  • No commentary, this video was originally released on my Ko-fi page and I’m now making it public on here if anyone’s interested. It’s basically a few clips of the flight back from Westray to Kirkwall on the Britten Norman Islander.
    Cheers,

The sound of those engines brought back many memories. I flew frequently in Islanders ( and Trislander ) in and out of bush strips when I lived and worked in the South Pacific islands of Vanuatu in the mid 1970s. The country was then known as the New Hebrides. Both aircraft coped with the primitive conditions admirably. Thanks for the memories.

Cheers Timothy, thanks for commenting. I would love to visit the South Pacific one day. Sounds like it’s pretty remote though!

@@LetsMakeaTrip I think it's fairly easy to get to the International Airport at Port Vila there being frequent scheduled flights from Sydney and Fiji. It's just very expensive from this part of the world. As far as I am aware there are only three airfields in the island group with asphalt runways; they are Bauerfield at Port Vila; Pekoa on the northern island of Espiritu Santo and Whitegrass on the southern island of Tanna. All the others, with a few additions, are much as they were when I was there. There are still some Islanders serving alongside DH Twin Otters in and out of bush strips so I guess that is still a bit of an adventure. I hope you get there some day.

I flew Logainair before as based at RAF Saxa Vord in Shetlands. It was a wonderful experience flying in a small plane, with wonderful views.

Pretty sure I was near there a few years ago, the one right in the far north of Shetland. Very remote!

I did, would definitely recommend. Getting there’s not cheap but there’s plenty to do. I’ll get back there one day I’m sure.

That's indeed a quick fly. Even quicker than the Malta-Catania flight that I've flown on a few times

The very friendly lady at Papay held us back as we said we were doing it for the experience. I think I got lucky on the way out too! 😊👍

Is it permitted to ask if the trips are for the sole purpose of the channel or a side effect of work? I’ve just started watching your channel and I’m hoping to travel more in the next couple of years.

Hi Kay, thanks for watching. It’s not a side-effect of work, I just love to travel so started filming my trips a couple of years back. I like a challenge too!
