Looking forward to the rest of the video as the first point you made is very much on target. Your viewpoint, as a dad who’s a former pro, is so interesting to me because I think that a lot of the dads/moms who are vocal during games have unrealistic and/or misplaced expectations for their kids
I witnessed bad coaches in middle & high school. Forgetting they were kids.( Ws)!! Are more important the injuries and destroying young athletes confidence. And parents should saport and enjoy. We need more Matt's
My son is super hard when grading his performance; but I tell him on the ride home I'm dad we are going to focus on the positive/highlight plays. The moment isn't over until tomorrow, then you will hear from me as a coach's perspective.
Rule 1: don't get thrown out of the game *as a parent/spectator* by the ump and have to wait in your car. Bad look.
Rule 2: unless you are the coach, cheer your player on, That's it! No instructions from the stands.
Rule 3: you're allowed to have the "get the head out of your butt" conversation only in the car on the way home. They gotta play a sport thru 8th grade for exercise and gotta TRY to improve at whatever they play.
I am guilty of all of this and I am doing my best to change. I have improved atlest 75% from last season. Going for 200% improvent this season

Always appreciate your videos… I was wondering if there are any tips on intentionally fouling off pitches to protect the plate as a batter?
I gotta work on the car ride home. When you know your kid is capable of doing things and he isn’t doing them it can be really frustrating. But I guess your kid quitting would be worse! I view the game as an experience we share and bond over. Would hate for him to dread it.

I think that is truly the hardest part for parents who have played the game. They want to help so bad, that it causes more damage than the good. I'm guilty myself, but we have to let the kids play the game, not pay the consequence of a bad game.
12U son new to travel. Noticed coaches don’t fix things in games as much i.e. pitching “keep ur glove hand up.”
Very different than the days in Little League.
It all depends on the team and coach. I know a lot of coaches that can help make mechanical adjustments. I also think it can be tough for players to make big mechanical adjustments mid game.
Mid game is not the best time to make a ton of adjustments unless they are huge and egregious, or a safety concern. Otherwise, that's what practice is for. Work hard spending time on the skills (mechanics) in practice. Push them hard there, so they can just play and have fun in games.

One thing that I would like to ask is (and if you have covered this already within another video, please let me know) is the mental aspect of the game, how to deal with failure as a kid in baseball, etc.
Any advice you can give will be greatly received.

Thank you for this. I believe this is the reason talented players under perform. Too much parent involvement during games and practices and not trusting the coaches or program.
Or you can do like im doing right now watch matts videos while he doing his batting practice with his team

I mostly agree but I think the positive coaching movement has gone too far to the other side. Plenty of guys have made it far because their coach/dads pushed them. Kids gotta want it more and be able to handle it of course.
That being said, far more enjoyable to watch quietly from the bleachers than to be ‘coach dad’. Especially when things go well.
As far as the car ride, better off going home with mom.

I never said they can’t be pushed. They should be pushed. But constantly coaching from the stands or yelling about the game on the ride home to me isn’t pushing them
@@AntonelliBaseball I lost my sh..... on the way home when there is lack of effort. When they try and still suck gets the problem solving if they want to. Lack of effort flips the bit. This is only because we treated sports like classes. Maybe they didn't want to do it, but they gotta get exercise and they gotta work in a team and try to pull their weight. They actually got better at this as they got older.
@@AntonelliBaseball you are correct. Parents think they’re helping but ‘in game’ instruction is rarely helpful and ideally that’s what the coach is there for. Maybe parents fall into the trap of ‘when I do it, it’s different’ 🤦♂️
Matt I understand all this but it's hard when I dad can out play and out coach my daughters current coach's my work schedule does not allow me to. I know u may here this alot and have heard and seen this alot but I was one of those kids who grow up in a city that has no recognition and my grades would keep me in and out of school but I would have made it to the big leagues I'm 29 and can still reach mid 90s and in a adult league filled with college players and others etc I always hit .800 or more the league currently avg mph is around 80

I would say that I can also outplay and out coach my son’s coaches, but I still let them coach.
