use default iMac profile which is display p3, and check the "use Mac color profile for viewers" in resolve, but some others told me using HD709-A (unfortunately this option disappeared after MacOS updated). I don't have any monitor right now, and really don't like the color shift when I airdrop my video to a normal rec709 TV, I can't imagine what will it looks like on android phones. really struggling for me, could you please help me on this?
Yes I would love a video made by him about this, because it drives me nuts too
Hi mate, great tutorial! When using the qualifying tool for the skin tones, is there a process possible for parenting the shape layer to the face of a person for when they're moving? Say when you are doing a Steadicam shot that varies in focal length. Definitely a big question, apologies aha. Thank you.
Sure you can roto a window to follow the face
@@theqazman Cheers mate, will look into it
Hi Qazi, new to the channel and absolutely love it, have really struggled to find someone who really dives in to the theoretical and technical aspects of colour grading, like you, rather than just giving a very basic âhow-toâ, so thank you! Would you consider doing a breakdown of the Haunting of Hill House look? I know itâs a love it or hate it look but itâs so unique and intensely stylised, Iâd love to see your take on it.
Over of my fav shows and looks. Will do. đđœđȘđœ
Waqas Qazi Awesome! Canât wait! đ
Lots of love from Indian đđđđ
đȘđœ
I have fallen for Vinci and the credit goes to brother Qazi
Let's go! đ
Great tutorial once again Qazi! I would love if you would do a tutorial on the movie "Scarface." I recently watched it and couldn't believe the creamy saturated nonstingee colorful perfect image in this film. It's like everything pops but not in an oversaturated way. I just can't figure out how they did it. Would be so awesome Qazi! Thank you!!
Great film
Black magic pocket cinema camera is used...
Out of curiosity is there a student discount option? I am currently going to film school and the teachers are not covering how to color grade.
DM me on Instagram
here we don't need cst?
Noise on the camera suggests a Sony A7 series cam?
Nope đ
Looks amazing as usual. To be fair, the GH5 was not a $1000 camera on launch. I love the GH5 though! It's such an underrated camera and I wish I didn't sell mine. I sold it for $850....
I know but I said how much it cost now
Duuuuudee! Thanks for the tutorial! Surprised to see you đ But have you changed the colour of the shirt? it was yellow !
I have a million of these
Cool

Hi, its realy amassing . your grading Me as a gh5 user I should learn something about colour grading from you today onwards
i am one of your follower .Thank you my dear friend..
You're welcome
Hi Qazi I need one valuable suggestions from you .I started working with DaVinci now my system configuration is this ( Processor 2.5 GHz Intel Core i7 16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3 NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M 2048 MB Intel Iris Pro 1536 MB )I want to edit the video in 4K timeline.with this system if I upgrade it is possible to edit 4K timeline..? After watching your video I am very much crazy about DaVinci .i am one of the subscriber and your follower ..Thank you..
That light is coming across the lens washing it out a bit. That's why you can't get the contrast exactly.
I understand why and that's why I didn't sweat it
Hi you have inspired me to learn davinci resolve I have installed the free version but anytime I try to import footage davinci resolve closes itself without any notification please can you help me đąđąđąđ€Č
If you have a nvidia graphic card try to change the driver in the GeForce experience software from video game driver to "Studio Driver". It worked for me, I hope it will for you as well !
Please can you show me the process
@@christiansagoe66 Open your geforce experience software, go to "Drivers" next to "Home". Under your pseudo there is "check existing updates" or something like that and next to it on the right there are three verticale points. It's where you can choose between "game ready" driver and "Studio Driver" :D
You watched it 2 days ago!!! NO NO NO!! Should've watched way before it was Awesome!'
Btw great tutorials like that's some quality content!
peace
đ I know. I never watch anything. Epic fail.
@@theqazman haha! xD
How to get the Look of The Spy from netflix would be cool. The colors on one side, and the vintage Look/Film Stock vibe on the other side.
Will add it to the list.

Just did. đ Check it
nice image quality, is it red epic
Nope đ
how can i practice pulling out darker skin tones? as an aspiring legendary music video director, this is something i'm obsessed with getting right. I absolutely hate when i see a very poor grading job with no attention to brown or black people. they always seem to make them look a sickly green or some other unnatural color.
I think it shot on Blackmagic 6k
Nope đ
My guess is Canon R5
be careful... you're turning to a beast

Camera is A7sII with slog

I'm going to guess Pocket Cinema Camera 4K

Doh! Continued watching and you revealed its the GH5....which I friggin own! Hahahaha!
